Mexican food never gives me the shits, is this just a meme promoted by people who never get enough fiber?

dumbcrumb ,

Yea Im pretty sure all the people who talk about mexican food and tacobell giving them shits just have shit diets. Ive never had these problems either.

FartsWithAnAccent ,
@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

Even Taco Bell doesn’t usually give me the shits, unless I drink soda from one of those nasty ass dispensers fast food joints regularly neglect cleaning.

BCsven ,

There were some social media posts about taco bell management telling workers to still serve the food that was marked as expired, so the shits might be compromised food ingredients.

FartsWithAnAccent ,
@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

This is a real risk at pretty much any fast food place and plenty of regular restaurants. Gotta keep an eye on how the management runs stuff (or just make your own food).

BCsven ,

Since COVID we have made 99% of our food from scratch (i.e. making my own thai curry paste from scratch, grinding my own spices, etc)…I’m now almost always very disappointed by meals outside the home…especially with the price hikes.

FartsWithAnAccent ,
@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, $15 for a shitty burger and cold fries? No thanks.

JohnDClay ,

I’m guessing some Mexican fast food places also don’t have the greatest sanitary conditions, so are more likely to give you the poops.

@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

Grumpy ,

I feel like it’s more rooted in racism than actually foods. Plenty of other cuisines have more fiber and more spices. Mexican isn’t really special in its ingredients or it’s preps.

Then why specific hate for mexican? I really can’t come with any answer than racism.

Internet is weird. Some stereotypes and racism are easily accepted and considered funny.

EnderMB ,

As a long-time IBS sufferer, I’m always happy to see memes about getting the shits, because it makes me feel less alone.

You don’t need to see what’s going on in a washing machine either, yet the fun window is usually included. Maybe washing machines were invented before paid dlcs. Or a see through water splash machine looks bad in a kitchen.

This was the final straw that pushed me to using stuff like piped and libretube exclusively.

I watched an interesting video about the cobra effect and think at least in my case, its relevant

Sylvartas ,

Yeah I jumped ship to piped too because of this. I also discovered it allows me to circumvent region locks without even firing up my VPN which is a nice bonus

punseye ,

How to make this work? I want to watch videos from a channel that makes them available only for UK, I want to watch it in India.

Sylvartas ,

Idk I just went to a channel that I know for a fact only allows you to purchase the videos if you’re watching from France, but I was able to watch all the videos for free because they are not restricted outside of France. I think it’s supposed to work automatically if your piped instance has access to instances that are hosted in countries where the videos are unrestricted

So in your case it should work if you go through an instance that is hosted in the UK

So one thing I’ve started getting worried about is whether youtube/google will eventually block/delete youtube/google accounts who use adblockers.

I don’t really care about my youtube account but I have several gmail accounts and losing those would be awful.

I assume they won’t ever go that far, but just the possibility is scary.

So is there an easy way to migrate all your stuff to some other email service and what are some good ones?

scrubbles ,
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

I’ve been worried about the same. I’m slowly moving my email and all accounts over my own domain name which for now is forwarded onto the same Gmail. Seems like an extra hop but if they block me then all I have to do is point my email somewhere else

TeddE ,
@TeddE@lemmy.world avatar

I’m trying out Purely Mail. Unlimited email addresses across unlimited custom domains.

I have a cool setup where I have setup an email account at [email protected], but it’s setup as a catchall for *@service.mydomain.tld (and allows gmail-style tagging). This means I can fill out service forms by inventing addresses on the fly like [email protected] and the email shows up in one unified inbox, the subject line will include [LemonadeStand], and the message will have the flag ‘Signup’.

scrubbles ,
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

I’ll check it out!

helenslunch ,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

I mean there are a myriad of ways to avoid this:

  1. Log out
  2. Use container tabs or profiles in your favorite browser
  3. Use dedicated apps like FreeTube, GrayJay, NewPipe, Invidious, LibreTube, etc. that don’t even ask for a login.

So is there an easy way to migrate all your stuff to some other email service and what are some good ones?

So you can set up a free Proton Mail account and then connect it to your Google account and it will begin archiving all of your emails, past and future. It also has a way better web client than Gmail (not saying much).

Sleestak_Chaka ,

helenslunch ,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

It’s an unfortunate arbitrary limitation Apple puts on their devices.

Swarfega ,

I know this is because Google indexes your mail but search is far superior on Gmail to Proton. I’ve downloaded the indexes from Proton on my home PC but search is still not good for searching email content.

helenslunch ,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Proton indexes your mail also now and I’ve had the exact opposite experience. Gmail and G Workspace in general is a fucking shitshow to find absolutely anything.

RQG ,
@RQG@lemmy.world avatar

Good point. I guess I’ll slowly get ready for the dreaded migration away from Gmail.

Azzu ,

Not an “easy” way, but what I’ve been doing is simply whenever I handle an email in the account I want to switch from, I use that particular situation to change the email in the settings of the account of whatever I’m handling in that moment.

That way it doesn’t become an overwhelming task, and if you are consistent with it and do it each time you handle an email, slowly but surely you will have switched completely.

Cinner Bot ,

Proton is probably the slickest, most feature-rich and solid email service. They have a suite… Mail, VPN, Calendar, etc. I pay like $50 yearly for it, which gives a lot of extra settings. But even in the free account there is a “convert from Gmail” option that downloads all of your Gmail emails into your proton account. It’s the easiest way to degoogle. Plus, all proton-to-proton email is automatically PGP encrypted, even if you use custom domains. You can easily setup auto PGP for other external services that offer it too, so emails are seamlessly encrypted between them.

This short guide gets you up and running with Proton Mail if you are transferring your files from Gmail. You can seamlessly move the emails, attachments, calendars, and contacts you have stored in your Gmail account to Proton Mail and Proton Calendar

I use a YouTube channel account, which might be good enough. I’ve had one in the past banned and the rest of my Google account was left alone.

(I was only just getting into creating programs that communicate with online services and I hammered their API. My program didn’t have any checks and balances to ensure it wouldn’t go over it or to throttle back when the API endpoint attempts tell it to calm down. It only happened once but that was good enough to get it banned)

Marin_Rider ,

XTornado ,

Yeah… but some people wish for more finished games and that includes performance.

Like I get it it’s playable… and some games release in much worse state but unless it’s an indie game with zero money that needs that early money to continue they should wait.

arc ,

A company like Paradox should certainly be able afford testers who run the game on a variety of configurations to see if optimization is necessary.

One thing I would say and this is a broad statement - generally you don’t do optimization unless you know you need it. And you only do it after the thing you’re writing is working correctly non-optimally. Optimize too soon, or when you don’t need to just makes code an unmaintainable mess. That doesn’t doesn’t preclude writing efficient code in the first place but efficient is not the same thing as optimal.

verysoft , (edited )

Why pay for testing when consumers will happily pay the developers to do it? They will even defend your unfinished product for free!

hubobes ,

I am absolutely with you there. I do not like the fact that the performance is pretty bad. But a game that „just“ has performance issues is potentially fixable. Games where the core gameplay loop is broken are usually not getting better over time.

And I will play City Skylines for years to come so buying it right now and playing with lower settings and less then stellar performance is fine and I will hopefully be able to increase these things over time.

I will see ppl going nearly 100mph in the interstate, just weaving back and forth between lanes. will never understand why ppl have to be in such a damn rush all the time. what's the point of getting somewhere 2 minutes sooner if you hurt or possibly kill someone along the way? worst part of it is that the cops here never seem to be around to keep assholes like that in check.

    capt_wolf ,

    Oh it’s constant here, and they all act like you’re the problem. So many fatal accidents every year, pedestrians killed, at least one fatality due to people racing. Constant hit and runs. It’s like driving in GTA.

    I just took a client to the mall a couple hours ago. On our way, we watched someone honk at the person next to me/in front of them at an intersection, they then tailgated them until the other person changed lanes, threw their drink, and screamed out the window. The driver’s crime, as far as I can tell, was because they didn’t move in the millisecond between when the light turned green and the psycho behind them lost their mind.

    We’re in the off season now, too. Don’t even get me started when the tourists come!

    hyperhearse ,
    @hyperhearse@kbin.social avatar

    plenty of hit and runs where I'm at also, especially for pedestrians. the amount of accidents even in just a week is scary. exactly! it's almost like driving the speed limit is the crime now. there's ppl who will pass on a non passing road just to get ahead of me bc I'm apparently driving too slowly. just the other day I got honked at bc the left turn light had just turned green, but the person in front of me hadn't even started turning yet. no one has a speck of patience on the road. I just want to know why lmao

    ffs, seriously? that's such an extreme response. and it's truly so mind blowing to me that there's ppl who view pedestrian life as secondary to getting where they need to be. I've seen drivers swerve past pedestrians as they're crossing and honk at them and everything. it's wild out here.

    I have lived my entire life in a urban city without any discrimination whatsoever, but I have also heard of rural places where they would literally burn people alive for intercaste marriage.

    One of the main reasons it’s not extinct yet is because people love to take “pride” in their caste. There are plenty of songs dedicated to “jatt” people, people of a higher caste. “Khatris” are often glorified in movies for fighting. You can see the problem is same as if white people started making songs on “being white and proud” and Britishers claiming victory in ww2 because they were “white”. It’s absurd and I have felt the pain but I am thankful for the present situation and I suppose it’s better than being burnt alive haha.

    Yes there is reservation and that’s absurd too, imagine if “black” people were allowed reservation for jobs in government.

    I may be wrong but i think it exists in some universities ( student wise). I vaguely remember several article about it

    snowraven ,

    It’s absurd if that’s true. Who would in their right mind believe this solves any racism? If anything it creates more segregation about races. It’s the social acceptance that minorities need not economic or education privilege. Sad times.

    I tried searching for the articles i read and found none. It may not even be real, I apologize.

    lurch ,
    Diabolo96 ,

    Thanks

    lurch ,

    The idea was to have races mixed together better and not have people from historically discriminated races get stuck in poverty because of lack of education. So, they tried to make sure there were some of them getting university degrees. It’s not completely absurd, but they just started it from the wrong end. They should have made sure the discriminated races who are underprevilleged had more help by helping all poor families, so their kids can focus on school better and it’s fair for poor people of the historically oppressive race, too.

    snowraven ,

    It makes sense, I agree but speaking from personal experience from India where this positive discrimination called reservation exists, just leads to horrible segregation, it flares up every now and then in people. People from high castes always curse the lower ones for not getting their “supposed government job” that they should have gotten. Such measures should be entirely based on economic status and not some birth status. I say this because I know plenty of rich but lower caste people who have terribly exploited this system.

    I also agree that in the end, matters relating to such birth statuses are complicated. If only humans could co exist all peacefully but alas.

We have wild turkeys too and they will roost on the clover and it leaves imprints in the ground but it springs back after a day or so.

    WillyWonksters , (edited )

    I couldn’t find a source for this, but I heard that we were convinced to think of dandelions as weeds by the makers of a herbicide so that we would accept the collateral damage.

    AngryMulbear ,

    Anecdotal evidence. There’s a patch of grass on my land next to a public mailbox that I struggled for years to keep from being a mud pit.

    IMALlama ,

    We have a chemical free yard that I also plant clover in. The high traffic areas are more clover than grass, which makes me think it holds up better. The clover also turns green earlier in the spring and stays green longer of we’re having a dry spell in the summer. Clover helps keep the grass happy and the pair seem to do a decent job keeping dandelions down, but we have them in our yard too. They don’t bother me at all personally and our kids like them. Thistles are not that common in our yard, but when they pop up I’ll spot treat them since they’re painful to walk on.
