Yes. Pre loading is a huge benefit for people with low bandwidth Internet. The usage of storage space is a weird complaint.

I'm confused why people are upset at early access. It can be done badly to sell a game that isn't finished for full price.

But Larian has always done early access this way: first act for testing. And it works great.

Lol, web2? When Facebook, reddit, amazon, twitter, etc pretty much killed the internet and consolidated most users under themselves. That was an unmitigated failure for the internet. It has directly led to the homogenization and garbage heaps we have now.

If you wield this and have 30 Strength, on a critical hit, the flail automatically casts the spell Atomic Fireball centered on the weapon.

Atomic Fireball.
10th-level evocation.
A bright flash explodes centered on a location with a radius of 500 feet and deals 100d8 fire damage, 100d8 radiant damage, and 100d8 thunder damage. Atomic Fireball deals 1d4 poison and 1d4 radiant damage each day to any creature that took initial damage for 30 days. Atomic Fireball also desecrates the ground, similar to the Hallow spell, causing any creature that enters to take 1d4 radiant damage each day and each creature must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw when they take damage. On a fail the target is poisoned for 1 year and takes 1d4 poison damage each day. This desecration effect lasts 10 years and cannot be dispelled save for a Wish.

It's not. It's 2 spheres. But when you look at a diaphanous sphere straight on you can see a brighter thing through it. You can see the pink parts only at the edges because there isn't a brighter mass behind it. And the edges cause more of the material to bunch up making it easier to see.

We've studied this chemical literally more than any other food additive and there's still nothing definitive. Also mice are not a good stand-in for humans. They are really only used for acute toxicity and such.

Neato ,

I don't much care what one study is saying. We've studied this chemical so much and we still have no conclusive proof it's harmful. At some point you really gotta focus money elsewhere.

some issues there with actual hydration since drinking pure water can kill you

This is a myth. You cannot be harmed from pure water, even distilled water. Lab-pure molecular water tastes like shit, anyways.

https://medicalsciences.stackexchange.com/questions/20837/can-drinking-ultra-pure-water-be-dangerous

ACUTE effects of drinking distilled water
The idea behind the myth that distilled water is harmful is that its low osmolality ("tonicity") could dangerously decrease the blood osmolality, which is normally: 285-295 mmol/kg. But distilled water has only slightly lower osmolality (0 mmol/kg) than tap water (~3 mmol/kg) (SGSM.ch, Table 2), so if drinking appropriate amounts of tap water does not significantly lower blood osmolality, distilled water also shouldn't.

The difference between tap and 100% pure water is so slight that it'll never cause hyponatremia. What WILL cause hyponatremia is drinking way, WAY too much water in a short span of time. That'll dilute your blood (hyponatremia) from ions that you need as your kidneys desperately try to get rid of all the water. This is entirely mitigated by eating foods around the same time that are not entirely deficient in minerals like salt (pretty much all foods).

What the fuck? First they call out Empress for actually being a man from Bulgaria. Then they drop a transphobic slur. Then they defend DRM and publishers.
I can understand supporting the developers and promoting buying software you enjoy when you can. But one of the big motivations for cracking software is software preservation and removing DRM that harms legit user experiences. So I say again, wtf?

Too bad for Texas that the constitution outlines that only the federal government has the right to deal with other countries. Both the Treaty Clause and Logan Act cover this base. Texas is wrong.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

and the state has refuted claims it violated federal law and international treaties when it set up the floating barriers without permission from the Biden administration or Mexico. (Article continues)

That's the clincher. States are 100% not allowed to treat internationally or make policies regarding other countries.

It's the soundtrack and some DSO2 cosmetics that everyone who bought the game during early access got for free. They're selling it to everyone else for $10.

Technically it's DLC, not MTX as MTX almost always entails individual purchases of items, usually in-game. It's more of a Collector's Edition than anything. That no one seems to care about, even the people who detest predatory practices.

Do you mean the Mask of the Shapeshifter? That allows, once per long rest, to change appearance to another random character. Effectively a Disguise Self cast.

There's also the dagger that's 4-7 weapon. But I replaced that before I even dealt with the goblin camp. There's so many magic items I wasn't worried about it.

The biggest coup is the hat and cape. They offer no bonuses but they look so fly I'm probably never taking them off.

Bing gives me the right answer: that list of countries.

What an amazing time we live in. Where Bing is better than Google. Though Bing does have AI, I think you have to scroll up (past the top) or directly search with it so far.

Neato ,

It doesn't matter? If you search for something and you get a blatantly wrong answer parroted from an AI text completion service, it's still a fail.

I got the wrong answer from Google just now and I've never heard of that joke before. So clearly it isn't just OP with polluted metrics.

What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?

This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

I think BG3 is riding on the D&D brand and marketing campaign

With how much they adapted 5e's rules for a video game (thankfully, 5e can be jank) I'd wager it's more to do with them riding on the Forgotten Realms setting. It's hugely popular (see: BG 1-2, dozens of books, most popular D&D setting through the last few editions) so it helps drive interest that there's a competent game that is both faithful to the lore and excels at storytelling.

For instance I really liked a tiny scrap of paper dealing with the Mines of Phandelver hundreds of years ago. That's a bit of flavor from the 5e Red Box. Tons of stuff like that calling back to adventures and books in the series.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Mmmm good point! I'm imagine some of the bigger 5e 3rd parties straight porting their magic items, spells and monsters into the game (monsters would be for custom campaign eventually).

From my understanding, Safe Harbor Provisions in the US ensure that as long as the owner responds to DMCA requests in the allotted time, they are not liable for what users post on their sites.

Seeing as the Fediverse is way under corporate radar so far, it seems to be prudent to just wait and see what happens. Then maybe enforce a "no direct links to piracy" if needed. I don't think you can sue a site for simply referring people to sites that do have illegal content, just hosting.

Neato ,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

I see the mods and admins are both not paying attention and are incompetent.

You know a few who aren't to you. You also know a few who know a bunch who are definitely abusive cops. Cops who allow abusive cops to continue policing are bastards.

Even beyond that, the very system that protects cops over the public and avoid scrutiny ensures no cop can actually be a good cop. Good cops get fired or have "accidents" on the job. That's why all cops are bastards: they can't not be in a system like that.

Light cannot accelerate. When a photon is created (emitted from electrons falling down a higher orbital, particle decay, etc.) it is traveling the speed of light. Photons cannot travel slower or faster than the speed of light. Every observer, regardless of their speed, sees light traveling the speed of light.
