Just don’t let him debate then. Imagine a GOP primary debate without Trump and how hilarious it would be as they struggle to debate actual policy.

Even a debate without Trump would inevitably devolve into an “I support/don’t support Trump” argument as the candidates vie for those voter scraps.

@malcriada_lala@lemmy.world avatar

I wish people would realize that humans only got to where we are because we are a COMMUNAL species. We developed complex language and tool usage BECAUSE we work together. Being “off the grid” is usually isolationist and therefore extremely dangerous. We need community in order to develop and manage the resources we need to survive.

Well no, there’s a difference between offgrid and alone and an offgrid commune.

The current infant-clothes to steak exchange rate is unfavorable. It would be wiser to hold off till the late autumn, when steak futures usually fall and clothing values skyrocket.

Reasonable. See you in the back-40.

It’s dangerous to go full off the grid, but in reality it’s never complete isolation. In Leave No Trace/My Abandonment (based on a true story) the father relied on disability checks to buy goods and educated his daughter using encyclopedias… In Walden Thorough is living alone in a remote area, but it’s not like he’s completely cut off from the benefits of society and has visitors somewhat regularly. I think there’s a difference between trying to minimize the brunt of society 24/7 vs going full isolation.

Pokethat ,

I’m a world of growing instability where the inputs for modern lifehave their supply consistency threatened, learning some basic survival skills is not a bad thing. Many countries will likely have huge energy, food, and water shortfalls in the coming years. Germany is burning what amounts to wet coal to make up for losing Russian oil. Ukraine was one of the world’s biggest wheat producers. Russia produced a lot of the world’s fertilizer. There are reasons to learn how to live without the entire support network most of us take for granted.

Though you should be pretty decent at living off grid before commiting to it.

Don’t assume that you’re cougar-proof or that 40°F and below weather with no real insulation is something you can save yourself from with enough bootstraps.

blackbrook ,

Also, we’re living in kind of an unprecedented part of history that enables is to be independent of other people in ways never before possible. So that gives people a very distorted sense of that, a lack of any notion of the importance of community. And of course this “independence” is achieved by a complete dependence on this huge ubiquitous economic machine.

walnutwalrus ,

I think sometimes it’s the extreme dependence that makes the attempt at off the grid freedom seem more attractive; it’s weird how the technology seems to both take away so much freedom and yet make people feel independent at the same time

These people care more about an unborn baby than they do about the baby after it’s born. Actually sad.

If every one of these anti-abortion assholes want to start taking the babies of families who cannot raise them then it wouldn’t be seen as just a disgustingly hypocritical movement. That is not the case. If you want to start forcing women to have babies they can’t care for but you don’t want to take care of the consequences of that, you are the problem.

This is not a political statement. If you are a woman and are unable, or choose not, to have children, please have yourself more regularly screened for breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers.

Women who do not have children are at a higher risk for these types of cancers as well as other disorders. Doctors don’t always recommend increased screening for childless women despite the increased risk.

And, in general, women should regularly do self exams of their breasts for lumps or changes in the breast tissue, ideally as a part of your shower/bath routine.

    lolcatnip ,

All true except Biden had nothing to do with his son being prosecuted. At most, Biden will allow him to go to prison by leaving office without pardoning him (which I believe he will do, because it’s the not-corrupt thing to do.)

    dhork ,

No, he absolutely should pardon Hunter. He should acknowledge the hypocrisy in a public statement, though. He should note the broad power the Supreme Court has given him to take Official Actions like this with impunity, and double-dog dare Congress to do whatever it takes to rein in abuses like that.

    lolcatnip ,

    Hmm, that’s a good point.

    toasteecup ,

I don’t think it’s a matter of having the chutzpah or not.

Biden at his core is a pretty solid straight lace public servant. He listens to the majority of the people and tries to do what’s best for the country. While that move would be great for the country, it goes against his straight lacedness.

    theangryseal ,

I mean, this is what I’d do.

I try hard to hold onto my moral compass and practice what I preach, but when it comes to my kids I probably could go hard. Especially if they were facing a future in a cage. If I had the power I just wouldn’t let it happen.

    Tja ,

It’s not an abuse, or at least not a new abuse. Presidents always had pardon power, and trump himself pardoned his friends. Nothing to do with the SC ruling.

    dhork ,

But he can now highlight it as an “official act”, which means that he can do whatever he wants, no backsies.

He can further drive the point home by publically stating that Hunter gave him a $5 “gratuity” afterwards, and daring Mike Johnson to impeach him over it.

    Corkyskog ,

Biden should direct the ATF to pull Marijuana Receipts and IDs from dispensary logs. Then compare that against FID card dates and charge the lot of them.
