This is insane pressure on Biden to step down. I hope it gets through to him. I dread to think of what happens with such division in the party going into the nomination process.

I don’t have time to do the research, but its not clear to me that a situation where the incumbent president and presumptive nominee is being asked to step down by effectively ALL of the rest of party leadership, with only the fringe block (progressives) maintaining support.
I think i can recall a vaguely similar situation with maybe Grover Cleveland and the mugwumps? And iirc that was all about currency (gold vs silver vs fiat vs a historical aside: land based currency; worth reading on)…
The norm sucks. The fucking norm got us into this mess by discouraging people from primarying a sitting president. If we’d had a robust primary we’d either be fully on board with Biden or we’d have dropped him already.

The democrats need a massive shot in the arm to even have a shot at this point, replacing Biden or naught. The assassination attempt provided a kind of rallying cry for MAGA/ Trumpers that polling won’t capture. Polling is good at capturing the distribution of demographics, but what it misses is how “activated” those demographics are. And boy-howdy, do Trumps key demographics seem activated. Possibly the most activated they’ve ever been, maybe even more-so than post 2020/J6.
If things don’t change massively, and even then, its a super difficult path for Democrats to come back from the situation that Blue MAGA has set up.
Maybe the AOC/ Bernie triangulation is setting up for throwing AOC onto the platform?
Harris/ AOC and the entire platform is: Women liberty and freedom of choice is our focus. If you elect us, our entire focus will be a constitutional amendment supporting a woman’s right to choose. Harris can activate the African American community. Women & the African American community to get NC & GA (maybe?). Let Harris or AOC put out better rhetoric on Gaza and WI/ MI/ MN can be back in play?

There have been some signficant and I think legitimate concerns that if any one but Harris replaces Biden, African Americans, specificially African American women will see this her VP pick as having been purely performative, when its widely acknowledged that Africian American women, specifically, helped deliver Biden the white house.
I think its a legitimate concern and I have no problem with Harris as candidate. Literally any one has a better shot than Joe Biden at this point. Editorially, I think a double woman progressive ticket could be the thing that gets the car back on the road, but I truly do not give a shit. I don’t care if its Andy Beshear. Anyone and everyone would be doing better than Joe Biden is currently.

Raises have nothing to do with inflation or cost of living. Companies that pin raises to those things are severely underpaying employees and hoping they don’t seek greener pastures.
Market rates set compensation. The best way to know your market rate is to find a new job.
People are lucky to get a raise at all. Much less 5%, usually it’s 1 or 2. For at least a decade the only way to significantly increase your pay has been to move jobs.
Living in Hawthorne myself (the place SpaceX is in now) I don’t get the sense it’s doing the city all that good. I think they get major tax breaks or something, since the area is pretty run down except for it’s immediate area. It’s fairly industrial / commercial but there’s a closed down mall, boarded up shops, etc.
I hope this is a punch in the gut the fools running the city need to start dealing with it’s real problems. :/

I knew nothing about them before this. But I have a number of friends who are independent creators. And this was one of the more talked about thing for the last several days. One of them had never used the company and never will. And the rest have already found less fascist alternatives. So you aren’t alone. I feel kind of bad for their non-fascist employees if they actually exist. And I wish them luck on their future fash free endeavors.
I’m open to alternative options. Sticker Mule made great stickers, but is apparently a fundamentally anti democratic organization under the hood and willing to put Project 2025 in place to destroy the Republic.

Don’t know that I could be pumped for Harris unless she pulls off some kind of “Crouching Empty Suit, Hidden Visionary” shit, but I could be pumped for her VP. Unfortunately, I suspect she’ll choose a ‘moderate’ old white Dem guy as her VP to ‘balance out’ that she’s an ethnic minority and a woman.
Political: Someone with progressive ideas in the White House to represent that portion of the party. Probably not going to happen.
Capability: Someone who feels like a particularly competent messenger with some fight in them. It would be nice to have some Democrats who can competently and accurately tear up this whole fiasco of a political movement. This could happen.
Him just retiring in favor of Harris or whoever? Better. Still absolutely horseshit considering no one seriously put their hat in the ring for the convention but whatever gets a president that supports universal healthcare and isn’t sunsetting.

Party leaders and mega donors seem to have coalesced around Harris. So if it happens it’ll be quick. I sincerely hope he’s actually healthy and this is a managed exit.
