My friend’s kid used to take ~1 shit a week. What happened is, he got constipated one time and had a very painful shit. Naturally, he didn’t like it, who would, but was too young to understand the situation was abnormal. So, logically, in order to avoid pain while shitty he decided to avoid shitting as long as possible, which resulted in painful shits because it’s a week’s worth coming out at once.
Ended up being self-fulfilling. This went on for at least several months if not longer than a year.

While potty training, my daughter held her poop for over a week. We had to cave and let her use a diaper, because she was at risk of permanent injuries. Then suddenly one day she decided diapers were for babies and started pooping in the toilet.
I HAVE done a three-day zero-poo adventure many times at festivals. Usually I’d just eat those heavy bars and beef sticks. Then on the way back we’d stop at whatever place has the greasiest food, order an appetizer sampler, and just destroy the place’s toilets.

in my case the solution was consuming as much fibre as i possibly can, it’s helped me tremendously with gut health in general. It basically just makes things behave conveniently and sensibly.

My parents ended up taking me to several pediatric Psychologists to help figure out what the problem was, including some quack that tried to say I was acting out in subconscious anger because my Grandfather was a Freemason! Not, you know, the fact I didn’t realize that bowel movements aren’t supposed to be painful. I think I made it for two weeks once although I wasn’t keeping exact score. And yes, I did end up in the ER over it at least once that I can remember.
I developed the same weird irrational fear about it from a young age. I’d hold it as long as I could. Even once that embarrassed me enough to start trying to stop, I still wasn’t “regular”. I’d go, it would be painful, and then I wouldn’t have to go again for weeks on end. My mom kept tabs on the situation, took me to all kinds of doctors, tried all different laxatives and stool softeners, got a colonoscopy done, but the answer was always “I guess that’s just her body’s schedule”. Best lead we got was allergy testing that came back positive (mild) for pretty much everything; the worst being eggs, whey/milk, and gluten. Which wasn’t realistic to cut out on our budget but we reduced as much as we could.
Then my period kind of forced me out of it. So I have a couple big shits around my period that need to be cut with a knife and that’s that. My PCP still asks about it occasionally lol, says her kid had the same issue, but as far as she can tell I’m in perfect health so…
Aside from the mild embarrassment I get when the topic comes up for whatever reason, I can’t say it’s the worst thing to not have to go super frequently. And I guess I got pretty good control of my bowels from the whole ordeal 😅 Although in terms of people in my life knowing about it from here on, I’ll probably take the entire experience and my “schedule” to my grave.
It’s funny you talk about whey and dairy because this same friend also has two kids who had issues with the proteins in milk as a baby. Same symptoms, constipation. They had to get special formula to alleviate problems. Over time the kids grew out of it.

semi-related tale. when i was in college, there was a snow storm and a bachelor party in the same week… so I missed 2 of 2 classes before the friday quiz. the class was hard already and i wanted to at least show that i cared about the course. so, I showed up to the quiz anyway. i ended up spending 40 mins or so writing about how the rhythmic hip thursts of some historical science person had changed my entire life and the landscape of modern dance. i had zero clue what the quiz was on and deserved to fail. i got a 50 % on the quiz and the professor thanked me, but asked that i never do that again. that was a fucking win over a zero. sometimes people just need a good laugh.
It is failing, but one 50% quiz is better than a 0% quiz when added into your overall grade. Plus OP showing up to class at least shows to the professor that they’re trying and might bump their grade up a bit at the end of the term.
I know this will likely change as time goes on, but so far I’ve lost value and I’m under water by about 10% according to what I can suss out of the market value. TF you talking about? You use the whole price of the asset for net worth. If your mortgage is $1 less than what you would get from selling it that’s +$1 to your net worth.
If your house sells for 500k after expenses and you owe 300k you don’t just get the 200k and still owe 300k. The lein holder gets their 300k and you get 200k.
My house is worth ~1.8mm and I owe ~140k, that’s +1.66mm to my net worth. Even if I owed 1mm, I’d have +800k.
Unless the house is worth less than you owe, having a house with a mortgage isn’t a negative to your net worth.

Their asset (the home) atm is still roughly equal to their liability (the mortgage).

As long as you can sell and have $1 left over after leins and expenses, it adds to your net worth. It’s the value of the home less any leins, not your equity less any leins when determining what it means to your net worth.
Feel free to day one flip a new house for a profit after those expenses you’re handwaving, I’m sure it’s easy to do.
In the meantime, most homeowners will be breaking even on the investment, aka growing their worth, years or decades into ownership, assuming a stable market.

If they do background checks and you list it on your resume / hiring paperwork, they all do.
I used to work as a team lead on a call center help desk that had literally no requirements to get the job outside of a 10 question “technical interview” that features questions such as “can you name three programs that are a part of the Microsoft office suite” and periodically we would have new hires get fired once their background check returned that they lied about having a degree that they don’t actually have.
I don’t know why they lied - degrees aren’t even requested or required for getting the job, but they did and lying on anything that came up on the background check was an immediate termination

Yes, transcripts are rare. No one really cares what your grades were as long as you get the degree. Checking that you got the degree you claimed you did is not rare. But you don’t have to do anything extra to prove that; it’ll show up in the background check that pretty much every employer runs.

It was one giant paragraph with few punctuation marks and almost all lowercase. It started out with “you sound dumb”, went on to say I need to accept Christ into my heart, and that the devil was using me as a tool and would spit me out when he’s done with me.
What was it in reply to? I said a guy cited in the article was a crank, and not a real scientist, because he believed the moon was made of plasma.
I said (in the context of violent criminals) that rehabilitation should not be the main goal but rather keeping dangerous people away from functioning members of society.

I’m not sure. I want to look it up and see what was said to them so I asked about the two threads they were commenting in most recently that it could be.
So what? None of those opinions justify the threats I got. I do think drag shows are often too sexual for children. And I do believe rehabilitation should take a backseat to keeping people on the street safe. That was the basis for which I received those threats for, and predictably people like you come and imply I deserve it.
I haven’t had time to read the drag show thread but I didn’t see anyone wishing death upon you in the policing thread after a quick glance. Can you link it if I missed that reply?

after reading your responses in that thread i do think that person is right about everything else though. you go out of your way to defend the criminal justice system and the carceral state in the context of a discussion about how it’s endangering bystanders in a space that is explicitly about the problems with the carceral state, the criminal justice system and militant policing.

My opinion was “no I don’t think we should let criminals get away because of a freak accident”. It’s not that serious, I saw a post on my frontpage and I commented on it. boo fucking hoo, you’re pretending like my relatively milquetoast opinion is some moral failing.
A wreck in a high speed chase isn’t a freak accident. It happens all the time. High speed pursuits are dangerous. The police know it, that’s why cops have helicopters and drones to avoid getting in them.
Further, we’re not talking hypothetically. Cops chased a stolen car into a bystander in the attempt to do just what you’re suggesting. An innocent person died so they could catch the criminal.
For what? Retribution? To recover the car? Were either of those worth that woman’s life? I don’t think so and i can’t imagine anyone who would!
The very thing you espoused, the cops not letting the person escape even though they knew it was dangerous to everyone around, led to the loss of innocent life! It would have been better if they had never given chase and the car was lost forever!
Unless of course a person getting punished for theft and a car being recovered is worth a life.

The issue is that there’s no distinct line between chasing a criminal and becoming a high speed chase. Are cop cars not allowed to pursue fleeing criminals at all? Just if they’re all going the speed limit? But the moment they go over the cops have to bail? Sure, maybe they should lean into drone technology more, but I really dislike the idea of letting criminals get away, as it will simply inspire more criminal. I believe the amount of carjackings would skyrocket if getting away was as easy as driving fast.
You can disagree with me all you want but there’s a lot more to this topic and there’s a reason why cops chase down criminals in nearly every country.
