because ppl that think like this are not in good relationships. Every person/relationship has it’s quirks but if you this talking about your relationship is a trap just leave, one of you is the problem.
The thing I hated most on night shift was, if something was screwed up on day shift and was still an issue when I came in, they would pass it off; but, if something was screwed up at the end of my shift, I had to stay until it was resolved, sometimes for hours.
Converting a youtube link to any alternative front-end is as i remember correctly as easy as changing the youtube.com part to whatever the front-end link is. I think pipedbot should use the open source link redirection service called farside. It take care of automatic redirection when a front-end is momentarily dead and also do some load balancing by redirecting between multiple self-hosted front-ends so as to not Hug a single one to death while others get barely any use.
True democracy would be filling at least one branch of government with randomly selected citizens. Career politicians are psychopaths and don’t represent us.
It’s funny and sad at the same time that career politicians are allowed to exist because they tend to be the ones voting for their own restrictions and benefits.
Term restrictions? Fuck that
Increase our own salary even though we haven’t passed any new laws actually helping society? Let’s goo
Two terms for each position seems reasonable so you can be asked to continue or asked to leave. This allows you to run on a policy, implement it and then fix it or things that need to be tweaked and then get out.
Think that issue gets resolved quickly as no one really has the power in tenure anymore. If everyone only has a few years a cycle or two of stalemates will eventually lead to both sides having to work together or try and win the entire house.
This leads to another problem. Everyone will make policy to suck up to industry in order to secure a job after their term limits.
It’s already a problem of politicians swapping in and out of politics and into industry. Today they “represent the people against car manufacturers”, tomorrow they are a car industry lobbyist.
This is not a meme, but a reminder of a terrible time and this particular event. Post it in a history community, but not here. Why would we find something so sad funny?
Despite the rustled jimmies in this thread, I don’t really care what people post in a fucking ‘memes’ channel. However, you should know the caption does show up in sync and doesn’t make it any better. This might help clear things up:
The caption is there. But that doesn’t even matter. That isn’t the point. Point is the attitude towards the image, what it stands for and that it shouldn’t be used like this.
Using images of people suffering to make fun of a current situation is insensitive and disrespectful to the people who were suffering at the time. It also trivializes the situation and makes light of something that is serious and important. Essentially it isn’t ethical to use an image like this to make a point like yours.
It’s similar to someone posting a picture of a starving child and captioning it with “how I feel when I’m on diet.” It’s inappropriate, disrespectful and offensive.
Frankly, this post should be deleted for the same reasons.
Hey son how about we stay out of politics or whatnot and focus on this nice family time?
Normal response: Okay sorry dad, guess I was making everyone uncomfortable. It was just one of my hills to die on. So how’s the food?
OP’s response: But everything is political? How do you taste of that animal exploits cooked with nature crushing electricity dipped in yet another animal cruelty and forced labor? Family? What is family anyway? Do you realize that by forcing me to have a nice family time is actually only beneficial to fat capitalists? These things matter. And if you don’t want to hear these wherever you go then it’s your problem not mine.
That same dad when I happen to mention my trans friend in passing because it’s my friend:
three hour rant about me being men and testicles are a thing for a reason and this mother fucker is destroying America
Y’all “let’s not politic” folk politic ALL the time, you just think you can “nuh uh” to pick and choose what qualifies. Denying Healthcare to people isn’t political to yall, but I just cut a friend out because he literally shushed me for “being too political” for… Saying I’d like half hour busses back.
You’re making a big generalisation based on someone not wanted to see political memes and memes to about people not wanting to see political memes when they’re taking a dump or just trying to make the day pass.
I would definitely be a leftist in the USA and probably be considered progressive even, just because I’m used to how things are here in Sweden and the social climate we have. (I even argue with Americans quite often of how crappy their social climate and ideologies are)
But I still would like to browse Lemmy while taking a crap without having US politics memes shoved down my throat. If I would want that I’d probably subscribe to a relevant community.
I would still like to browse lemmy without us politics being shoved down my throat
The test determined, that was a lie. Y’all certainly stay engaged for extended periods of time for people who don’t want to think about it when you could, as people are wont to say, “Keep Scrolling.”
What you mean is that you want to browse lemmy without being reminded that the world is broken and your apathy fuels it’s broken state.
Yeah it’s (as far as I know) just aesthetic since the pots were decorative from the 1800s. I don’t think anyone cares about the aesthetics of like brass pipe fittings but for something decorative (like the pots and a wedding ring) the aesthetics matter.
I wish. They still protest against the lockdowns every saturday down here in Melbs. You know, the lockdowns that are long over. But they want those freedoms that aren’t being restricted in any way, shape or form, dammit!
I’ve seen the anti-vaxxers out and about. They have all these photos of people on little sticks and you think it’s going to be people who allegedly died of vaccines, but when you get up close it’s all stuff like “Marie had the Moderna vaccine. A day later she sprained her ankle climbing down off a horse.” “John had a sniffly nose a few weeks after Pfizer.”
“I know people who got the vaccine and died right after”
Ok. And I know 1,000,000x more people that didn’t get the vaccine and died from COVID. Even if they died from the vaccine (they didn’t), the vaccine is safer.
There is genuinely a small percentage of the population who is severely allergic to the vaccine. It happened to someone I know. She didn’t die of course - but yeah, was in hospital for a while and couldn’t take the subsequent shots after that first one. It was pretty rough.
Happily, the vaccines were administered in the presence of health professionals with a proper plan in-place especially to deal with these cases. They’re aren’t jabbing people with cow medicine they bought off the black market in their own back yards.
Allegedly there are two known instances of people in the US dying due to complications from the vaccine, though one of them wasn’t the mRNA vaccine that the anti-vaxxers were most scared of. Compare that to the over 1 million people who died from COVID.
I would even bet that she wasn’t allergic to the scary-sounding part of the vaccine, the mRNA. I would bet it was something like the fats the vaccine mRNA was suspended in, or the sugar/acid stabilizers in the solution that made up the majority of the liquid.
I am not medical at all, so don’t take me as any kind of expert. But it would have been Pfizer - the first shot 40-somethings in Australia received. Is that one even mRNA based?
In laws were making noises about ivermectin, we actually managed to knock that one square on the head when we casually mentioned “Oh yeah, that’s the stuff we used to give our rats” looooool
Now they have their “say no to the voice” rally with actual literal Nazi’s. I mean conspiracy theory territory can get alt-right very quickly but to have actual Nazi’s at your rally… You fucked up.
Honestly at this point you need to send some mental health professionals after them. They clearly aren’t doing well and lockdowns broke something. Given the state of mental healthcare in Australia though good fuckin’ luck.
My ex-stepdad was (supposedly from his mouth but I went no contact with him once he left) a huge conspiracy theory person. Vaccines cause Autism, Alex Jones was a huge presence in my house, anti-anything left of centre. Funny thing is, he’s Canadian. But when he spoke to my mum about something she had contacted him about, he mentioned to her how the last lockdown at the time was what did it for him. And now he’s “supposedly” not a massive conspiracy theorist nut job. So what I’m trying to say is, yes, I agree, we need mental health professionals working with these people. Because if I can go off my ex-stepdad and his problems, then I’m sure there’s a large majority of these dickheads who are probably of similar or worse mental health.
Yeah, I don’t mean to to call him a retard. But if you’re going to repost a meme you found at least crop it ffs. It’s like the bare minimum effort. Hell, OP could still crop the image right now and then edit the post. Lemmy lets you edit the tittle and the image itself.
Depends on what state you live in. For example, CA requires wait staff to be paid at least minimum wage. Also, many cooks are also receiving minimum wage.
All wait staff have to be paid minimum wage, it’s a federal law. If they don’t make minimum wage in tips, then the employer has to make up the difference.
Which is a massive pain in the ass to actually track and prove, and employees who do it don’t tend to stick around for long. Especially if you (like me) live in an at-will employment state where no reason for dismissal is required.
Left side has an hourly rate that’s almost always less than minimum wage. This is allowed because of the assumed tip income.
This part depends on the state, thankfully. Seems phased out on most of the West coast, to my knowledge. I know it’s still pretty widespread in the south.
Being phased out in DC too. That said, the transition period has been rough, many places are now using service fees to cover the costs, which makes sense but the fact that it’s still so inconsistent causes great annoyance.
Then again, so do tipping expectations, what exactly am I paying for? Can I opt out? What legally constitutes a tipped employee? WHY ARE THERE TIPPING OPTIONS AT FAST FOOD PLACES NOW!?
Overall, a clusterfuck that I’m happy to see is dying out, (I’ve also heard that it’s racially and sexually unjust.)
Kinda bugs me since they prob make more than I do lol
No idea what it’s like up north but the highest hourly job I’ve ever had was serving tables in college. Over a week it averaged out to $25-45/hr depending on the season and some other factors. Did it for about a year before the stress and irregular hours made it not even worth that much money. But it definitely changed how I perceived wait staff.
Waiters where I used to work were some of the best paid employees in the place even when including directors that were making 130k+… if they had included all their tip on their paycheck (instead of the default 10% of every bill under their name) they would have ended up getting a 0$ paycheck every two weeks and would have still owed taxes at the end of the year… and that’s while making above minimum wage from the get go…
