Grandwolf319 , in After Supreme Court immunity ruling, Biden draws sharp contrast with Trump on obeying rule of law

About a month ago I made this comment about Biden jailing trump:

sh.itjust.works/comment/11668328

People downvoted at the time but I knew the writing was on the wall. We were always gonna arrive here in 4 years.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

Trump wouldn’t be the first candidate to campaign from jail.

Not even the second.

Toastypickle , in Giuliani disbarred in NY as court finds he repeatedly lied about Trump’s 2020 election loss

Only the president can do that Rudy.

Devdogg , in Instances of anti-LGBTQ vandalism reported in nearly two dozen states during Pride Month

You’re goddamn right I’m going to pick up a pride flag!! (that’s my take away from the end of the article.)

d00phy , in Giuliani disbarred in NY as court finds he repeatedly lied about Trump’s 2020 election loss

Can I just say,

FUCKING FINALLY!

Beetschnapps ,

Like I can see the wheels of justice turning slowly…

…but why can’t justice observe its own ethics a little bit faster than that?

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

They did. The license was suspended in 2021. The actual finalnsteps of the proces allows everyone to be heard.

SeattleRain , in In Georgia, conservatives seek to have voters removed from rolls without official challenges

And Dems will do nothing, nothing I say. Ahahahaha

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

What would you have them do?

BigPotato ,

Well, the president can officially send the Seals after them, all enemies foreign and domestic and all that, so that’s the ceiling of responses I guess.

Gakomi , in Conspiracy Theorists Think Biden Was Hit With Directed-Energy Weapons During Debate

Hmm not sure if that’s a bad thing, don’t get me wrong I’m all pro choice but those pills have a lot of cancer side effects. Frankly I think you should go to the doctor and do it there then use pills that can give you cancer or make you sterile, then again that’s my opinion.

Gerudo , in Trump asks for conviction to be overturned after immunity ruling

Since the case was brought and tried before the ruling, how is the ruling retroactive?

Treczoks ,

Not only that, the crime happened way before he was president.

Chocrates ,

The Prosecutors used evidence from when Trump was in office so that makes the ruling apply. It’s so dumb

themeatbridge ,

But the evidence isn’t immune.

Makeitstop ,

The ruling wasn’t just that you can’t charge the president with crimes related official acts. It also said that you can’t use official acts as evidence. Since the case included evidence from the time when Trump was president, they want it thrown out because apparently that shouldn’t be admissible because fuck you.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t wait to see how none of this applies to Biden.

TokenBoomer ,

JD Vance has already said immunity doesn’t apply to Biden.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Shocking.

Zannsolo ,

Doesn’t seem like an official act to me

Wrench ,

But I believe the concern, and the entire reason prosecutors are allowing the delay, is that all evidence from the time Trump was president has become “privileged” and now may need to be individually approved as admissible.

This evidence was signing hush money checks while he was president, apparently.

foggy ,

And is in now way official business…

anon_8675309 ,

But that’s the kicker. SCOTUS, ultimately, gets to decide what is official and what is not.

tiefling ,

So you think SCROTUS gives a single fuck? They start with a ruling first then work backwards to justify it.

Phoonzang ,

“All the riches of these lands are mine, all of Gastown is MINE!” Scabrous Scrotus, yeah, sounds about right.

SeattleRain ,

Because he was running for President. Can’t be President unless you run so that counts as an official act too.

PanArab , in After Supreme Court immunity ruling, Biden draws sharp contrast with Trump on obeying rule of law

Except for this law.

IANAL, he is probably breaking other laws too.

xmunk , in 75 percent of voters think Democrats have a better shot without Biden: poll

Unfortunately, none of that 75% is the portion of the population that can force that to happen… that doesn’t mean we should stop bitching though.

Omegamanthethird ,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Both candidates lose to a generic 3rd candidate. That was true even before the debate. The problem is finding a generic 3rd candidate that people agree on.

Truth is, the only person I can think of with enough name recognition that might bring enough support from progressives, moderates, and centrists this late is maybe Pete Buttigieg. But I wouldn’t bet on it. Biden needs to use every moment from here until November to get in front of people to show that the debate was an outlier.

xmunk ,

I’d love to put Senator Whitehouse up as an alternative - climate change needs to be the priority.

Article doesn’t really go into how TLOxp can dox/unmask people.

@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

Probably because it’s proprietary to TransUnion. Needless to say it’s powerful and thorough.

treadful ,
@treadful@lemmy.zip avatar

Needless to say it’s powerful and thorough.

I mean, this does need to be said. It’s important details I was hoping to learn from the article. Otherwise it’s spooky stories we can’t actually build defenses for.

Spiralvortexisalie ,

If you are American you essentially have no defense short of going completely off the grid. TLOXP PROVIDES ACCESS TO:

  • Data on over 95% of the U.S. population
  • 350 million Social Security numbers
  • Over 225 million employment records
  • 4 billion phone records
  • 4 billion address records
  • 90 million adult Millennials age 18–36 Source, they also sell license plate reader data, and your actual driving data if you have a newer vehicle.
treadful ,
@treadful@lemmy.zip avatar

Then I guess “dox” in this context is resolving your name to other PII? I originally read it as more of a way to unmask people online.

Spiralvortexisalie ,

Among the search parameters available, include IP address, social media profiles, and phone numbers, so it is definitely possible to unmask someone online, but their bread and butter is credit information which now a days includes everything about you (ever wonder how they make security questions to verify you off “public records”?)

cygnus , in 75 percent of voters think Democrats have a better shot without Biden: poll
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

A majority of Democrats and left-leaning independents, 56 percent, said the party is more likely to win in November without Biden, according to the poll.

So the other 19% are Republicans who know this would guarantee a Democratic loss? lmao

Replacing Biden is suicide at this point.

xmunk ,

I think you’re misreading statistics… if 75% of voters think Biden is an impairment and only 56% of left leaning voters think Biden is an impairment then, assuming they equally sampled right and left leaning voters, that means nearly all conservatives think Biden is an impairment.

cygnus ,
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

You’re right. That’s even worse. If ~100% of Republicans want him gone, that’s all the more reason to keep him aboard.

xmunk ,

I don’t know if I fully agree with that - I assume GOPers hold that belief mostly for the wrong reasons (probably some BS about “Biden crime family”). But the majority of liberals think it’s a bad idea to keep him on, and we should have a discussion about that.

Good catch! Came back to edit after the article was updated, and posted the whole thing by mistake.

givesomefucks , in 75 percent of voters think Democrats have a better shot without Biden: poll

A majority of Democrats and left-leaning independents, 56 percent, said the party is more likely to win in November without Biden, according to the poll.

In a head-to-head match-up, Trump holds a 6-point lead over Biden nationally, which is the same lead as in April’s CNN poll.

It’s not even personal anymore. Or about if Biden would be a good president or not.

He doesn’t have the support to beat Trump. And trump is too dangerous to risk a candidate people don’t like.

For fucks sake, Biden might be the first Dem to lose the popular vote in decades. Because of the electoral college there’s no way for a Dem to carry enough states without the popular vote. Republicans get away with it because of small shitty red states.
