The first time our house was broken into and the thieves made off with our SNES and about 20-odd games. I still have some memories of going to the mall as a kid with my dad and brother excitedly lugging the SNES and Super Scope boxes through the mall.
The second time our house was broken into (different house and neighbourhood) years later the thieves stole my Gameboy Color, DS lite, and about 25 games between the two handhelds complete with every single box.
Some 20 years later I say I’m over it, but I still feel a knot in my stomach just revisiting the memories.
The German Navy is searching for a new storage system to replace the aging 8-inch (20cm) floppy disks which are vital to the running of its Brandenburg class F123 frigates. According to an official tender document, the ideal answer to the German Navy’s problems would be a drop-in floppy disk replacement based upon a storage...
One thing to remember is that “commissioned” means built and on the water. You can see in the Der Spiegel article linked up above that the actual design work on the vessel itself was happening back in 87/88 which means the targeting system was probably designed in 85/86…and now the choice of 8" floppy doesn’t seem nearly so odd.
I like the organic coffee that I can source from Galaxy Girl Coffee. If I am in a pinch and can’t wait days for a roast on site; I go for Peets, Caribou Coffee, or if I am feeling particularly odd, Starbucks. I only buy whole bean as I have a coffee grinder and my French Press needs a great coarse grind to work its magic.
The USS Indianapolis had delivered the crucial components of the first operational atomic bomb to a naval base on the Pacific island of Tinian. On August 6, 1945, the weapon would level Hiroshima. But now, on July 28, the Indianapolis sailed from Guam, without an escort, to meet the battleship USS Idaho in the Leyte Gulf in the...
There’s always a chance, it’s just very small. These corrupt justices are the end game for the republican party, the odds of any of them breaking ranks to convict is very low.
That said, it’s almost certainly not about conviction, so much as upholding the rule of law and creating political pressure and support for something like packing the court.
Reality and Russia’s perception are likely at odds with one another, but even if Russia’s perception is inaccurate and based on delusion and paranoia, it is nonetheless their perception.
I’ve always had trouble getting into coding/programming because I’ve never truly dedicated myself to it. Mostly, this is because I kinda always lose momentum to learn it. I’m a heavy FOSS user; I love coreboot/Libreboot and am interested in getting into firmware development. I’ve already helped test hardware for...
Someone showed me MSWLogo in high school. I figured out that I can draw cool stuff, and do calculations in it. It inspired me to learn a real programming language. C was my first language. Then a learned C++, and Python. Then I lost interest in it for a few years, got a bachelor’s in math. I’m still in math, but I gradually regained some interest in programming. It started with the odd bash script I had to write from time to time. Then I had some larger problem to solve, and decided to learn Rust to do it. Turned out great, it’s on GitHub with ~100 stars. Currently I mostly code in Haskell and Lean, both for non-professional hobby work.
The spare cotton spool thing is, at least, backed up by the odd shape of the Andorrian antennae. It’s also exactly the sort of slapdash, low-budget thing they had to do back in the day.
I spend a lot of time fixing things, for myself and others. (Computers, electrical, plumbing, etc). While I learn a lot, I wonder sometimes if it would be better to pay a professional and do something else for which I am more ‘valuable’. Do you do the same, and do you find it worthwhile?
$150 for weekends. We pay for house cleaning and lawn mowing so that we can have weekends free, and it’s absolutely worth it to me. We don’t actually get these done every week but together that is what we’d pay to be able to not spend the weekend cleaning and mowing.
My work? If I was providing what I do professionally to someone, I would say $50 an hour, for actual productive hours. But I’ve done odds and ends work for less, and very occasionally for more.

Well I find it crazy because I went to public school, but like I’ve talked to an oddly large amount of people who either didnt go to public school or think everything should be privatized. Of the people in my extended family like a third were homeschooled for instance.
I watched sword art online because I read a little about the plot and it sounded interesting to me. Second was High School DxD I believe I picked because there wasn’t much else dubbed (I don’t watch anything dubbed really now).
I went through a big binge of practically everything after that but only really watch the odd airing one now.
Hundreds of Europeans touring the American West and adventurers from around the U.S. are still being drawn to Death Valley National Park, even though the desolate region known as one of the Earth’s hottest places is being punished by a dangerous heat wave blamed for a motorcyclist’s death over the weekend....
Oddly, at least according to Wikipedia, the group that named it only lost one person there. They just expected to die.
A group of European-American pioneers got lost here in the winter of 1849-1850, while looking for a shortcut to the gold fields of California, giving Death Valley its grim name. Although only one of the group members died here, they all assumed that the valley would be their grave.

You think it's weird that someone speaking in their second language in a position of great international power is using language that you wouldn't use day to day?
There's no trick here. It's not a term he made up, it's one rooted in relevant international law. Stoltenberg said exactly what he meant: Russia's war is unjust. If you think that that's an odd position for the secretary general of NATO to express then I really don't know what to tell you

I’ve never used Mint for gaming, but if you’ll be running Windows games I’d definitely look at something like Bazzite, EndeavourOS, or even PopOS. They use more up-to-date kernels and will reduce the odds of your Windows games not working. I’d probably try Bazzite first; PopOS is great but has a huge overhaul coming down the pipeline, and EndeavourOS is somewhat dependent on the terminal and may not be the best first distro to learn with.

Nerdy conventions are well-known for bringing people together who have the same or very comoatible kinks. The more you lean into a fandom, the better your odds of getting laid. Custom cosplay is like a big “pick me” sign.
Did I do something odd when I set up my windows 11 machine?
If Microsoft has something marked as admin access, it just presents me with a dialogue asking if I want to do whatever as admin
I mean it’s not like I have open hardware so there’s a whole lot of my machine I really have no practical access to, but everything this guy wants is there
Him saying he’s the owner suggests a private machine, so no corporate lockout from system components. Do computer shops set up admin accounts and lock their customers out as low-privileged users?

You keep focusing on exit nodes, and your favorite groups of people… while missing that relay nodes still help, and in either case you don’t get to choose whom you’re helping.
Laughing off the risk of actually getting killed, is also too naive, in a world with zealots just too happy to travel anywhere you might be.
In any case, I don’t feel like risking even jail time for maybe helping some people I might like, while most likely helping people I definitely don’t. If you do find that risk acceptable, then go for it.
Orbot, aka Tor, doesn’t just obfuscate the source IP, it hides it. What does that bring to the table with Syncthing?
