I was wondering if this was a legit tribe or one of those shitty “white people desperate to open an Indian casino” tribes with two registered members that are like 1/24000 native American or some shit. I kind of looked them on Wikipedia, they seem legit.

Their land was stolen. This is in no way worse than what Wall St continues to do. Capitalism, baby!

Badabinski ,

I'm fairly certain that they lend to everyone, not just other tribes. The article makes it sound like the tribes out in the boonies need to do something to survive, and the US federal aid mandated in our treaties is hideously insufficient for their needs. Like, I think that what they're doing is bad because you shouldn't harm people, and you especially shouldn't harm people who are struggling. However, I can at least understand why they're doing it. I can also see that the society they're targeting shares responsibility for the situation. If the US had been continuously honoring the letter and spirit of the treaties we signed with the tribes, then the tribes would've have to resort to exploitative shit like casinos and predatory lending to make money. People will do whatever it takes to improve their situation, and it's a shame that the US has failed in this regard.

As an aside and for the sake of clarity, I think casinos are predatory and exploit people who don't understand their odds, but I'm not against their existence in general, or their existence on reservations. Native American folks can do what they want, it's their goddamned land, and the consenting adults who go to casinos have a responsibility to themselves. I only bring up casinos because of my perception of them and their presence on reservations.

(Also, fuck non-tribe people that use reservations as a way to skirt US regulations. I had no idea that non-tribe people used tribes as fronts for shitty lending operations. Again, kinda smells like something that could have been prevented with proper federal aid.)

Does the article say they’re targeting indigenous people? They said they deal nationwide. I have no problem with them financially cursing colonizers.

Abusive lending should never be allowed. Making exceptions is hypocritical.

This is not a political statement. If you are a woman and are unable, or choose not, to have children, please have yourself more regularly screened for breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers.

Women who do not have children are at a higher risk for these types of cancers as well as other disorders. Doctors don’t always recommend increased screening for childless women despite the increased risk.

And, in general, women should regularly do self exams of their breasts for lumps or changes in the breast tissue, ideally as a part of your shower/bath routine.

It’s even more pronounced in smaller mammals like rabbits. If you don’t spay your rabbit and don’t let it breed within the first 3 years it will have ~80% chance of developing Uterine cancer and dying 12-18 months later. Usually dying beween 3 and 5 years old. A spayed rabbit, or one that’s breeding will live to 8 if all goes well.

It appears to be breast, ovarian and uterine cancers.

It appears to be exposure to the bodies sex hormones, primarily during reproductive years.

Taking certain types of hormonal birth control seems to have a similar protective effect, while others have an increased risk (At least in the case of ovarian cancers).

I knew there were increased risks for some women from longitudinal exposure to birth control, but I never knew it could have a protective affect in others. Biology is wild man. Our bodies and the things we put into them are constantly in a battle somewhere between saving us, and killing us at all times. It’s both fascinating and also a bit terrifying really, at least to me.

iAmTheTot , in Donald Trump says he will flee to Venezuela if he loses election [Newsweek]

I hate Trump, but this framing is disingenuous. In the context of what he was saying, he was trying to make “a point” about South American countries sending criminals to the USA. He was claiming that if he doesn’t win the election, it would be safer to have their next conversation in Venezuela because there would be no crime there as they’d have sent all criminals to USA.

So, you know, just more of his really stupid bullshit, but he wasn’t really saying he would flee to Venezuela. For one, that would require him to believe he had done something wrong or to admit some kind of defeat, two things that I firmly believe he is incapable of doing.
