That is basically what a seamount is, yes.

(My grammar sucks :( )

This almost seems like the middle point between Desmos’ scientific and graphing calculators.

TheOakTree ,

+1 for coffee machine cup ramen, a very useful technique that I implement often.

TheOakTree ,

I would argue No Man’s Sky started the trend of “release now fix later” but I suppose they are not a big AAA studio. I suppose CDPR wasn’t really considered as AAA until the release of Witcher 3.

TheOakTree ,

Thanks for providing a lot of insight to the conversation.

TheOakTree ,

Pepperoni pineapple pizza (PPP?) is underrated. Bonus points for mushroom and jalapeno. And maybe onion.

TheOakTree ,

I learned algebra around the same stage of my education. But to be fair, my parents were spending money to keep me learning accelerated math.

TheOakTree ,

The co-op sucks, but I’m pretty certain invasions don’t occur unless you summon somebody.

If you’re adamant about playing co-op without invasions, you have to mod the game, unfortunately.

Bacon, eggs, hashbrown, an english muffin, and a glass of milk… is what I would say if I were a teenager again. I’ll probably just have an english muffin, a cup of tea, and a fruit.

TheOakTree ,

I’m not particularly picky, any fruit will do!

TheOakTree ,

+1 for Ktown Mad Spicy.

However I must point out they are not rice cakes, but wheat cakes. Also, tteokbokki benefits a lot from having some cabbage and onion mixed into it… delicious!

TheOakTree ,

Bastion will make you feel like you’re reading a book. It’s one of my all-time favorites, by the developers now best known for Hades.

TheOakTree ,

A lot of birdwatching, maybe some music-making, and learning to cook very well.

Even if god exists religion can't possibly be the way to god

So I thought about this in the shower amd it makes sense to me, like praying and stuff never worked for most people I know, so a direkt link to god gotta be unlikely. That made me conclude that religion is probably fake, no matter if there’s a god or not. Also people speaking to the same god being given a different set of...

TheOakTree ,

Well of course God won’t answer a prayer that would negatively affect one of his true followers.

…I’m not God, so I have made peace with the fact I will never understand that.

Could you share what makes you so confident in the first quote, despite what you say in the second quote? How can you know God would not or has not answered any prayers that negatively affected a true follower, and how can one define whether God has negatively affected a true follower when one cannot intimately know God’s true intentions?

A PR disaster: Microsoft has lost trust with its users, and Windows Recall is the straw that broke the camel's back (www.windowscentral.com)

It’s a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...

TheOakTree ,

I love it when Apple pushes advertising that touts their focus on privacy… when in reality, they’re breaching user privacy in all the ways that every other company does.

Now imagine if we had taken 30-40% from billionaires every single year… hmm…

Spotify is raising the cost of Premium subscriptions, again (www.engadget.com)

Spotify is officially raising its Premium subscription rates in the US come July, following reports of the move in April. The platform is increasing its Individual plan from $11 to $12 monthly and its Duo plan from $15 to $17 monthly — the same jump as last year’s $1 and $2 price hikes, respectively. However, its Family plan...

Just to let you know, Tidal is not that great either.

Frequently having issues with downloaded albums, where I go into offline mode, pull up an album, and it says “can’t connect” despite being in offline mode and the album taking up storage space on my phone.

Also, the discovery and new releases sections aren’t very well made.

TheOakTree ,

I don’t really like Tidal, but this is why I have stuck with Tidal instead of switching back to Spotify. At least the artists get more money, and I get my higher bitrate. Now it seems that prices are getting even closer to parity, so that’s less of a reason to switch back.

I considered trying Qobuz or Deezer, but I’m too lazy to switch right now.

FiiO BTR5 + LDAC + IEMs have been working super well for me. I don’t really use wireless with Windows, but I’m considering payiny for A2DP regardless, as it worked very well and may come in handy eventually.

TheOakTree ,

Soundiiz. I used it to transfer my playlists one by one, for free.

TheOakTree ,

Ah yes, you know so many people that it somehow becomes equivalent to a healthy sample size of the entire human population. Got it.

TheOakTree ,

Not at all! I had fun typing out the comment while considering the implications of your comment! :P

Thanks for the good time.

I heard people got respiratory cancers specifically from being in the military and having been instructed to burn piles of trash without proper safety equipment.

And then they got discharged, fucked over sideways by the VA, and died. Welp.

TheOakTree ,

I believe they were making a joke about your use of the word “collage.”

Texas Supreme Court rejects challenge to state's abortion law over medical exceptions (apnews.com)

The Texas Supreme Court on Friday rejected a closely watched challenge to the state’s restrictive abortion ban, ruling against a group of women who had serious pregnancy complications and became the first in the U.S. to testify in court about being denied abortions since Roe v. Wade was overturned....

TheOakTree ,

99 years in prison is a joke. Doctors who are licensed to perform abortions are already at the very least more than a third of the way through their lives. What, are they going to live until 125? In prison?

This is my best attempt at a rewrite:

Get (vegan) hotdog buns, the sweeter the better. Spread mustard on the bun, and add your meat substitute. Make an avocado paste, adding some garlic and sea salt, and add that to the hotdog. Dice a peeled tomato and top it with coriander, then add it to the hotdog. Lastly, add ketchup and vegan mayonnaise to taste.

Make sure to tell your friends that you’re using meat substitute, so that they aren’t disappointed. In the photo, boiled carrots were used as meat substitute.

TheOakTree ,

Ah, I see, the texture of the sausage is quite different. I’ve previously had some luck replacing sausage with carrot by boiling carrots, seasoning with soy sauce and sugar, and then frying in a pan on medium-low heat.

I’m not a vegan/vegetatian but it’s quite decent.

TheOakTree ,

I’m not that young, but sometimes I see people here refer to their childhoods, and then I feel like a baby.

TheOakTree ,

Dear downvoters… I’m pretty sure the picture of a bald eagle in front of a US flag is a stand-in for “/s”.

TheOakTree ,

I think that current-gen console gamers are becoming increasingly aware of the reason why consoles can still be competitive: quantity, optimization, and upscaling. It becomes very apparent when every AAA game ships with two graphics modes, performance and quality, which are usually just changes in internal resolution/upscaling, LoD, texture budget, and lighting/RT.

Purely in the perspective of gaming performance per dollar, the current-gen consoles just barely beat out mid to upper-mid range PCs, but factoring in all the other uses of a PC pushes the comparison in PC’s favor.

TheOakTree ,

Also the “select the image below containing the example image above.”

Like… we already have computers that can recognize image repetitions.

The ugly truth behind ChatGPT: AI is guzzling resources at planet-eating rates (www.theguardian.com)

Despite its name, the infrastructure used by the “cloud” accounts for more global greenhouse emissions than commercial flights. In 2018, for instance, the 5bn YouTube hits for the viral song Despacito used the same amount of energy it would take to heat 40,000 US homes annually....

TheOakTree ,

Yeah, seriously. Did the person you were replying to think the energy that’s powering datacenters was all clean?

I checked on my phone, green is 10, yellow is 20, orange is 30, burnt orange is 40. I know that’s not a great measure but currently walking so if someone could screenshot the legend that would be coolio.

Interesting that a mycologist has 0 posts or comments regarding mushrooms/fungi prior to this post. Not that you have to, but rather that both of my mycologist friends are extremely enthusiastic about talking about it.

TheOakTree ,

Simply turn yourself into cheese and the bridge into pizza, and then the glue will work perfectly!

TheOakTree ,

This reminds me of the many stories I have heard of family gatherings; the women all prep food and cook while the men drink beers and watch sports or talk about their work. Men who tried to help their wives in the kitchen got weird looks, and women who didn’t feel comfortable playing the role of tradwife got scolded and shunned.

The misogyny is ingrained in those families, so much so that the women do not recognize it and instead take pride in their ‘role.’ It brings them comfort to exist in a space where their contribution is both defined and ‘valued,’ despite the ‘role’ existing as a result of misogyny. Attempts to change these expectations are seen as undermining the importance of their ‘roles’ and thus treated like affronts to their contributions.

And so the cycle continues…

TheOakTree ,

Honestly? I don’t even know if the wacky shit is necessary. The money pill and the 10% extra rest per sleep is just fine by me.

A woman fell to her death right before the graduation ceremony… and then this guy did sing-a-longs, crypto powerpoints, and ayahuasca speeches?

TheOakTree ,

I checked my throwaway/spam account. Apparently, I’m a high-wage tech employee at a large company, and I’m also a homeowner.

Damn, they think too highly of me.
