Social safety net programs are fine but unless they’re universal they’ll inevitably create benefit cliffs which punish people for making more money. They also cost money to administer. UBI is super cheap and easy to administer: if you’re a citizen you get a check or deposit every month. Simple. You could probably manage the entire operation with less than 1000 people.

Some people don’t want to be locked down to one place for long. When I was in my twenties I moved to a different town every year when my lease was up just to see if I would like it better somewhere else. Or I’d get a raise and be able to afford a better place the next year. For people that want relatively short term housing, renting is a far superior option.

If I took out a mortgage on a place and then sold it a year later, I’d have almost no equity since you pay almost all interest in the front part of the loan.

    We bought one last year for our three cats. It’s honestly the best money I’ve ever spent. I’ve probably saved $200+ in litter costs in the last year. I would recommend getting a set of stairs though. My cats refused to use it until I got some for them.

    Get one. My wife and I used to have friction about who’s turn it was to clean the multiple cat boxes. We would go out of town and come back to a house that smelled like dirt cat box. now I just empty the bin twice a week and add a scoop of fresh litter. Takes five minutes, tops. Doesn’t matter how long we’re gone, the smell is contained.

    You need to clean the dome every few months but that’s fairly easy too if you have a hose and a sprayer attachment. The worst part is just that it takes a long time to dry.

    You assume that the primary purpose of public schools is to educate children. It’s not. It’s free daycare so both parents can go to work and contribute to gdp while barely treading water even with two incomes.

    On test flights, having something go terribly wrong is expected. This is the second test flight of a brand new vehicle system which also happens to be the largest and most complicated vehicle ever made. They also have half a dozen more vehicles already made and waiting to fly, each with improvements learned in manufacturing the previous one. They are behind their original schedule, for sure, but this mission was a huge success for SpaceX considering all of the things that did work.

    Not really. If anything, starship will be the most environmentally friendly space vehicle when it’s done. It runs on methalox which can be produced from CO2 and water. As long as the energy source is renewable, it can be 100% carbon neutral as a fuel. Since they’re planning to refuel in Mars, which has no fossil fuels, developing the technology isn’t really a choice. They have to do it either way.
