Why would this work when others get blocked? Is it a novel way to block YT ads that's not popular? Because I think YT isn't looking for specific extensions but looking for certain kinds of behavior.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Yes, this is how I do it. I also do this when reversing out of parking spaces. Because my car's reverse requires pushing down on the stick and is close to 1st, I've saved myself from driving into polls a few times.

You reminded me it's not on PS5. The PC my partner (who might be interested in this) plays on can't handle this. So...guess we won't play it. Oh well.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

It's also on Gamepass. You can play it instantly for a much lower cost to make sure it works. Then buy it if you still want later when it goes on sale.

No corporation should be able to own housing. Corporations aren't people.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

It's really a process of letting the subpoenaed know that they either tell the truth, lie and face perjury charges, or refuse and face contempt or court charges. The latter can seemingly land you in jail in perpetuity. Because fuck you, I guess?

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

That's mostly for police. Once you're in court and ordered to testify, the person talking about germany is mostly correct. You can't be forced to self-incriminate nor testify against a spouse. Otherwise yes. Generally 99% of courts won't bother even asking the defendant to testify because self-incrimination is practically guaranteed. Usually only if the defense calls on them, which is often a bad idea.

They are in a no-win situation. If they aren't making enough from subscriptions they can pull their games, but then they lose a massive amount of marketing and visibility. Much like Spotify and other streaming services, smaller artists just aren't making much from these. And with the way that contracts and subscription fatigue works, it's unlikely a competitor is going to be able to offer better deals while also attracting sufficient customers.

We need corporate death sentences. If a corporation is liable for a certain number of deaths (either over time or per incident), a certain amount of environmental damage, or violating laws like human trafficking, child labor, etc, then that corporate should have it's charter revoked. It shouldn't be allowed to keep existing and be forced to sell off assets.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

You can to an extent, but that's a losing venture. If pubic opinion goes against this tech hard enough, it'll keep some people from working in those industries. BUT if those products are profitable enough, they will simply pay more and that'll be moot.

Attacking the people who are earning a living isn't the answer. Most people take the job with the best combo of pay and work/life balance they can find in their area, or if they can afford to move. Not that many have the luxury to pick and choose based on their morality. And if compensation is high enough, it's a lot less likely.

It's far easier to try to prevent this tech from being used at all. I know political action is hard as hell but it's a lot easier than trying to ostracize an entire industry's worth of workers. It may feel easier to denigrate faceless individuals but that won't accomplish anything. Plenty of people work for weapons manufacturers and such.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

These people are not desperate for a job.

You're painting with a firehose. Some people are.

I’m an engineer, I quit Intel (after the startup I worked for was acquired) because Intel powers much of the MI complex. I quit Illumina when it became clear I was directly assisting with state level genetic experiments. As an engineer I could easily get a job elsewhere where I was not directly contributing to the downfall of my fellow humans.

You are what we call, privileged. Maybe you should...check it?

Exactly. He wants immunity from prosecution because that's what the FBI and/or DOJ decided the sitting president has for stone stupid reason. He knows he's fucked so he's trying to use the office to shield himself or probably pardon himself from the federal counts.

PlayStation Portal Doesn’t Have Bluetooth (gamingbolt.com)

Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation Portal, and as a cloud-exclusive Remote Play handheld device, it’s obviously got a few caveats attached. The fact that it can’t play native games – or any native media – is, of course, one of them, while it’s also been confirmed that even the cloud library of PlayStation...

Neato ,

Voting with your wallet doesn't work when there aren't any alternatives. If all the services are bilking people, then there's no choice but to stop using an entire type of service. There's a similar argument in American tipping culture: you can just vote with your wallet by not going out to eat.

But that's austerity measures and those have been shown definitively to NOT work. People won't give up most of life's pleasures and conveniences unless they have to. No one wants to deprive themselves of most of society's benefits. And they shouldn't have to. There should be laws regulating how companies charge and introduce fees and what they can charge for to prevent abuse and industry-wide abuse.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

I tried that. Got it installed with default settings and looked no different. Half my feed is suggested bullshit.

The American Way: invade and instill some new democracy?

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

This is stealing directly from artists

This is factually untrue. Artists have already been paid for their work and have possibly already been let go. (in many big gaming companies majority of the dev teams are let go on release, they operate on a hire-and-fire cycle) Artists pretty much never have a stake in the company or profit sharing. So there's no real way the # of copies sold has any bearing on their income.

At worst this is Bethesda having 150 copies stolen. Not even tiny devs would blink at that as they get copies stolen through places like G2A constantly. A huge company like Bethesda is worried more about early copies breaking embargo date that shows bad or buggy gameplay, negatively harming sales. Which, TBH, I am 100% not sympathetic towards. Review embargos any more restrictive than a week prior to launch is just trying to hide something.

“saying that he was “afraid that it’s also a fad”… the star said that he felt children were not mature enough to make major decisions about their gender identity"

You and Cooper both are setting fire to some pretty large strawmen. Standard transphobic tactic.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

It's this. Attacking gay people is no longer acceptable to enough people that conservatives can get away with it as a culture war tact. They've moved onto trans people which is more successful because there's a lot fewer trans people. We're seeing a LOT of bullshit getting flipped around and making people mad about things they didn't use to care about. The drag-hate is a good example. Tons of examples from history where drag is supported and now it's a major battleground? Bullshit. Just another way to find a convenient target for the right to hate.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Older people need to be told they are wrong and given reasons why. Then they can adapt their views and understand their world better. Those that refuse to adapt should be ostracized. There's no room for bigots. I've been doing this same thing when I was misunderstanding the world and I hope to be adapting until I die.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

pump the brakes a little when it comes to converting young children.

No one is trying to convert anyone into being trans, FFS.

It’s not being a bigot to be concerned over something that is generally new to our society.

Being trans isn't new. Just because we've stopped denigrating it openly and pretending it doesn't exist (it has always existed and been present, but usually in the closet) doesn't make it new.

But I only speak of the medical part of it.

Treatments for gender dysphoria have been around for literally decades.

I just honestly don’t know enough about the procedures and outcomes to say I can call someone a bigot for disagreeing.

I don't know the ins and outs of cancer treatments but I don't doubt doctors. FFS this is some A-grade transphobia. Really sealioning it all up in here.

It's a concession by Xbox at this point. Series S is too underpowered for split screen to work at the level of quality and stability Larian demands. Microsoft caved on the requirement because the alternative is it'd never release on Xbox at all.

Yeah. Copyright should exist for like, 20 years or so? Or no more than 10 years after the holder's death so dependent family can adapt. This 90-100 years is bullshit. It doesn't benefit the creators, it benefits the rights holders. Almost always a corporation profiting off the back of their workers.

Are Jeopardy writers union? If so the show can't be filmed without them. And generally if you're writing staff is on strike and the company hires scabs to fill that position, the rest of the crew (that can afford to) should strike in solidarity.

Claridryl has been demonstrated to increase the likelihood of abstinence from taking Claridryl for as long as one year compared to treatment with placebo.

Dark Souls 1. It's tutorial is decent for controls but it doesn't go nearly far enough. It doesn't explain rolling, weight and stats are only in level up screen, at least for prompting. So many things about the game you need to know that they leave to expensive trial and error.

I like The Backlogs' video on it. It's a flawed masterpiece.

Blockchain is an unchangeable (unless you own the only authority as we've seen, or you fork it) database that can only grow. It HAS to have multiple, identical instances or the owner can corrupt it. I'm not sure I see any benefit here except for potential security. But we've seen blockchains get into the terrabytes pretty quickly which isn't that feasible for large-scale operations.

Web3 isn't fixing shit. It's more techbros trying to steal more of the internet. How many NFTs you own, bro?

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

How do you ensure you are holding an accurate copy of the blockchain in that case? A single holder of a blockchain means the entire thing is insecure and the holder can change or steal whatever they want.

If a new player wants to host a copy of the etherum blockchain, how do they do that when it's stateless?
