PriorityMotif , in Homeowners are increasingly re-wilding their homes with native plants, experts say
@PriorityMotif@lemmy.world avatar

I neglect my yard so much that appealing natural plants started growing on aestheticly pleasing spots, so I just left them.

Aviandelight ,

This past spring I found out that the squirrels planted someone else’s crocuses in my yard. I don’t mind letting nature do the work for me.

Subtracty ,

I wish this would happen to me, it seems like every time I look away the seeds of some invasive vine are taking root in my yard. I’ve tried planting natives, but for me at least they have taken some work to cultivate and maintain despite trying to find natives that are appropriate for my soil and sun situation. I’m hoping every year the natives will be able to strengthen and outcompete the invasives, but for now I am stuck digging up roots and tearing down whatever non natives I find.

Jezebelley , in Hackers may have stolen the Social Security numbers of all Americans. Here's what to know.

All my credit reports are frozen because of the Equifax hack. Already went through all that years ago.

Sabata11792 ,

They unfreeze. I had to refreeze everything. Bullshit that I have to manage someone else’s data they stole from me.

Jezebelley ,
@Jezebelley@fedia.io avatar

They only unfreeze when you allow. Mine are still all frozen.

Sabata11792 ,

Is that a recent change? I froze mine a few years back and went in to check a few days ago and had to do it all over again. I don’t remember unfreezing it.

Jezebelley ,
@Jezebelley@fedia.io avatar

I have no idea. Mine have been frozen for years.

Senseless ,

I know what you mean. I make old people noises now, when I stand up from a low couch or sth.

girthero ,

Felt the same when i turned 30 years ago, but i improved my fitness from that point forward and improved things drastically for myself.

ChickenLadyLovesLife ,

I’m 57 and I bike 25 to 50 miles a day, four out of every five days. A lot of age-related problems can be forestalled just by exercising and not eating too much food - and it helps to not majorly injure yourself in the process. In my opinion, the primary problem with aging is that it gives you more time to become sedentary and overweight.

bitjunkie , in Google pulls the plug on uBlock Origin, leaving over 30 million Chrome users susceptible to intrusive ads

Next week: Over 30 million users pull the plug on Chrome, leaving Google execs to make the surprised Pikachu face and wonder aloud why millennials hate web browsers.

snailfact ,

Normal people are too lazy to care they are just going to get another ad blocking extension, even if it’s not as good as ublock.

thawed_caveman ,

Yeah, it takes some mental effort to change your habits, people are more likely to just install a new extension.

BUT, those extensions are probably next, dropping uBlock is part of a long-standing war by Google against ad blocking of all kinds. So at some point Chrome users won’t be able to escape ads, and then i do wonder if they’ll switch.

I feel like normal people who are too lazy to care would probably just use the default browser that came with their device. It will be Chrome if it’s an Android, but it will be everything but Chrome if it’s any other OS, it will be Edge or Safari.

Now i haven’t installed Chrome in a minute, but how many devices is it the default for? My understanding is that a lot of Chrome users specifically looked for it and installed it to use instead of the default, especially Windows users. And for that public, i do think it matters, i do think they would consider switching.

stoly ,

The sort of person who would sit through a Youtube ad or is still on Reddit won’t change. They’ll just get angry or perhaps not even notice.

Vought said his group, the Center for Renewing America, was secretly drafting hundreds of executive orders, regulations, and memos that would lay the groundwork for rapid action on Trump’s plans if he wins, describing his work as creating “shadow” agencies.

FUCKING LITERALLY every accusation is a fucking confession with these fucking people.

How can anyone who claims to be fucking religious think God is going to forgive all this lying and scheming? Do they think that their Lord stops watching when they’re doing bad things? Or that he’s okay with them doing bad things in his name? It’s fucking bonkers.

But I guess you’d have to be fucking bonkers to believe any of that bullshit anyway.

Seriously though, spread this shit like wildfire.

cyborganism ,

LoL! They can just ask for forgiveness.

/S of course

AlexanderESmith ,

Because God doesn't like lying and scheming... unless it's in his (loosly defined, unprovable, constantly shifting) design.

They're morally right and you're morally wrong. Why? Because they say so.

SnotFlickerman ,
@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You’re right, I forgot. Christianity comes with an endless “get out of jail free” card by asking forgiveness from Jesus. All you gotta do is let Jesus into your heart and boom bam thank you ma’am all your endless fuckups and unwillingness to be a better person are forgiven! Surely you’ll somehow be a better person in heaven!

RattlerSix ,

I’ve watched a lot of religious arguments and debates and, let me tell you, the religious have no problem whatsoever with lying. I mean, sometimes they’re wrong, sometimes they have a weird interpretation, but they also tell bold faced lies that are easily disproven. They do it often and even when proven to be a lie, they just keep saying it for years.

SnotFlickerman ,
@SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Hmm, I wonder if people should be judging them based on their actions instead of their professed religion.

AreaKode ,

I’m a better Christian than most Christians. And I don’t even believe in a Sky Daddy!

iAmTheTot ,

FYI, it’s “bald faced”. It comes from “barefaced”, as in, having nothing to hide behind. A bare/bald face has no hair to hide behind, so it is out in the open.

grue ,

They do it often and even when proven to be a lie, they just keep saying it for years.

Of course! After all, not questioning things regardless of evidence to the contrary is what religious “faith” is all about. Why would religious leaders push “faith” so hard if they weren’t planning on taking advantage of it?

pearsaltchocolatebar ,

Lol, those religious people have never actually read their religious texts. They just belive whatever their cult leader says.

UnderpantsWeevil ,

It’s different when they do it because they are the Heroic PCs rather than the Villainous NPCs.

They’re going to do the based trad MAGA reforms, not the Soy Woke Chinese Communism.

rand_alpha19 ,

How can anyone who claims to be fucking religious think God is going to forgive all this lying and scheming?

Idk about other Christians, but for Catholics you can just say, "oops, my bad," and do penance and you're good. God's like, oh well, you asked for forgiveness so that must mean you're like, super sorry. No Hell for you, because you're baptized and awesome.

The New Testament is like one massive cope after all the rules and violence in the Old Testament. At least from what I was taught in school; I don't read that shit as an adult.

@nifty@lemmy.world avatar

The God stuff is just used to control the masses and the useful idiots. No one in the upper echelons, including those of the Vatican, believes any of that. If they did, they would out and shame pedophiles with extreme prejudice. The God delusion is used to attain and maintain power and access to resources. Nothing more.

Edit: I understand some people earnestly need their faith, so that’s why I think religion should just be a private thing. But religion and religious belief of any kind needs to removed from serious public discourse and policymaking. Enough is enough.

Idaho, now pedophile friendly. Is this really what you want your state motto to be???

ThePantser , in Hackers may have stolen the Social Security numbers of all Americans. Here's what to know.
@ThePantser@lemmy.world avatar

Can we just pass a law or act that allows a person to discharge any debt they deem fraudulent? Like if it is known the person had their data leaked and they are signed up for something sketchy we should be able to legally and for free dispute that account/charge/service and have it stricken from our life. To prevent someone from just taking advantage of it though it should also automatically change your SSN or other personal ID number and freeze other accounts that are legit until they are paid in full. Most people would need to use this service at most once in their lifetime.

SpacePirate ,

This is already the case, it’s not a law, but contracts. You’re not in fact a party to the agreement, so you’re not beholden to the terms.
