Nuke_the_whales , in Uvalde shooter’s uncle begged police to let him talk to the gunman

Uvalde county overwhelmingly voted Abbott, and re elected all the sheriffs, judges and politicians who did nothing while kids died. I guess my empathy is all spent, when I see that they don’t even care about their own kids who died. They had a chance to bring about change and instead chose Republicans again. Uvalde doesn’t deserve my sympathy.

Gloomy , (edited )
@Gloomy@mander.xyz avatar

So because the majority of voters voted Republican the parents who lost children deserve no empathy from you, even if you don’t knwo how they voted.

This is a shit take. Everybody who lost a child deserves empathy, period.

Nuke_the_whales ,

If that community doesn’t care about it’s own kids, I’m not gonna waste my energy. I’ll give my support to people who want it

ChonkyOwlbear , in Texas orders hospitals to collect data on undocumented migrants

How do they expect hospitals to know someone’s citizenship status? I’ve been using a union clinic for years so I don’t know for sure how regular hospitals work, but it’s not like they refuse service if you don’t have ID, right?

Elextra ,

Yes, they are required to treat anyone, regardless of status. EMTALA.

For your first question, we know and if not directly told, sometimes we have high suspicions. I employ social workers who directly ask what their social situation is (housed, finances, etc) and for any uninsured we ask if they would like Medicaid. More often than not they disclose (CA is a lot friendlier than TX) and we document it and find the appropriate resources for them. If they dont tell us, we dont document our suspicions (because we cannot objectively confirm) but we can def tell. They tend to speak another language only, be very guarded with their questions, etc. We often have Chinese and Hispanic individuals undocumented. We connect them to MediCal, PRUCOL, and treat them like anyone else, providing them as much support and resources as possible.

I’m not sure how forthcoming they are in Texas but im very positive these Texas hospitals also know which active and prior patients are undocumented if that information is disclosed. It is not difficult to search charts.

AmidFuror , (edited ) in White Dudes for Harris says it ‘broke’ Fox News after awkward segment where Jesse Watters tries to force co-host to wear merch

In the caption to one of the pictures, the (R) designation for Republican got auto-corrected to a registered trademark symbol. The text formatting below may match the article depending on your instance.

Harold Ford Jr (L) and Jesse Watters (R) had an awkward exchange on Fox New’s The Five on Thursday (Fox News/White Dudes for Harris)

Edit: Fixed formatting thanks to @edgemaster72.

edgemaster72 ,
@edgemaster72@lemmy.world avatar

Escape the open parenthesis by prefixing it with a backslash, like such

®

To prevent the autocorrect to ® and produce (R) instead

AmidFuror ,

Using Mbin through a browser, I see it as (R) in my post (capital R inside parentheses). Are you saying my earlier comment with no escape character renders as the trademark symbol for you?

Regardless, it's rendered incorrectly in the article's picture caption.

edgemaster72 ,
@edgemaster72@lemmy.world avatar

Correct, for me it’s showing in both your text and the quoted text as the registered trademark symbol rather than being the (R) designation.

AmidFuror ,

Ok, I will fix the original comment. Thanks.

i dunno what’s got you upset up but i and all my homies are extremely entertained watching these shitty bastard pig chud scumbags squirm and flail as their best laid plans crumble out from under them. the republicans might actually lose. and if they do, I will be laughing SO hard. don’t mistake me for a fan of the democrat party though; taking the bluedogs out to kristi noem’s gravel pit is definitely ALSO on the docket. It’s just important that we exterminate the fascists first. THEN we can commence flaying alive the centrist toadies who bent over backwards to accommodate them.

“The texts were particularly jarring because Mrs. Adelson and Mr. Trump had a friendly meeting just a week earlier at the Republican National Convention, according to a person briefed on the matter,” the report notes before adding that Trump was manipulated into attacking Adelson by another donor, Ike Perlmutter, who “had hoped in vain that Mrs. Adelson would contribute to a rival super PAC that he backs.”

That’s why all of them are fucked after Trump dies. They all hate each other, they’re constantly backstabbing each other. They have nothing after he’s gone. No one to rally around.

Hydra_Fk ,

This is where you’re* wrong. There will always be greed for money and lust for control. Soon as orange shit stain absconds from earth, there will be another to fill the void. *Edit spelling

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I think you underestimate what happens after a personality cult loses its object of veneration.

Hydra_Fk ,

Yes Elvis died, rock and roll remains. Evil greed will don a new face unfortunately.

kboy101222 ,

Rock and roll existed independently of Elvis. The Cult of Trump doesn’t exist without Trump. When he dies, they’ll all scramble for that power. They’re already fighting each other for a scrap of attention from daddy trump

Hydra_Fk ,

And the cult of trump existed before under various names Tea Party, the alt right, etc. but if that’s the fairy tale you wanna believe. Whatever keeps you warm at night pal.

Bobmighty ,

Trump was able to gather the hordes of weirdos in a way none of those other movements could. For whatever reason, he was an exceptionally powerful populist, and the other craven greed monsters want that power bad. It’s been shown that that magic doesn’t run off on them though and it seems to be flaking off trump very quickly these days.

There will always be another eventually, but it can’t be denied that Trump’s star is falling, and the Republicans have no one able to gather the hordes like trump could at the moment. If they lose their ass in November, it’s very possible that it takes them quite a while to regroup in any real way. Their penchant for infighting will slow things down.

Hydra_Fk ,

Wow pal, this is a lot of words to say you agree with me. You should work on that people would in the real world would appreciate it I imagine.

Bobmighty ,

I don’t agree with you. No one will immediately fill his shoes. All the dip shits who are lined up to try are already proven failures that can’t gather the base enough. They will flounder for quite some time if they can’t manage to steal the election. Saying evil will rise again eventually is basically saying air exists. No shit the fight never ends, but it’s not nearly as hopeless as you posit.

Hydra_Fk ,

I’m not hopeless foo, I’m just not filled with a childlike naivety. You must remain ever vigilant against dark forces. You think the clowns performing this circus act are in control? An illusion. While Bobmighty is out performing tricks.

TheFriar ,

Well, that is until those 1,000 people hold all the money in the world. Then they’ll finally turn on each other and fall to infighting.

Then the money will finally trickle down

dgmib , (edited )

There will definitely be someone trying to take his place.

But I’m old enough to remember the last 7 republican presidents and presidential nominees. None of them were like Trump.

They weren’t convicted felons, or impeached twice, or telling bold provably false lies daily. They didn’t double down on their lies when called out on it.

Some of them couldn’t find a coherent sentence without two hands and a flashlight but went on to be elected for two terms, while still managing not to recommend injecting bleach as a treatment for any medical condition.

Trump has something no Republican candidate in my lifetime (and probably ever) has, blind loyalty in the face of utterly ridiculous behaviour.

Hydra_Fk ,

Just because they have been progressively worse. Fool me once and I won’t get fooled again. Have a read thru memory lane www.ranker.com/list/…/notable-quotables

They even called them Bushisms for crying out loud. Plus you got to remember they didn’t run their mouths on the Internet 24/7.

FarFarAway ,

I think it depends on if he somehow becomes president or not.

If he doesnt, maga will die with him. If he does, all the rules will have been changed and all he needs to do is appoint next in line. Even if people don’t agree with the person he appoints, or the party tries to put someone else in their place, it will be too late.

Diplomjodler3 ,

Don’t threaten me with a good time.

jaybone ,

I hope you’re right. But I fear there will instead be some power vacuum, which will be filled with someone much smarter and maybe even more evil than Trump. Such a person will have been watching this shit show and paying attention to how easy it is to manipulate these idiots.
