Z-Library Blog: "Unprecedented seizure of our domains with books on rare languages" (z-library.se)

Today we are forced to share some sad news - yesterday many of our domains were seized again. We should highlight that the majority of the seized domains were not mirrors of the Z-Library website. Instead, they were separate sub-projects, containing only books in rare languages of the world, and their blocking is perplexing. For...

It’s more like if a landlord canceled the leases on a bunch of properties that a chain of privately owned libraries was renting.

Ways to pirate music as convenient as Spotify?

The reason I gave up on MP3’s and subscribed to Spotify was because Spotify was easy. I’ve been listening “Iron Maiden - Empire of the Clouds” song every day and like a week ago, its removed. This was the last straw for me. Right now I’m trying to find “Stremio” of the music world. Can someone assist?...

I agree. It’s a handy chat app but it’s not a replacement for actual forums and, God forbid, an actual support page for a project.

Trump would be sucking netanyahus dick right now and already have ordered a nuclear strike on Gaza.

Biden isn’t even in the same universe of terrible that Trump is.

ashok36 ,

Probably less tiring than the alternative method with pulling the strings. With the new setup you could build a little platform over the blower so you could sit on top of it and save yourself from extending your arm so much.

The biggest problem with this setup is making the blades as close as possible to the walls to reduce drag and eddys.

Reminds me of their, “Art historians remain confused as to why anyone would create new art when Megadeth’s Rust in Piece already exists.”

Shooting kills 2 and injures 18 victims in Florida street with hundreds of people nearby (apnews.com)

A fight between two groups turned deadly in Florida when a shooting in a Tampa street during Halloween festivities resulted in two deaths and 18 people hospitalized early Sunday morning, police said. One suspect is in custody and at least one more is being sought....

This is in Ybor City, a historic business district to the east of downtown Tampa. If you’re familiar with Broadway in Nashville, it’s kind of the same thing with a bunch of bars, restaurants, music venues, and similar all in a row on 7th Ave. Ybor cycles every few years between relatively safe and out of control depending mostly on how much police presence there is. Usually it takes three or four violent events before the police crack down but since this is making national news I expect they’ll be doing it sooner than later. I don’t think there’s ever been so many people injured at once in Ybor.

For many years, we used to have a Halloween celebration called Guavaween where the city would fence off the entire strip and search everyone trying to get in. I wouldn’t be surprised if they bring that sort of security back next year.

ashok36 ,

Been in Tampa for 40 years. Lived in Ybor for a year in the late aughts. Spent most of my twenties there at least once or twice a week. My wife was in Ybor Friday night. Very glad she decided to go out on that day instead of last night. I only go once or twice a year now and several coworkers have recently told me it’s gotten bad. The TPD is going to crack down hard after this.

People have always gone to Ybor just to hang out but from what I understand there’s a ton of people now that just go and hang out in the parking lots and don’t even go in the bars. Is that because they’re all carrying? Who knows? But I don’t think the TPD is going to be tolerating that much any more.

that stupid subscription model that will make you pay without knowing what games you will get for your money.

You’re showing your ignorance here. They announce the monthly bundle at the beginning of the month and you have the entire month to ‘pause’ your membership for that month. If you pause you remain a subscriber but you don’t pay for that month and you don’t get the games for that month.

I can’t believe this was upvoted.

ashok36 ,

You can literally set the split between Warner Bros, the charity, and Humble Bundle to whatever you want.

You can absolutely buy the $15 tier, get all the games, send $0 to WB, $12.75 to charity, and $2.25 to Humble (the minimum to cover processing and costs I guess).

WB probably gets to write off the money as donations to charity but forcing WB to give money to charity, regardless of tax implications, sounds like a win-win to me.

For a drummer, Chris does talk a lot. I think that’s probably fine though. They all seemed to be having a good time. Also, I think Tina’s bass playing is always overlooked when they talk about how she joined the band. The woman can groove.

ashok36 ,

When you’re advanced enough to let go of concepts like having a soul, the idea of having your being destroyed and remade elsewhere becomes a lot let problematic. What’s the difference between being anesthetized and revived VS transported?

Shit, for all we know the universe just started five minutes ago and all of history is just a collective delusion. Just go with the flow and stop worrying about existential problems. One day you’ll die forever and that’s OK.

ashok36 ,

It’ll never happen. Israel will never allow the possibility for a non-Jewish majority to coalesce and take over the government.

ashok36 ,

It’s a message.

“Cooperate in nailing Trump to the wall and look at what a sweetheart deal I can give you. Don’t wait too long though, or someone else might get the deal before you do…”

I was actually kind of worried about Powell and Chesebro getting deals because Willis had a really good reason to avoid their trial happening. It seemed to me that she was getting them off the table to focus on the larger trial in the spring. Having Ellis flip changes that analysis since she wouldn’t have been such a priority to get off the docket. I think Willis got something good from Powell and Chesebro and is going to each of the conspirators now and showing them how truly fucked they are.

Same boat here. I want a new car and tesla was top of my list. I wouldn’t be caught dead in one now while Musk is in charge.

Before cubicles, it was all open floors or offices. If you weren’t high up enough for an office, even a shared one, you were out in the cattle pen. Office work has always sucked for anyone not in management.

ashok36 ,

That negligence as a producer would be civil though, not criminal.

ashok36 ,

Once you’ve done it a hundred times, I bet you’d get lax. It’s human nature. That’s why we don’t leave it to actors and employee armorers specifically for this purpose.

ashok36 ,

As a measure to make sure people don’t operate bots, it’s fine in theory. The problem becomes that this will not stop Russian, Chinese, and even American state actors from running bot farms. It’ll just be an additional line item on the budget each year.

That would’ve been a single 3ghz cpu core. Now we have dozens in one chip. Also, the instruction sets and microcode has gotten way better since then as well.

ROCKSMITH 2014 LEAVING STORES - Ubisoft (www.ubisoft.com)

You may want to know that Ubisoft’s Rocksmith® 2014 Edition will be de-listed from Steam after October 23rd, 2023 which is one week from this post date. This is a game that makes learning to play the guitar like Guitar Hero/Rockband, which can score you or let you slowly practice a part with scrolling fret indicators....

ashok36 ,

The Rocksmith+ song selection is garbage. Don’t bother.

ashok36 ,

Dude rocksmith+ has zero songs from either jimi Hendrix or Chuck berry. Moving closer in time, no green day or sublime. Even closer, no Paramore or fall out boy. I don’t know who rocksmith+ is supposed to be for but… It’s not people that want to play guitar.

ashok36 ,

The ozzy ones aren’t even ozzy songs. They’re from an album of covers that ozzy did. Total clown show.

Not to mention, a majority of “songs” in their database are only chord charts which are barely useful for someone that actually wants to play a song on their instrument.

I think you mean brutalist architecture.

Enhance your calm: Demolition Man turns 30 | The film remains an under-appreciated gem of ‘90s comedy/action flicks (arstechnica.com)

Thirty years ago today, Demolition Man first hit theaters, pitting Sylvester Stallone against Wesley Snipes in a crime-free but killjoy future where even minor vices have been declared illegal. The passage of time hasn’t quite elevated this sci-fi action comedy to the legendary status of Die Hard or Lethal Weapon, but it’s...

I have no idea how many runs I started in BG3. Every few moments I report a bug. Every update the game seemingly gets worse. I have never...

I think the words have to reach some sort of threshold for popularity before inclusion in the dictionary. Before that, it’s just industry jargon. There’s probably thousands of graphic design terms that aren’t in the dictionary right now.

This is only my personal experience but…

I’ve never had a package stolen. Even when I lived in a sketchy apartment years ago. If it’s a high value item I either have it delivered to me at my work (this is a privileged position to have, I know) or get it delivered at an Amazon locker a mile or two down the road.

Would it be a pain in my ass if I lived in a high crime area, worked somewhere that didn’t accept my deliveries, and relied on public transport? Absolutely. But I’m guessing that’s not who the majority of Amazon’s customer base is.

ashok36 ,

Have you considered maybe that’s not a healthy way to consume media in the first place?

Just download Mr Roger’s and sesame street and let them watch them over and over. Kids will watch the same thing ten times in a row. I know, I’ve seen them do it.

ashok36 ,

For sci fi, Run Lola Run is a fun 90s era take on how small changes in starting conditions results in big changes for different timelines.

For comedy, I’ll always recommend Grandma’s Boy. It’s a stoner comedy that focuses on a game developer and has a strong cast. It’s from Adam Sandler’s studio so you’ll see a lot of familiar faces, but not Sandler.

For animated, try The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Great cast, Wes Anderson asthetic without being too twee, and a great script.

It looks weird but no worse than any other truck. Anyone that tells you an F150 is aesthetically pleasing is full of shit.

If your garage door opener has a wired button to activate it, you can make it ‘smart’ without the cloud pretty easily.

  1. Z-Wave controller - Costs around $100, works great as long as you have a Zwave hub of some sort
  2. Shelly 1 - Shelly have a cloud functionality but also can work completely locally via wifi and mqtt.
  3. Konnected - They just released a wifi garage door controller. I haven’t actually used this one yet but I have their security panel boards and they work great, no cloud required. They’re all based on the ESP32 chip so you can even flash them with open source firmware like ESPHome if you want.

Did you ever get your degree, Mr Poopybutthole?

ashok36 ,

I agree. Mos Def and Zooey Deschanel really didn’t pull their weight. Zaphod with only one head nearly the entire time was lame. The whole thing felt too “American” to me.

Bill Nighy was fantastic though.

This comic was made by someone that hasn’t been in primary school in 50 years (or more). It’s boomer bait.

The trial was extended over two years and the cop got off scott free.

This is exactly why Stadia failed. I honestly think if it was a service like Gamepass Ultimate where the games come with the sub, it would’ve been a success. Spending $60 on a game I can only play via Google’s service though? Fuck no. Never. Not in a million years.

ashok36 ,

Netflix has a reputation for killing TV shows after 2 or 3 seasons, before they can be wrapped up. So there’s a ton of content on Netflix which is ‘unfinished’ and so completely unattractive to anyone that might want to start watching it. Why would I ever bother starting to watch, for example, Santa Clarita Diet if I already know the show just ends with no pay off?

ashok36 ,

Orlando and Tampa are both fairly liberal cities. Miami has a big Cuban population which leans conservative, Jacksonville is basically southern Georgia. Tallahassee is a weird one because you’ve got a bunch of government workers and it’s a college town. I think DeSantis would like to fuck with Tallahassee but doesn’t want to shit where he eats.

ashok36 ,

This is true but tesla and others could compensate for this by spending more time and money training on those form factors, something humans can’t really do. It’s an opportunity for them to prove the superhuman capabilities of their systems.

ashok36 ,

I mean, yeah, duh. Just ask any of them to write a paragraph “in the style of INSERT AUTHOR”.

If it can, then it was trained on that author. I’m not sure how that’s a problem though.
