Lemmy.ml tankie censorship problem

I feel like we need to talk about Lemmy’s massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml. It’s been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, let’s say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, they’re what’s colloquially referred to...

Thanks I think you’re pretty nifty too. You’re welcome over for latkas anytime

toasteecup ,

That one no, but there are plenty of leftists in the fediverse that can’t understand the concept of “Zionism is not Judaism.” And saying such gets you down voted because lol.

toasteecup ,

Holy fuck.

Zionism (the political policy supporting the genocide) is not Judaism. How would I know? I’m a Jew and I abhore the Palestinian genocide. Nothing in the Jewish religion supports what is going on nor does anything in our religion say “go be ZIONISTS and kill people”.

toasteecup ,

Not sure if you mean me by “person you’re replying to” or someone else. I believe it’s someone else but it’s a little bit of a confusing sentence.

Either way, it’s been a fun couple of months since this bullshit started. With all kinds of dumb takes and arguments. It’s enough to make someone say “oyvey”

toasteecup ,

That’s possible, the statement is a bit ambiguous as to which part they are "whomp whomp"ing to.

toasteecup ,

People are happy and enjoy eating them so I guess I’m doing it right. How are you making yours?

toasteecup ,

Gotcha gotcha

toasteecup ,

That’s a fair question.

In consideration, take the Jim Crow laws from the USA. These laws enforced racial segregation and allowed for abject racism and abhorrent conditions/treatment of black people. In short, they supported racism.

Now one could say “but the people were the ones to carry it out” which sure, but then we might as well start asking ourselves how much government really matters and other philosophical questions. I don’t think the people are innocent, but to focus on your question, that’s an example of how political policy and laws can support things. The laws enable the legal environment, the people then carry it out.

toasteecup ,

Would be really smart if they so made it so that people are able to order actual products through the virtual store for delivery. Akin to ready player one or snow crash.

Would absolutely need some protections so a kid isn’t just buying a bunch of random stuff but that’s something to be figured out and would help Roblox transition to more than just “a game for kids”

toasteecup ,

Still do. To my knowledge they were never removed…

toasteecup ,

The risk can be pretty fun hombre but you do what works for ya and I’ll own up to what I’ve done if I have to. A seemingly rare trait here in the states

toasteecup ,

Wait we don’t allow people with felonies to enter? Quick! Get trump to leave the country!

I know it doesn’t work that way but God would it be funny.

Use volcanic ash to reverse global warming

While I was in the shower, I thought of a brilliant idea! Let’s trigger several smaller volcanic eruptions that release a semi-controlled amount of volcanic ash into other atmosphere. That will cool down the atmosphere, which should buy us some time to fix our carbon emissions....

I personally want to see humans invest in geoengineering but not for climate change. I believe geoengineering research and development will lead to terraforming which we’ll need to expand beyond the earth.

Iranian President Raisi feared dead as helicopter wreckage found (www.yahoo.com)

(Reuters) -Hopes are fading that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister have survived a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain and icy weather, an Iranian official said on Monday after search teams located the wreckage. “President Raisi’s helicopter was completely burned in the crash … unfortunately, all...

That’s one hell of a “rough landing”

It’s sad that for anyone to vote for a candidate in the US it actually is Trump or Biden.

You’re welcome to say 3rd party all you want but that 1% of the vote ain’t saying much good.

toasteecup ,

+1 to this. I built a few deb packages at a previous company. It was a solid packaging suite but good lord was it a pain to work through

toasteecup ,

It’s been a stance the US has had since the inception of Israel after ww2. Back then, the US had significantly more christians and christians tend to view jews as important because the bible says israel is where the end of days is supposed to start. After that decline, Israel has been viewed as an important ally for military reasons.

toasteecup ,

This will be one of the few times that having a bible thumping bitch of a step mother will come in handy. That’s definitely a verse but the story of end of days or “The Rapture” goes suchly

The antichrist will return and work to reunite the peoples of the desert, while doing so, they will also rebuild the lost temple of israel and once complete will sit upon the throne at which point the great armies shall unite in the middle east in a furious bloodshed. The antichrist will bring peace to that fight and demand subserience from all man. At that point, the rapture will happen and then the final prophecies shall begin.

For christians, this is seen as a good thing as they will be raptured and the good humans shall live in god’s final kingdom. For any of this to happen, Israel needs to exist.

In short, dogma as fuck.

toasteecup ,

What a rare W

The group adds that “rhetorical and physical manifestations” of antisemitism include such things as calling for the killing or harming of Jews or holding Jews collectively responsible for actions taken by Israel.

This is actually really good and a point I’ve tried to make to lukewarm success. The Israelis are not always in favor of the actions of their government much like we Americans aren’t. Making this distinction is important so that we remember who we’re actually angry at and who we demand action from regarding the clear genocide of the Palestinians.

Context: I’m an American Jew who is furious with Bibi’s actions and the IDF.

toasteecup ,

There’s a comment thread below yours that I’d love for you to read. This isn’t a “hey fuck off” but an actual ask since one of the comments is very similar to my mindset of the bill and I believe we can have a pretty good convo once you read the mindset a bit.

I agree that it has potential for misuse, but read the thread and let’s discuss (also it’s bedtime here so expect a delay in response from me please)

toasteecup , (edited )

I understand that you’re trying to be helpful, but you’re jewplaining my culture to me. Please stop.

I’m fully aware that zionism does not equal judaism .

I’m also aware of some of the more problematic parts of the bill, but none of it directly ties Judaism to Zionism. The closest we get is this section

“Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g. by claiming that the existence of the State of Israel is a racist endeavor”

but even that at the moment is a stretch. The right to self-determination and sovereignty are rights respected by most every country and the UN. What I see as problematic would be potential future law that would define the boundaries of the State of Israel to include Palestine.

Mind helping me see your perspective on what makes this an L?

Edit: I just realized that my attempt to shorthand does not equal got rekt.

@binthinkin

Hopefully you can forgive the typo and we can still discuss

If we took material like rock from space and got it back to Earth enough times, would Earth grow as a planet?

As the title says. I’m actually thinking about this hard with my friends because everything that’s produced on Earth stays on Earth so it doesn’t change size, but what if it’s not from Earth but it stays on Earth? https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/4b10eeca-d3fc-4aca-beff-8d9cb61b303a.png

Isn’t the cost of living in Germany also lower than us statie boys?

toasteecup ,

I’m assuming you mean the government of Israel, but please be cautious with your statements. Some of my family is Israeli and they certainly don’t support the genocide.

toasteecup ,

I suppose I’m different then, I try to reserve my displeasure to the particular group or groups I dislike

toasteecup ,

… Did you just compare my family to Nazis? Jfc I’m not drunk enough for this.

toasteecup ,

I’d recommend talking with someone else dude. I don’t care what opinion you have anymore, you already fucked up. Without even knowing how they are trying to fight you, you automatically assumed and compar d them to Nazis. We done here.

toasteecup ,

For discussion’s sake, I’d say that our definitions are different. For me, when someone says country that’s both the government and the citizenry of the country. Based on what you’re saying that means just the government of the country. Both are valid definitions given the flexibility of the English language.

toasteecup ,

But if I don’t vote how else will I let genocide joe know I oppose his genocide in Israel?! /s

Trump's lawyers seek to suspend $83M defamation verdict, citing 'strong probability' it won't stand (apnews.com)

Donald Trump’s lawyers asked a New York judge Friday to suspend an $83.3 million defamation verdict against the former president, saying there was a “strong probability” that it would be reduced on appeal, if not eliminated....

toasteecup ,

As much as I want trump to hurt, don’t increase it.

For it to stick permanently, based on supreme Court case law, the amount needs to stay below a particular percentage. (I don’t remember the specifics, legal eagle has a good video on this)

So if you wanna hurt the Cheeto, hope it stays below that amount.

toasteecup ,

Best way to do it imo

toasteecup ,

You’re welcome to provide evidence to the contrary but his presidency was pretty strong indications. Look at what his supreme court picks did.
