The whole issue with LLM models right now is that they are notoriously difficult to control. If it were up to Google, every single response would include a reference to some sponsored content - but they can’t do that without completely destroying the usefulness of the output and besmirching the sponsor’s brand.
Of course, as time passes, we’re going to refine this technology, until we have enough control to implement these terrible/profitable ideas. Like any aspect of life under capitalism, we can really only enjoy it while it lasts.
I hope at that point we have enough capable alternatives. Like, hopefully around the time they add ads is also the time when open-source models and apps have caught up again.
“ One look at this chart should be sufficient to understand why the Great Crash of 1929 was both great, and a major cause of the Great Depression which followed it, and why levered speculation, rather than rational calculation, dominates the behaviour of asset markets.”
“ Finance, and banking, and macroeconomics, are therefore integrated topics: they cannot be treated as separate domains, as Neoclassical treats them. My focus in this book is on how macroeconomics and the theory of banking need to be overhauled, and a similar overhaul is needed of finance theory.”
“ I won't attempt that here, but fortunately, that process has been started by a group of mathematicians in the London Mathematical Laboratory. They are developing what they call "Ergodicity Economics" to replace the existing theory of finance.”
I'm looking for benchmarks.

The James Beard nominations for 2024 have just been announced, and a few of the folks we've worked with over the years are in the mix. Here's the full list of nominees, via @Eater:
Toni Tipton-Martin scored a James Beard nomination for "Juke Joints, Jazz Clubs, and Juice: Cocktails from Two Centuries of African American Cookbooks." Here's her @Flipboard collection about her work in raising the profile of Black cuisine.
And the team at "High on the Hog" were nominated in the docuseries category. The show's host, Whetstone magazine founder Stephen Satterfield, curated this @Flipboard Storyboard about what food can teach us about Black identity and culture.
Many children with autism thrive on routine and predictability, which can make vacations challenging for them. Here's a story from USA Today with tips on how to plan a trip, choose an airline that provides accommodations for autistic children, and details on what to expect from an autism-certified resort.
@neilhimself@pablolarah the rumour around the internet is that you support Israel in this ongoing conflict. So maybe not that odd thing to say. Anyway, free Palestine 🇵🇸❤️🖤🤍💚🥰☺️
My doctor wasn't interested in giving me an #autism diagnosis.
I've had him for 10 years, have only seen him for 3-4 appointments during this time, and In our 45 seconds discussing autism, he stated, after literallylooking me up and down, "I don't see it."
Well, you wouldn't. I do eye contact for important short meetings like doctors and lawyers, I am a chameleon and can dress myself for any role, including, "older dude going to doctors office" and I can read, write and speak fairly eloquently, so in these meetings, what would he even be "seeing"?? 🤔
I'm assuming that some people shop for diagnosis for long term disability or other reasons, but I just wanted to know if I suck at Being Normal for any particular reason besides I Suck at Life, which I'm ... oh, whatever. There is no easy path for a second opinion, so I guess it dies here.
Apparently not #actuallyAutistic after all, and as I don't see any other path to diagnosis, I should probably shut the f about it
@Tim_McTuffty@BernieDoesIt@actuallyautistic apologies for the late reply but this is totally relatable, and I'm glad you got assessed. I am probably going to do a serious set of self exams, and maybe see if there is any path to seeing a more qualified professional here (as with many places, the medical profession here is still stressed by echos of the covid crisis, and there are doctor shortages and waits for certain specialties.)
@hooves@BernieDoesIt@actuallyautistic I got lucky, the NHS has a horrendous waiting list , but there is a little know bit of legislation that allowed me to use a private provider (after much soul searching) & it was done & dusted within 6 months.
I wish you luck with your journey mon ami, if you check out #TimsASDjourney there maybe some vaguely useful nuggets of info buried in the dross of my daily ramblings about ASD & life in general.
