Thank you for not just trying to redefine basic words as a post.

To your thought, Im not sure if it’d be funny so much as existentially tragic—however plastics are both chemically complex and (as far as I understand) fairly inert so not sure if a form of life could develop with them as their base, so hopefully no such cursed creature will ever walk the physical spheres of the universe we inhabit.

Having been a little kid once, I literally never felt any urge or need to go to Disney land/world and was never once bullied or pressured to go.

This is a made-up issue.

Is "food" a social construct?

Hear me out. There’s nothing innate to an object that makes it “food”. It’s an attribute we give to certain things that meet certain qualities, i.e. being digestible, nutritious, perhaps tasty or satisfying in some way, etc. We could really ingest just about anything, but we call the stuff that’s edible “food”....

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

This constant trend in this stupid community to just post “Is [insert word] not what it is defined to mean??” As some mind blowing idea is exhaustingly boring.

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

No, it’s not a social construct, it’s a description of things that are consumed for nutritional value. Sure, “food” is a social construct in that it’s an English Language word used to describe said items, but every single life form consumes some form of food, regardless of said life form’s society (or more often lack thereof).

Also there are literally objective things innate to certain objects that make them food so you’re entire initial premise is idiotic.

Registering as an "Independent" party member doesn't mean you have no party affiliation; most states have an Independent party who has a platform that you may or may not agree with!

It’s a common misconception, but if you registered “Independent Party” you aren’t “independent” you are a member of your state’s Independent party, who has a platform and agenda you may or may not agree with. What you actually want is called an “unaffiliated” voter status. The good news is, all you have to do...

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

Pro tip: you can vote for whoever you want to in US elections, regardless of party registration—registering as a member of a political party in the US means literally nothing—save for getting sales calls, being combined with a meaningless cohort for reports on “polls” and being given the option to vote in some primaries.

So long as you are eligible to, and registered to vote in your municipality, you can exercise your civic duty to vote. Don’t let weird psy-op posts like this one imply you’re unable to make your voice heard.

Because the cult is about the man, not the idea. Ron DeSantis tried to be just that (not saying he holds any of those qualities that you mentioned, just that he tried) and failed because no one cares about what Trump actually stands for (when you listen to Trump supporters talk about him, you’d think they would actually vote for democrats considering the issues they bring up—barring the worst of the worst racist, homophobic deranged individuals of course). At the end of the day, they just care about their god-lord little-hand long-tie orange-faced crybaby and the made-up grievances he’s had to endure and how that somehow translates to their own impending persecution.

The reason the Democratic Party hasn’t does that is they hold the monopoly on milquetoast impotence in governing, as their corporate overlords have decreed.

Transition from litter box to doing business outdoors

We’ve got one cat 6months and the other 3months old, currently both using the litterbox. However we’re going to move to a new house soon, and eventually try to transition them to getting used to doing their business outdoors instead of the litterbox. Does anyone have any tips or best practices for this transition?...

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

Cats are an invasive and detrimental species and should not be allowed to roam freely outside. Just because there’s some breed that originated from your country doesn’t negate the fact they are a non native species nearly everywhere and wreak havoc on the local population of small animals.

Work in excess of 40 hrs per week is generally guaranteed overtime pay so that so called company you supposedly work for is really doing itself dirty if its requiring its employees to put in such hours.

I’m more inclined to assume you’re just a troll doing some soft propaganda so not really interested in any further conversation—but if you’re a real person and you really do work for a company that’s just gonna start requiring working over 40 hrs a week id suggest reporting the company to your state’s department of labor and finding a new place to work.

I live in a state with what would be considered nationally to have very robust public transit—and it fucking sucks. After years of relying on it and on a bike to get around I just want to own a car.

It’s very much baked into American culture but there is no reality where the us builds trains or runs busses out to national parks or every single rural town. Cars are an unfortunate necessity for this country.

Completely random stoned hypothetical. Lets day im old as fuck and I decide I’m ready and done. Could I have the same postmortem autopsy done on me while I’m still alive? 9 years later, I finally played fallout 4

Having dropped New Vegas in the past due to lost interest, I decided to try this game out finally since a friend of mine was having a fallout 3 playthrough himself. It was it 8 bucks, so I figured why not. I have to say, I put way more hours into this game than both other Bethesda games I’ve played through (Skyrim and...

Donebrach , (edited )
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been replaying and somewhat enjoying Fallout 4 recently too and all I can say is Bethesda made a very good (and janky) video game back in 2003 and managed to reskin it into 5 different games over the past 20 years fairly well—only blatantly showed its age with Starfield because they removed all the (now out of date) modernizations introduced in Fallout 4. I will not buy The Elder Scrolls VI if that ever comes to market.

Just throwing it out there if you haven’t played it, The Outer Worlds hits all the fallout notes in a tighter package (also made by obsidian who made New Vegas)

@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not at all defending advertisements because, like every single person on earth, I hate them. However, the constant complaint that games are expensive is more and more becoming absolutely out of touch. Considering how complex modern games are from a software standpoint, they are fucking cheap as hell. $60 for (generally speaking) 40+ hours of entertainment is a goddamn bargain, not to mention they’ve mostly been priced the same for the better part of two decades. Y’all realize actual people make these things right? People who need to be paid for the work they do? Of all the absolute shit that happens behind the scenes and in plain daylight in the gaming industry, I think we can find better things to bitch about than the price of games.

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

So because someone made something as a hobby that means other people shouldn’t be paid for work? Also, sure, tools exist to ease in the production of a game (and in every other creative media), doesn’t negate the fact that people’s talent and work are what make the product exist.

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

So… Like I said, there are plenty of things to complain about in the gaming industry aside from the price of AAA titles (which contrary to your claim) have remained priced at about $60 for the past 20+ years. These so-called price hikes are non-existent, and based on inflation, are actually price decreases. Yes, most profits for everything (not just games) go to the CEOs and investors, that is the root cause of the destruction of the western world.

Also there are myriad fantastic indie titles that only cost like $20 so, uh, go play them instead?

As for your claim of digital releases briefly being cheaper than physical copies—I don’t recall that ever being a thing. Granted, I was mostly a console gamer from the 90s through the early 2010s so maybe I missed that.

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

Considering that most titles are cross platform I’d say it’s actually much more difficult to produce games these days than it was in the past (see Cyberpunk’s shaky release due to it trying to run on everything under the sun at launch—and being forced out too early due to investor demand). It’s not like game engines and other development tools make it so people press a button that says “make game” and the game pops into existence.

My main point is that games have not actually gone up in price for over two decades. And, as you have pointed out as well, there are an awful lot of actual things to complain about with the gaming industry. The out of pocket cost we pay to play the games is really not one of them.

What is the benefit of closing Studios? Why not sell them?

Yes, this is in relation to the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin. Is there some immediate monetary benefit behind it that I have no idea about? Is it so they can keep the IPs and not have to deal with the developers? Are the Studios too expensive for anyone to buy? I honestly don’t understand how these executives...

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

Welcome to investor-stage capitalism where nothing is worth anything other than to the brief returns for the investor. If the investor has not made marginal profit it is time to kill, kill, kill, regardless of the product; be that a studio, a game, a food, a medicine, a house. Better burn it to the ground than risk any marginal loss. (Ignore of course the lack of product, content, value, etc that would actually entice someone to buy—the only reason a company should exist is to give money to investors—no product should come before that!)

I constantly see angry mobs of people decrying “woke”, “critical race theory”, ““grooming””, and whatever other nonsense they made up this week.
