I don’t disagree with your criticisms of the UN. They’re not a perfect organization, and UN membership shouldn’t be some standard of sovereignty. However, diplomats have always been able to talk whenever they want, the problem that the League of Nations and then the UN tried to address was all the backrooms conversations nations used to have that were part of the causes that lead up to the first world war. Having an international platform every nation needs to at least listen to is better than the alternative. Arguably, untill now the UN has succeeded, there hasn’t been a WWIII.

I’m typing this on a device that I carry around with me all day, who’s entire purpose is to collect as much data as possible and deliver it back to the company I bought it from. Robotics can be dangerous, don’t jump into the deep end of robotics without learning how to use electronics first. Definitely start with electronics and move up to robotics once you have a lot of electronic failures under your belt. I would suggest that you keep robotics in mind as you learn.

Many people provided you with great places to start with electronics. Start there, because robotics are electronics with motion and that’s more dangerous. Motion can hurt someone or start a fire. Especially for as a hobby I’d be most concerned about accidentally starting a fire because of bad code and poor failure planning.

If you pick this up and get some experience with electronics, you’ll begin to understand a lot of the things that can go wrong with robotics before they start a fire. Also this can get very expensive, you will destroy components. It’s inevitable. I may be speaking from experience.

All of them, but I’m also unemployed and looking for work. I can’t let me not answering my phone to be the reason I get passed over for a job. More often than not it’s a spam call but I can’t afford to let an opportunity for an interview go. It sucks, before this I would barely answer the phone for known contacts. I recently had the realization that I’ve just been putting up with Windows bullshit forever recently when a friend asked me for help with their work PC. They’re a Mac user, but they just started working from home and have been provided a Windows laptop. They sent me a bunch of rushed texts when their headset stopped working. They changed the default audio device after they launched the program. Which never works on a Windows PC. I never have that problem because I have just learned to live with it, I don’t even think about it anymore.

Now I’m really starting to notice all the little things I put up with from Windows on my machine. To be fair my Linux machine is just as janky but at least I can say I made it that way. I keep telling myself to ‘tidy’ my Linux machine up but I never do, it still plays games just fine. Usually. If I didn’t fuck with it.

Actually most “responsible” jobs won’t drug test because it becomes too difficult to find people who are experienced enough to take on that responsibility. If they did they wouldn’t be able to staff a shift. As long as they’re well enough to do their work everyone will look the other way.

On the other hand, jobs where the employee is easily replaceable will be more likely to be drug tested. There are people literally begging for the chance at a paycheck. It’s not really about safety or morals and more about employers maintaining authority over employees.

Part of me thinks it’s propaganda not bargaining power. On several occasions the IDF has dropped bombs on or shot the hostages accidentaly wontonly. We put ourselves into their world and view it with our standards of today, because we don’t want to think we could do the same now that we know better. Some piece of very modern technology that floats. I think Wilson in the movie represents Hank’s character’s last grasp at a shred of civilization, so he holds onto it as hard as he can. They are not the only person who uses the words for each other. When I was doing my undergrad I found that myself and my fellow students used them pretty loosely goosey. As a native English speaker I’ve never had any difficulty telling which way a speaker intended labor and work to mean. The context provided enough. I can see how for people who are not native English speakers, but this isn’t an academic institution. In casual conversation either or are appropriate.

So this doesn’t apply to the Intel situation, but a good lesson to learn is that the bleeding edge cuts both ways. Meaning that anyone buying the absolute latest technology, there’s going to be some friction with usability at first. It should never surmount to broken hardware like the Intel CPUs, but buggy drivers for a few weeks/months is kinda normal. There’s no way of knowing what’s going to happen when a brand new product is going to be released. The producer must do their due diligence and test for anything catastrophic but weird things happen in the wild that no one can predict. Like I said at the top, this doesn’t apply to Intel’s situation because it was a catastrophic failure, but if you’re ever on the bleeding edge assume eventually you’re going to get cut.

Yeah you realize that Democracy is much larger than the United States of America. Many democracies around the world, which have been historically regarded as stable democracies, don’t have a separate election for their top leader. That’s a pretty American thing. Most democratic top leaders are selected by the ruling party, not the electorate. It’s just assumed that your vote about who is top leader is rolled into your vote for your local representative for that level of government.

The rest of the world looked at that and thought ‘and? What’s the problem? We do that shit all the time and it works out.’ Granted most democratic world leaders don’t have as many powers granted to them as the United States grants their President but still. In a bigger perspective it’s not a big deal.

Anyone who says electric cars aren’t there are making inaccurate statements at best and at worst are telling non-factual ones. The truth isn’t that electric cars aren’t ready, is that the energy distribution isn’t ready. Only urbanized areas are prepared to offer that much energy at scale and living in an urbanized area you shouldn’t need a personal vehicle for most of your travels anyway.

Side note, this is why I think plug-in-hybrids are the baby step we need to achieve first. Even with their obvious flaws they fill the gap between an internal combustion engine and full electric.

Corruption in politics was described to me once as the grease that keeps the cogs of government turning. The importance difference is what type of grease is used. A government with low corruption uses a small amount of very clean grease, just enough, and only in the right places, to make the sticky gears turn. A government with high corruption will just drench every gear with very dirty crude oil, and if the gears seizes up they won’t even notice.

In an ideal world the machine of government wouldn’t need any corrupt grease or oil to keep turning but no one truely lives in that world, yet.

That would be my plan B. Plan A would be turn up my politeness and niceness knobs up for a little while. Maybe they’re going through a rough time and it’s temporary. After a sufficient amount of time to ensure it’s not an anomaly, then go for the direct conversation. It usually pays off to give the other person the benefit of the doubt for a little bit, but not forever. It stopped me from being so reactive.
