I was visiting Ukraine for work for about a month. Me and my coworker found ourselves at a country bar… Bit weird. We were wasted. Dudes have ar 15s out front as bouncers. Too many drinks led to a five alarm fire in my bowels. The weird fish early on didn’t help I’m sure. Found a stall just in time. Unload. No toilet paper. I wiped with the local currency. I’m so ashamed to this day. This was around 2019. I’m a shit american.

Holding out for the Anne Frank Trapper Keeper phone.

afox ,

Shit. That’s a big oops. Been a very long day.

afox ,

Saddest day of my life not being able to get a hotdog without a card. Woman literally laughed in my face and said well if you’re too cheap… I wanted to go home and sic my wife on her. But I’m petty like that. A month a ago and I’m still so but hurt. Like why insult me and my finances?

That’s what the hidden fask is for. Grade A Cambodian breast milk.

afox ,

Old ass musty smelling paperback. 50’s and old racist 60’s sci-fi books smell best. I have a problem.

afox ,

I love you already. Favorite authors? Ray Bradbury and Arthur C Clark.

afox ,

I was a manager. It made me a bastard. I went back to coding.

How much did it cost to download all that RAM?

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

I appreciate this. Can I have a listen? I also make music… Sometimes.

Where I’m from smoke follows beauty. Americans are pretty vain.

In the immortal words of NOFX clams have feelings too.

Having lived in Kansas for 4 years… No. Kill me. I refuse to ever again.

I have a drone on offer up and some fool tried to convince me to trade for a flame thrower. Wtf am I going to do with a flame thrower? I guess I could vanquish my enemies… If I had any. People are weird.

afox ,

Tandy… Kings Quest. So good. California Games. I miss how simple life used to be.

afox ,

Are you me?

afox ,

TRS 80 sans disk drive. My school library and local library had BASIC programs in the books. I’m now a SR Software Engineer. Wild. My first phone couldn’t even text… Whatever it was.

afox ,

No. Tech is cheap. Don’t sell yourself short.

afox ,

Welp time to watch The Never Ending Story. Falcor 🫀

I was told as a child that the crunch was dead ants. Why any adult would ruin fig newtons for a kid is beyond me.

What're some of the dumbest things you've done to yourself in Linux?

I’m working on a some materials for a class wherein I’ll be teaching some young, wide-eyed Windows nerds about Linux and we’re including a section we’re calling “foot guns”. Basically it’s ways you might shoot yourself in the foot while meddling with your newfound Linux powers....

afox ,

sudo apt-get purge java* good lord what a simple thing to avoid. I was pretty green at work during the time :(

afox ,

But I love potato salad. It’s delicious.

Watchdogs 2. I’m getting to old for this. Recently killed Halo Infinite, Farcry 4 5 6 and some others. Software Engineer. Been unemployed for a bit :/

Started with Gentoo. Early 2000’s. 24 painful install. Moved to fedora shortly after. Keep going back between Arch and Ubuntu over the years. It’s all so easy and accessible now.

Which Life Pro Tip disappointed you?

For me it was “buy high quality pillow” because you sleep for one thrid of a day etc. I needed a new pillow anyway so I came to the store and bought the best they had. And it was … ok. Like it’s a fine pillow but my sleeping haven’t improved really, it’s basically the same. So I was disapointed :(...

afox ,

I tried this. Same problem. If I need to remember to do something I put it in google calendar as a task I need to check off at a specific time. Highly effective… for me anyway.

afox ,

Lived in a home for just under 4 years. Moved out of state. Several months later I get a vicious call demanding 2700 dollars usd for damaged carpet and a “smell”. I was young and dumb at the time and didn’t think I had any recourse. Being thousands of miles away and the threat of legal crap at a young age is daughting. Fuck landlords. We are very clean people.

afox ,

Your Safeway getting remodeled too? Why the F are the lunch meats crammed next to the lotions behind freezer doors that prevent people from passing if they’re open.

afox ,

As a software engineer I’ll never kill anyone with a bad practice or mistake. You right my G. You right.

Puts on my robe and wizard’s hat.

Seriously, though. How often do you think of the Roman Empire?

I know this is a joke/meme, but I sincerely think of the Roman Empire a surprising amount of times. I find myself obsessing over how Roman citizens were living just as complex lives as we are today, or about Marcus Aurelius’ life and philosophy, or about how the Republic fell and became a totalitarian state.

afox ,

… need you to elaborate on the concrete bit?

afox ,

Best Cool Dude. Roman Empire Dan. Such a Card.

afox ,

Love it. Was learning about the ancient city of Ur. They had like indoor plumbing and stuff. Humans are incredible when external factors don’t get in the way.
