Prosecutors say Alec Baldwin was ‘engaged in horseplay’ with gun before fatal shooting (www.theguardian.com)

Fewer than three weeks before actor Alec Baldwin is due to go on trial in Santa Fe, New Mexico, prosecutors have said that he “engaged in horseplay with the revolver”, including firing a blank round at a crew member on the set of Rust before the tragic accident occurred....

Is carbonated pasta sauce good? I’ve tried carbonated salad dressing. Are you a marinara sauce?

Willy ,

I couldn’t make out a single word.

Willy OP ,

What did you find?

Willy OP ,

Those were the days. For anyone under 40 see this for what we dealt with. support.usr.com/support/s-modem/…/usrv90.pdfThe plug and play section is especially amusing these days.

Willy OP ,

I tried to look it up but google senseless and bing seems to stall when you type it. If I remember, AT&FM1 is return to factory settings option 1. What does the rest or all of it mean? Is S11 the dial speed

Willy OP ,

Nice. Thank you. I’m proud I almost remembered that. I never used telemate but I did partner in hosting a small bbs with a friend. FarpointBBS. We had tradewars and the main dude even got it hooked up to the internet in the late days. As you know, way before the www took off.

Willy OP ,

M1 is mute true. Now it’s coming back!

Here is a long but really good read about culture/tradition. slatestarcodex.com/…/book-review-the-secret-of-ou…

Willy ,

Well, sort of. It’s much deeper than colored rock games. It gives a good explanation of why people idolize sports stars, why it was beneficial to a culture to “read tea leaves” for some things. It basically explores all kinds of traditions/culture that seems dumb to modern people but argues that each one is specific to its area and is humanity’s super power as opposed to just our big brains.

Willy ,

you gotta try trader joes unpasteurized. nellys is pretty good too. simply rates as fine in my book, but at least its cheap.

What is it about the text messages and emails sent by older people that make me feel like I'm having a stroke?

Maybe they're used to various shortcuts in their writing that they picked up before autocorrect became common, but these habits are too idiosyncratic for autocorrect to handle properly. However, that doesn't explain the emails I've had to decipher that were typed on desktop keyboards. Has anyone else younger than 45 or so felt similarly frustrated with geriatrics' messages?

@asklemmy

Willy ,

I’ve mostly seen the opposite. older people having taken typing classes while people who started typing very yound never got instruction and even if they had their hands would have been too small at the time. they do get pretty good WPMs though.

Willy ,

“I have seen these addictive algorithms pull in young people, literally capture them and make them prisoners in a space where they are cut off from human connection, social interaction and normal classroom activity,” she said.

literally capture them? you should be literally ejected from office.

Willy ,

I blame Paris Hilton.

Willy ,

its not a totally international sign of distress to fly a flag upside down. half of all Japanese flags are flown upside down everyday.

Willy ,

it an old site like, kinda like Digg. all the brains left about a year or so ago when they made some horrible business choices and then IPO’d. a lot of the users came here to lemmy.

18+ How do things get stuck in the anus?

I have seen a lot of stories online of people getting things stuck in there and doctors having to remove it, even items like cucumbers. I get that an item with a highly irregular shape could get stuck. But if it’s something long and rounded, why can people not just poop it out? Is it because the item isn’t soft enough?

Willy ,

Same. I think the highlights were the reasons and the list of objects.

Republican National Committee’s headquarters evacuated after vials of blood are addressed to Trump (apnews.com)

The Republican National Committee’s Washington headquarters was briefly evacuated on Wednesday as police investigated two vials of blood that had been addressed to former President Donald Trump following the presumptive presidential nominee’s takeover of the national party apparatus....

Willy ,

that’s a lot of extra work considering you walking around practically full of the stuff

Willy ,

kinda crazy that on your map, airports use as much land as railways.

Willy ,

Genocide-lite? It could get a lot more genocidal.

Willy ,

It is not genocide. In about 2 minutes or less, the entire palastinian population could be wiped out.

Willy ,

It’s not pointless. It was invented for a very good reason. You’ll find out one day. It’s a shame it’s been co-opted the way it has.

Willy ,

It’s almost like money isn’t real.

Willy ,

You do spend hours filling them out for nothing. Well for HR which is worse than nothing.

Willy ,

it’s just mud around a bollard I think.

Comcast used to have great voice search across pretty much every streaming service. I believe they were forced to stop.

Why does Sync not display some comments?

I’ve posted something today and somehow Sync gives me notifications in my inbox for replies to that post, but when I open the post, it can’t find any. I can interact with them just fine in the inbox and in the browser. But in Sync on the post, the number of replies is shown to be 4, while the comment section states that no...

do you have a lot of blocked people?

Do you leave a tip for housekeeping if you're only staying one night in a hotel?

Is it a ‘thank you for prepping my room’ or ‘please clean my room today’? If you tip post cleaning, it’s likely going to someone else the next day. Many hotels now only do housekeeping on demand. How do employees feel about this - do they miss the tips or are they happy for a less stressful workday?...

Willy ,

if your getting the same service at a place that charges 15 vs 60 a steak that’s pretty bad. it’s not just carrying the food.

Willy ,

Serious question: why do they always look like they are looking right at you? is it that they’re absorbing all the light all around them and the dark spot is just “your” light?

Willy ,

accurate timekeeping? that’s all I can think of for trading at least.

Willy ,

most of them are rechargeable. not refillable though, so once out of juice it’s trash time.

Willy ,

that was an amazing read. thanks. I didn’t expect to be up so late and totally captivated.

I don’t understand. where does the water go? are they using evaporative cooling?

Willy ,

I had no idea they changed the menu so much. I haven been in 10 years. “The Beast”?!?! and they didn’t even bring back the canoe cut?

Willy ,

isn’t that a picture of a scallop?

Willy ,

I’ve never met a dolphin I didn’t like, not that I really got to know them. people on the other hand.…

I think that’s what this is.

Willy ,

try better canned fish. don’t yuk my yum. go for line caught for tuna if dolphin death is an issue for you. wild planet is good and pretty widely available. safecatch is really tasty but even more expensive. sardines also range from the crap you buy for a buck to some really gourmet stuff at 15 bucks a tin.

Willy ,

Usually takes like 30 seconds or less on my games.

Willy ,

I wonder if it’s the games we play or our systems. Only one that has ever taken more for me is Spider-Man.

Willy ,

Why is he on the set of family feud?

Willy ,

I really do wish my toaster was smarter. first set of slices is never the same as the second.

Willy ,

ur just silly. No one is asking you to drive in that situation. even then, you haven’t broken the law and there are no direct consequences. if you hit someone else, there are indirect legal consequences. that wasn’t totally bad though, any other examples?

Willy , (edited )

sorry if that was flippant but I thought you were the one who had left good faith with your answer. agreed to agree to disagree. I stand by my original point that the juror you saw that got into trouble by nodding off was being treated badly and if they were punished it’s an injustice and a reason everyone should avoid jury duty. I hope it’s not real. have a good day.
