anders , in Tinder to ban web developers who use 'engineer' in their bio

@LinearArray Deleted Tinder around a week ago.

It used to be really good back in 2012-2014 but not anymore I think.

TankovayaDiviziya ,

It was good… when dating apps were considered socially taboo lol.

anders ,

@TankovayaDiviziya
True haha. But also the the algorithm was better. When Tinder needed to cash in for the investors the quality dropped because then the focus became about making money more than it's about satisfying the users. We have to remember that if you get a match which gets into a relationship, Tinder loses two customers.

Interesting 😄

Tikiporch ,

So you continued to use it for 10 years before deleting it, or you just got on and the hype didn’t live up to expectations?

anders ,

@Tikiporch
I used it until around a week ago.

It was just a habit when I was single and then a week ago I finally evaluated that habit and realized that the quality had actually dropped in 2017 when I got back onto the app after a 3 years long relationship.

8 JOINS??? ARE YOU TRYING TO DIE

souperk ,

No, they are using an ORM.

xpinchx ,

You guys are only using 8 joins?

What it feels like to smoke 8 joins

Crashumbc ,

I worked on an enterprise wide medical record system for seventeen years.

It had 10000 tables in the schema. Our particular setup populated 1500 of them. ( yes I meant tables).

8+plus happened…

bappity ,
@bappity@lemmy.world avatar

:(

rimjob_rainer ,

So are you using FHIR yet?

Crashumbc ,

Lol, is funny you ask. I mainly worked on interfaces.

The medical industry makes the banking industry look nimble.

The organization had a couple interfaces using the protocol when I left. But adoption is slow, just about everyone still uses HL7. But it has been a couple years.

rimjob_rainer ,

I asked because I’ve been working in the same field for 10 years, interfaces as well. You can count our FHIR interfaces on one hand, the rest is DICOM, HL7 or proprietary.

FurbiesAndBeans ,

It’s fine if they’re indexed correctly…

Learn to use git bisect. If you have unit tests, which of course you should, it can save you so much time finding weird breakages.

xthexder ,
@xthexder@l.sw0.com avatar

With automated CI, I’ve had very few times where bisect is useful. Either the bug was introduced 1-2 commits ago, or it’s always been there and the exact commit is irrelevant to the solution, since you just fix it forward.

One of my system engineers started using TFS a few weeks ago. All he knows how to do is click Sync Changes in vscode and call me if there’s a problem.

Average linux user managing his dotfiles.

Yes I’m guilty of that, only thing more I know is creating new branches.
