This really is terrible. People should be allowed to support rapists in positions of authority without fear of being judged. We should all try to be more like the pope.
What's actually going on is a little bit more subtle, I think.
The people supporting him mostly don't know he's a rapist. They don't know he wants to throw his opponents in prison or kill them. All they see is this incredible opposition to him from people they know, and it just confuses them, because the news they consume doesn't tell them any of that. And so, they don't know what the big deal is, and so they just don't talk about it and plan to vote for Trump sort of quietly.
And, human nature being what it is, if it does come up in conversation, everyone talking to this guy assumes the underlying picture in everyone else's head is equal to the picture in their own, and so of course this person is already aware that Trump's a criminal rapist treasonous shitbag who's dumber than rocks, and just supports him anyway, and so they react with arguing and hostility instead of doing the much harder work of building a shared understanding and engaging in a dialogue that they know isn't going to resolve into anyone's mind changing on the first day.
It's easy to decide that someone's fully aware of the facts and they're just a huge piece of shit with how they reach judgements off the same facts you have, and you need to yell at them. That's rarely how it works though (although, sometimes, yes.) The much more difficult and more successful path is to understand where they're coming from and how they got to their wrong judgement, and try to work with them to help understand things better even if they're being hostile or what they currently think is wrong as hell.
I think it’s a bit more cut and dry. This late in the game, nobody that’s going to vote doesn’t already know about Trump and all of his controversies. Whether or not they get the facts from the news they consume, they’ve already been confronted with the ugly truth in some way at some point.
If they are still “not aware” that he’s a rapist, a violence proliferator, a traitor, or a fucking idiot, it just proves they are WILLFULLY ignorant. Which is no excuse.
They don’t get a free pass just because they actively ignore facts. It’s safe to assume they support Trump over literally anyone else specifically because he has these evil qualities.
Pre January 6th tolerating their personal delusion was dangerous but still somewhat tolerable. Post January 6th they are an imminent danger to themselves and everyone else.
It is incredible that even after 6th of January happened, there are still thousands of americans voting for Trump.
What the fuck was even the goal of 6th of January? Like, even if they succeed on getting inside and grabbing the pieces of paper or whatever made the election official, then what? Were they really expecting the entire country, military and world to just go like “damn, guys, you win. I guess Trump is our president now” ??? How the fuck?
The corporate mass media has turned them into martyrs for many of these people. They largely obscured the truth opting for sensationalism and pedaling bias confirmation. To willing addicts Restless for their next fix. Last reality come bleeding back in and they be forced to face it.
There were monsters in Nazi germany. Many of the average citizens were not monsters themselves. But it’s still amazing the atrocities a person can commit. When manipulated this way. If you were ever one of those people that wondered how normal people could do with the Nazis did. We are all starting to understand far too well.
I got into a discussion about wilful ignorance and the right with my girlfriend a couple months ago. Me calling them wilful ignorant was my compromise cause at this point the facts are out there and there’s no good reason to vote for him beyond you being evil. It’s extremely easy to fact check those facts you hear about the guy you wanna vote for.
They know and don’t care. And even if they’re in denial, they continue to deny, despite being proven over and over again. They call it fake news, deep fakes, or just flat out say [a thing that happened] just never happened.
Just watch anything from Pretty Little Liars or Daily Show etc. interviews with people at his rallies.
I think there’s a difference between knowing but not caring and not believing it. I know plenty of people who support Trump despite his awful history but I also know plenty more who thinks all the bad press is a lie.
This doesn’t absolve them in any way but you’re not gonna change anyone’s mind in the latter camp by telling them “you know he’s bad, you just don’t care”. And before you say it’s not worth trying, I successfully convinced two different coworkers who voted Trump in 2016 to actually look into the accusations and both voted 3rd party in 2020
My fiancé was on the phone with her mother yesterday, explaining Project 2025 to her, and her mother literally said, “Oh, Trump wouldn’t go along with all that. He used to be a Democrat, so he’s petty liberal for a Republican.”
Calling someone a racist for refusing to provide service to a black person is hate speech, punishable by 5 years of prison with mandatory prison labor.
Don’t Worry! All these people upset about the Attempted Assassination were EQUALLY upset when someone attempted to Assassinate Nancy Pelosi or when Trump told people to Assassinate Hilary Clinton or when Republicans SHOT UP SCHOOLS AND KILLED CHILDREN to Stop the Libruls Inside!
I find it odd that Biden is apparently unqualified to be the nominee, and thus president, but he is currently the president. Why are there no calls for him to resign?
The difference is that being the nominee and potentially being elected again would entail 4 more years of being the president. It is possible to believe that Biden is currently capable enough to finish out this term while also believing that he is showing signs which indicate he might not be fit for another 4 years.
Because he gave so few press conferences that people didn’t know what a vegetable he was. The failure of his mental capacity over the last year or two was carefully hidden from the public by his administration.
The calls for him to step down are the calls for him to resign.
Because he’s 81, and soon to be 82 in november. Getting him to january shouldn’t be a big deal. Getting him to January 2029 however, he’ll be 86. Can you name anything that might be not unexpected to happen to someone who is in their 80s? Why do you think a man who will be 86 when he leaves office (assuming he wins again) will still be operating at this same level now? Hell, he couldn’t get through a debate with trump a few weeks ago without clearly being an old person.
Presidenting can be done by cabinet activity with decisions during specified times of day and delegated decision making during other times. Campaigning cannot.
Plus, if Harris becomes president her VP would need to be confirmed, which requires Republicans, and if it wasn’t, we’re one assassination away from President Mike Johnson.
There were but they were quickly hushed by the adults in the room because there is a VP and she might be the one to replace him on the campaign trail. So they didn’t need smoke on the field.
Used them once, would have again, but no longer. Haven’t tried these guys yet but someone recommended www.vinyldisorder.com as an alternative in a different post. They seem well reviewed.
I haven’t really dove into his career but everything I heard about him is shockingly positive. I doubt it’ll happen but that will be the easiest vote of my life unless some shady stuff comes to light
It is embarrassing that American politics have become such a selfish individual vehicle for well intentioned leaders that end up corrupted the instance they join the upper tiers of our current national government.
It is why neither party can present a better alternative candidate to a government that was built on the hopes of retaining an integrity to prevent the current shit show of a short term power grab happening now.
While Americans are robbed of over half their hard earned income, our leaders don’t even care that we know they are stuffing their pockets to take away another one of our protections or weaken the dollar or screw over the working class to further extend their margins while keeping this well oiled system running uninterrupted with them staying at the top.
Why are we settling for mediocrity, as the greatest economy in the world, in how our government is run? It is a puppet show at this point, our government seems like an archaic joke when measured up to what should be expected from modern humans who will work nearly a third of their life under the current system.
We deserve better than to be treated as uneducated fools while our protections and quality of life slowly diminish at everyones expense except the ruling class. We are the fools thinking voting into an already corrupted system will change what is wrong at its fundamental level.
Corporate mass media does make it possible. There’s still plenty of blame on their part for lacking the interest or critical thinking skills to understand why other people are upset. But it is a thing that can exist. That doesn’t make it acceptable.
But short of returning the media to a pre 1980 state. Which was still wildly imperfect and heavily propagandized. There isn’t a peaceful or obvious solution to this.
Its amazing how the police can be terrified hyper-reactionary cowards, and can use that as justification for murder.
but the bog standard citizenry have to be upright, with 100% control over every single muscle in their body and thought in their head, while showing the more discipline than the most seasoned military official during an inspection, without a single ounce of fear, hesitation, or doubt, Or else we get brutalized and/or shot.
The only time I used Sticker Mule was when someone (I don’t remember exactly) was giving out free unix stickers, so I ordered some. I’ve been getting promotional emails from them ever since but did not get this, although I don’t recall if I ever gave them a phone number when I ordered the stickers.
Saved you a click: The Vermont senator said Musk has done “an exceptional job of demonstrating a point that we have made for years—and that is the fact we live in an oligarchic society.”
