Some cats will even lift a paw to pull your hand (the direct source of pets) towards them.

Can’t tell if you’re being facetious or not, but I do hate when they show an artist’s rendering as clickbait because the actual photo is super blurry.

Reminds me of how some people got a bunch of fake research papers published to prove how flawed the system is. And they would have gotten still more published but the WSJ caught on and they were exposed.

That he is! He’s a constant source of fluff despite the almost-daily brushing.

More pets will be bestowed in your name. 😁

Murphy is indoor-only but we sometimes take him outside on a leash. We recently moved into a house with a backyard that opens into a forest, and we were hoping to eventually let him out on his own, but we saw a young black bear wandering around last week and there are birds of prey in the skies, so he’ll have to stay inside or with us all the time.

We’ve only had him 19 years. We’re guessing he was around 1 when we first adopted him. Here is the first pic we have of him which might have been a few days after adoption. It was taken on May 25, 2005.

Maybe I should change the 20+ to 20ish in the title.

Another “already dead” anecdote:

I was commuting home from school when my ride drove past the immediate aftermath of an accident where a guy was run over by a bus. The tire has had gone over his head and there was brain matter splattered on the road. The thing I remember most is that the pulp-y remnants of his head had tire tread marks on it.

I asked a buddy of mine, if he could recommend only one movie from either Marvel or DC for me to watch, which one would it be? He said GotG. I watched it and loved it, bought the video game, made my husband watch it, who also loved it.

I agree Winn is a great villain.

Two other favorites of mine:

John Graves Simcoe in the series Turn: Washington’s Spies as portrayed by Samuel Roukin

Archibald Cunningham in the movie Rob Roy as portrayed by Tim Roth

Who would win: every human in the world vs. every animal in the world?

I’m thinking the animals would easily defeat us, since trying to get all 8 billion+ humans to agree on a plan of attack would be a near-impossible task. By the time we’d be done trying to coordinate a plan, I figure the lions and cheetahs would have already devoured us, not to mention the larger animals like the elephants....

cheesymoonshadow ,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

What if it’s a free-for-all? That is, all members of the animal kingdom attack us, but natural predation still occurs, so for example, if a bunch of insects swarm us, the birds and frogs will still eat them.

I was one of those people and consider myself very lucky. My first puff was at 9 but I didn’t start regularly smoking until I was 14. In a third-world country where the laws, if they even existed, were hardly enforced, it was easy to buy smokes as a minor. It was normal, even.

I smoked through my teens and 20s and into my 30s. Then one day, I decided to quit because I knew it wasn’t healthy and I had seen pictures of smokers’ lungs. I didn’t experience any “jonesing” and didn’t need to replace the habit with gum or patches or anything. It might have helped that I worked from home at the time and was addicted to video games, so I was very motivated to stay at home. I turn 50 this year and haven’t smoked since.

What is it about the text messages and emails sent by older people that make me feel like I'm having a stroke?

Maybe they're used to various shortcuts in their writing that they picked up before autocorrect became common, but these habits are too idiosyncratic for autocorrect to handle properly. However, that doesn't explain the emails I've had to decipher that were typed on desktop keyboards. Has anyone else younger than 45 or so felt similarly frustrated with geriatrics' messages?

Some people claim that speech is violence.

cheesymoonshadow ,
@cheesymoonshadow@lemmings.world avatar

You say you didn’t give them ammunition, but IMO you’ve done exactly that by giving them this weird “power” to make you feel like you should hide your true age or apologize for anything.

“Why aren’t you married?” “I haven’t met anybody worth making that kind of commitment to.”

“Why didn’t you have kids?” “Because I don’t want any (at this point).”

Live your life according to your own schedule and speak your actual truth.

I’m unemployed at the moment but my last two jobs I worked with plants – caring for and watering them – so waterproof boots or sneakers, moisture-wicking cargo or hiking pants/shorts, and a company shirt. If it’s cold, I layer a long-sleeved thermal shirt underneath. If it’s freezing, a warmer top with the company apron over everything.

My first serious boyfriend taught me how to change the oil, change a tire, and rotate the tires on my car. Also that I don’t like anal.

This is what I keep saying too. To believe that so many people would keep a secret is just insane. Like the conspiracy about the NFL being rigged. It’s not even just the number of people involved and the passage of time. With all the egos on any given team, there’s no way all the players, the coaches, and everybody else would roll over and throw a game just because that was "the plan"for that year.

Most unique looking celebrities?

I’m working on a side project studying variations in human facial features. It’s been helpful to study celebrity faces because it’s easy to find numerous reference photos. I’ve actually got a fairly good range of weird looking white men, turns out Hollywood is pretty flush with those, but it’s been harder to find...
