I’m pretty sure that story was faked by putting a separate display in the shell of a pregnancy test. They don’t even have real displays usually, let alone a full reprogrammable microcontroller

notthebees ,

it wasn’t faked, but it was very much a ship.of Theseus pregnancy test. They replaced the microcontroller with one they could program (it might have been the reprogrammable version of the same microcontroller. And the screen was replaced.

So it was faked. The ship of Theseus was still a ship with the same capabilities at the end. They didn’t add an engine to it.

I believe in taking care of my operating system and a balanced power profile and rigorous maintenance routine. In the morning if my game is a little laggy I’ll put on a memory optimisation program while running benchmarks. I can score 1000 now. After I remove unused programs I use a file clearing tool such as CCleaner. On the desktop I audit all my shortcuts , remove any I haven’t opened for a while and sort the rest into folders. Then I apply any driver or software updates before powering off my PC which I leave off for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use a keyboard cleaning wipe with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your fingers out and makes you type slower. Then screen cleaning, then wiping down my desk mat followed by a final system boot.

My 6th grade English teacher was the hottest teacher in the school. She’d sit in a boys lap and then ask them to come to the board to answer a problem.

Later it came out publicly that much of the school administration and teachers, city council, and some of the religious leaders were involved in a large and well-known (among the adults, I guess?) swingers club. Small towns get down.

It did largely change the dynamic of the town after they all moved and got fired from what I hear. The abusive kids elementary gym teacher and later high school boy’s weight lifting coach became the principal, one or two principals after one fled the country because of rumors of inappropriate relations with a minor.

The uncomfortable truth is that the US isn’t special, and you can’t use the size of it to justify things being shit.

The EU is not at all equivalent to the USA. The US federal government has a looot more power than the EU and the states a lot less autonomy than EU countries. Also, culture is more homogeneous across the US than across the EU.

But the main reason the US can’t handle the same stuff at a federal level that the EU can is population density. The US government can’t afford to nationalize rural healthcare given how rural the US can be–especially with their debt/GDP at the moment. Give it another few hundred years and the US might catch up to Europe in that respect.

That’s fascinating, and I agree with you. Why the US hates the idea of high-speed rail is beyond me, especially because they prided themselves so much on the rail system they put together earlier in their development. In any case, the US can’t do much of anything with its debt-to-GDP as high as it is right now. They can hardly keep from shutting the government down entirely because they won’t even agree to a government budget.

-I got paid more on unemployment than when working.

How did that one happen? That’s the unbelievable part to me - unemployment is basically capped to a percentage (usually 50%) of what you were making when working and vacation pay and partial pay (paychecks from part time work) etc any other non-gift pay also deduct or delay from how much you end up getting paid, at least where I live.

    citrusface ,

It happens - especially when company gets in trouble.

    Vej ,

Unemployment counts the last 5 quarters. If you get fired before a quarter ends it doesn’t count it as a full quarter.

I left a different job making a lot more because of my health. I knew the manager at this new job and he saw I wanted a position that I was already in. Less hours, about the same pay.

When I was unemployed it counted the vacation I was reimbursed upon my leave from the previous company and the massive amount of overtime I was making from the previous job. If they would have fired me 4 days later, I would have been in the new quarter and gotten a lot less.

Android in it self (Android Open Source Project) kicks any iOS in the ass. The problem is that vendors put a thick layer of their version of android. I read the study, it only compares just one iPhone to one Google Pixel phone and it concludes that Google just sends more accumulated data, not more data type. The reason for that is because DroidGuard send a full device integrity report to google to check things like the bootloader, mounts, if its rooted, if its an emulator, etc… Plus its checking for API hooking like Frida as the study testers where using. Droidguard is a huge obfuscated blob of data so sending loads of obfuscated data keys makes sense. The study concludes that while google calls for more data, the type of data regarding privacy is the same for iOS and Google Android.

You say that you want your phone for productivity like modifying your phone would be unproductive. Which is funny since your are on Lemmy commenting on a post about “Mildy Infuriating Stuff”. If you do not care for for modification is one thing, but if one wishes to do so one should be able to do it. I’m totally fine with using tools as is, but if one would like to modify it then Apple, Google or whomever should not prevent it, if it voids the warranty or some other contract then so be it. It is your tool not theirs.

I agree with you that Google are a piece of shit, just that I think the same of Apple. I think that buying a phone for $1500 when there are other options for $400 is insane. From what I have read most developers and regular people who want privacy and freedom try to de-Google their phone, or run a custom ROM, and on their PC they run Debian, Arch or whatever. If that i not an option for you that is fine, but is not for nothing that people are running away from Apple and Google while they are getting their asses sued, it is not for nothing that government institutions around the world are replacing Windows with GNU/Linux.

Getting leeches on your balls kinda sucks. On one hand you want to rip them off but on the other hand you are lonely and it's been a while since anything touched them. ¯_(ツ)_//¯

That’s the plot of the Charlie Chaplin film The Kid. His adopted street urchin smashes windows and he comes around and offers to sell a replacement.
