Chiller , in Tribes 3 Rivals Playtest works on Linux - a personal report

Nice to see Tribes back. Also SpecFeq and Rezarus Alpha are being made based on classics Busy year ahead .

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot ,

It’d be nice to have something from the rest of the Starsiege/Earthsiege/Metaltech universe back, though.

Chiller ,

Oof indeed.

luthis , in Most games installed on my main OS drive refuse to launch. Proton issue or something else?

You 100% can move the folder. Copy it to whatever drive and symlink it in the original location.

You installed Nvidia drivers?

revolverunit OP ,

Yep, 545.29.06

Cofeiini , in MangoHUD remove ms setting?

There should be a config file in ~/.config/MangoHud (you can check more details in the GitHub page github.com/flightlessmango/MangoHud#hud-configura…).

By adding frametime=0 to the config file, you should be able to remove the frametime measurement from the FPS display.

laskobar OP ,

Many THX. That’s exactly what I have searched for. I was confused by frame_timing.

cyberpunk007 , in Linux vs Windows, my experience

I ran arch for years then Manjaro. I had zero issues running doom eternal except if I switched workspaces then back. I’d have to kill -9 the app and relaunch. Was enough to make me dual boot to beat that game. I’ve been running Manjaro since, because I don’t have the time like I used to to fuck around with settings. I still prefer Linux overall as my daily drive though. It’s not a slow, buggy, ad ridden pile of shit. Imo windows is so buggy and slow since like 8 or 10

Astaroth ,

Do you use workspaces on Windows?

Tbh I didn’t know that’s a thing

just_another_person , in Two issues with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 via Lutris

If you own a legit copy of the game, find a crack to remove the protection, or download an already cracked version. You paid for it, and should be allowed to run it how you want.

Amends1782 , in Wine-GE-Proton8-25 Released

I need to ask a dumb question. I’ve only been using the steam provided proton versions. Should I use the GE ones and if so how? Thanks

JTskulk ,

I upgraded to bleeding edge proton in steam for this issue, works great. Upgrading is very easy.

Amends1782 ,

In steam I am typically using proton experimental or hotfix. If those fail I use whatever proton db users recommend

JTskulk ,

I am now as well :) Sounds like a simple way to handle it.

terminhell ,

Not always. It’s largely going to depend on the game. GE is a tweaked version fork. I’ve had some games run fine with either version. But I’ve also had a mix of some running better with GE, some without.

I forget the name, but there’s a GUI tool now (check your package manger) that makes the setup really easy. Though the manual setup is about as complicated as creating a folder and pasting the GE file in it and restart steam.

vividspecter ,

If you don’t have an issue with a particular game, then you probably don’t need it.

Amends1782 ,

Thanks. There have been a couple that I look up on Proton DB and they recommend GE over normal and I’ve been too afraid or lazy to implement it

DarkThoughts ,

An easy way to download and maintain them is by using the ProtonUp app. I personally keep Experimental by default in Steam and switch to GE for specific titles when necessary, as Experimental hotfixes can roll out quicker than GE updates. Some people argue that it is better to use GE because he updates DXVK etc. to the latest versions but you can also opt into the bleeding edge branch of Experimental in Steam by searching for Proton in your library, right click and go into its properties and then to Betas.

Amends1782 ,

I had no idea about proton beta and bleeding edge. Amazing recommendation thank you

Ibaudia , in Recommended linux variant for gaming.
@Ibaudia@lemmy.world avatar

Realistically just use what you prefer. The differences between distros, even when it comes to performance, are very small when it comes to gaming. The most important things IMO are good Wayland support, stability, and consistent updates.

Fubarberry , in How to add LethalCompany mods on Linux
@Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz avatar

Thanks for sharing, I haven’t picked up Lethal Company yet but I know some other games like Shadow of Doubt use the same mod loader and I bet this will work great for them.

saucegp , in [Solved] Can not for the life of me get WoW working with Lutris

I’ve had it working for months and just today it wouldn’t launch the game from lutris so don’t feel bad. I’m going to give bottles a try tomorrow, but when I get back to the computer I’ll share my settings.

promitheas OP ,
@promitheas@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Please do, and let me know if it works with bottles.

saucegp ,

I missed that you were running a private server vanilla client so probably not apples to apples - I did get retail wow w/battle.net running in bottles in about 15 minutes with zero messing around though, thanks to all the people that brought that up as an option!

promitheas OP ,
@promitheas@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Yea, it ended up not working for wow private, but it should work for retail/cpassic because battle.net worked almost out of the box with bottles. I only needed to change its runner to caffe. After that I could install my other battle.net games (diablo3 and hearthstone) just fine, so I assume wow would work too.

RTRedreovic , in Xonotic - a FOSS FPS game

Ah, this game. I love to pull it out whenever I am feeling bored and dried out by my other games. It’s an amazing and low resource intensive game. So to say, I like to zip across the map at subsonic speeds more than actually playing it haha. But I still get the sniper rifle whilst doing that and practice some sick ferrari headshots.

Kolanaki , in Xonotic - a FOSS FPS game
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Game feels great. I just wish the people I knew who also played weren’t across the pond so I could actually get a kill once in a while (being the odd man out, if we play together my ping is 300-500ms).

uis OP ,
@uis@lemmy.world avatar

Australia?

Kolanaki ,

USA. But now I see how the Aussies feel when there are a lack of servers in their area.

uis OP ,
@uis@lemmy.world avatar

You have SPLYAT I mean SPLAT to play with. But he usually plays on other side of the pond server(Feris) with 120ms ping. Also he is usually in Relax discord server with Xord and Allotropy.

Potajito , in gaming distro recommendation

For me it would be nobara or endevour os. Garuda is too messy imo. I run endeavour, but I don’t know how much gaming is possible on a nuc.

zipsglacier OP ,

Oh thanks for the endeavor recommendation. It might be a bit too much of a change for us, but I’ll let him take a look.

DarkThoughts ,

I'd advice against using EOS. If it breaks and you don't have the skills to fix it you can prepare yourself for a fresh installation already.
