Custoslibera OP ,

Thanks for this, reading now.

I’ve also been busy reading the history of the rise of the Nazi party particularly the SA.

It’s scary (scary is not a strong enough word for the combined emotions of frustration, anger, fear, anxiety) how close current USA events are replicating the original rise of Nazi Germany.

lichtmetzger ,

Even current German events are replicating the rise of Nazi Germany. But many people are too blind to see…

Cryseronix ,

Yeah, it’s so sad. Before inflation and all the other shit, nobody cared about fascist, but now they’re like

“Oh hey, that are so easy solutions to my severe Problems, I don’t care if they discriminate a minority or a group of people. Let’s vote them!”

Just to realize that they would change nothing - they will make it worser - and install slowly but surely their fucking pervert dictatorship.

Vrtrx ,

to my severe problems

You mean the problems the fascist just made up and actually aren’t a really problem

It’s happening in France too. Are the fascists roaming the streets to beat leftists and Arabs in your country too?

Oiconomia OP ,

There is a consumerist TikTok craze for some expensive type of thermocup by the company Stanley.. It was also found to contaminate drinks with lead.

perishthethought ,

And these three ladies were in a skit on the US comedy TV show Saturday Night Live which was about that thermos hype.

rab ,
@rab@lemmy.ca avatar

Up until now I thought it was the same Stanley that makes tools which was making no sense to me

InputZero ,

Adding to that, Stanley Tumblers have become the latest status symbol for children as well as adults. So it’s not uncommon for a child to get bullied because their water bottle isn’t a Stanley Tumbler.

devfuuu ,

The fact that people think they need a water bottle in school is crazy weird.

sour ,
@sour@kbin.social avatar

school only having water bottle filler

MBM ,

… that’s like the least weird part to me, how else are you going to drink?

Bene7rddso ,

They do need one, but a plastic bottle from the vending machine is good enough

BreadOven ,

As far as I know, they didn’t show to actually contaminate drinks. There’s just lead in places where it doesn’t come into contact with the drink. The lawsuit is for not disclosing this information. Or at least that’s how the article reads.

Edit: it was in California, where it’s mandatory to say whether or not the product has lead (and probably other things) in it.

devfuuu ,

This seems a good filter irl to avoid people that clearly are too addicted to tiktok.

Yax ,

Your article contains a statement from Stanley: “no lead is present on the surface of any Stanley product that comes into contact with the consumer nor the contents of the product.” I don’t find anything supporting your claim that the cups were “found to contaminate drinks with lead.” Am I missing something?

Cheesus ,

You’re not wrong. They use lead to seal the vacuum. You will only be contaminated with lead if it gets damaged. Most other big popular brands moved away from lead to glass sealing years ago citing worker health and potential lead exposure if they get damaged.

jol ,

Ah, so my poisonous drinking cup is only poisonous if I use it a little too rough?

Bene7rddso ,

To me it’s wild that a cup mafe in 2024 contains lead at all

CluckN ,

There’s a company called Stanley that has been treating thermos releases like designer sneaker drops. Imagine the Hydroflask hype but limited releases causing high demand.

bartolomeo , in When you are privileged equality looks like a downgrade.
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

It’s funny because extending rights to marginalized people does not by any means diminish the rights of the privileged.

dangblingus ,

Turns out, the cruelty of knowing you have more rights than others was part of the fun the whole time.

bartolomeo ,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

No doubt that’s appealing to some (one example is the USA civil rights movement in the 1960s, especially with states conforming to federal laws that mandate desegregation of schools) but I think another advantage for the privileged is the lack of competition for good jobs, study places etc… If 50% of your peers are kept in slums then just by biological outcomes (lack of nutrition and sleep) the odds are very much in your favor. Throw in the psychological effects of poverty, mass incarceration, addiction and you have a situation like a running race where half the contestants have a broken leg. Fear of a level playing field might be another factor in why the privileged don’t want equal rights. BUT, imagine if we had 50% more people working on a cure for cancer etc.

ShaggySnacks ,

But, but, but…I am winning everything. Can’t let those marginalized communities beat me. I’ve been told everything is a zero sum game! I say in the most whiny, navel voice. The kind of the voice that makes your soul shiver up and die

For those who you are wondering, the above comment was dripping in sarcasm. Human Rights are not a zero sum game. When marginalized communities prosper, we all better off as a society.

MissJinx ,
@MissJinx@lemmy.world avatar

that’s true but my cat HAVE to watch me while I shower. If I close the door and leave her outside she’ll scream like someone is breaking her bones. I’m seriously afraid someone is going to call ASPCA, so I just carry her to the bathroom when I’m going to take a shower or I’ll have to stop mid-shower to open the door.

ramius345 ,

fruitSnackSupreme ,

Is pi hole any better than using adguard DNS?

shasta ,

It’s the same technology, like how chrome and Firefox are.

vox , (edited )
@vox@sopuli.xyz avatar

pihole uses the same method of blocking as adguard dns but is more configurable, and since it’s usually self-hosted you have full control over it.

btw, nextdns is pretty good too (think of it as a managed configurable, slightly more private alternative to adguard dns, great if you’re not into self hosting).
it lacks custom domain blocklists tho. you can add your own white/blacklisted domains but not whole lists, except ones provided by nextdns.
also, it’s a paid service. free tier includes 300k requests per month, which is enough for ~1.5 devices from my experience.
