A man with an assault rifle at an island killing 77 people, many bellow 18, kinda ruined pi-approximation day in Norway.

meliaesc ,

What an oddly specific trigger. I’m sure 3/14 has a tragic past somewhere too. 🤔

Damage ,

From the wiki:

2019 – Cyclone Idai makes landfall near Beira, Mozambique, causing devastating floods and over 1,000 deaths.
2021 – Burmese security forces kill at least 65 civilians in the Hlaingthaya massacre.

JokeDeity ,

It’s recent enough that it still haunts the people of the country. It’s also not an every day occurrence like in America.

AngryCommieKender ,

TIL that not only is it legal to own guns in Norway, apparently you guys have a fairly high percentage of gun ownership.

dQw4w9WgXcQ ,

Absolutely, but acquiring a weapon legally is a process involving the police and requires a sensible intent (like hunting, sports or defense against polar bears) and an approved safe storage. While there are a lot of weapons in Norway, it’s very heavily regulated.

With that said, the terror in Norway was performed with a firearm which was obtained legally with approval from the police, so the system is far from perfect.

Nollij , to asklemmy in Can/will the CrowdStrike outage be replicated by hackers?

“Hackers” (rather, malicious actors) rarely look to take down IT resources as their goal. Instead, they want to access it for their own purposes. The closest example would be ransomware, where it gets taken down as part of the threat/punishment. But if the victim pays, their resources must be restored.

Plus, I would be surprised if Crowd Strike doesn’t have any protections on its own files. I also expect there will be additional verification checks (hash/etc) on their updates going forward.

Blizzard OP ,

malicious actors rarely look to take down IT resources as their goal

Could be a hostile government sponsored group or idealists (Microsoft has more haters than fans) or simply someone could do it just because they can - if they could. Some men just want to see the world burn.

Sethayy ,

They could also DDOS essentially anything with root access to that many devices.

Its like taking all the armies guns to throw them in a volcano ‘cause you want to see the world burn’

To be fair, WebXR does make VR stuff possible in a browser. But I guess that wasn’t what they wanted.

DaCrazyJamez , to asklemmy in Do you folks use Amazon a lot, and if yes, then why? If no, then what alternatives do you prefer?

I use it as one of several sites…there are some things they are still the best / most convenient for. For cheap chinese crap (which is often all I need for small projects etc) temu and aliexpress now undercut amazon considerably. For quality items that are ok to buy used, ebay.

ANYTHING that costco sells will almost always be the best choice, but they have a very limited selection.

So in short, amazon is very much still in play, but as one of many, not the go-to anymore.

They give you a 3% raise even though inflation is 8% because if they didn't then you might decide that it's worth the effort of going through the job application process until someone else hires you at a 10% pay raise.

    No need to be rude…

    meldrik ,

Leaflet is just the frontend. You need the actual tiles as well. You can either generate your own tiles or use something like mapbox, who generate the tiles for you and keep them updated.

    possiblylinux127 ,

Can’t you just pull from OSM? I think that’s what leaflet does

    meldrik ,

You can pull from any provider you want, with Leaflet. Including OSM. But! OSM does not have the resources to provide tiles for everyone. operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/tiles/

Find out if your local county or municipality has a required timeframe. By us it’s every 3 years.

As far as how to tell in the short term, is there a tank between your house and the drain field that you can access (has maybe a round metal or concrete cover or a plastic riser with lid)? If so, lift the lid and see if you can see the top of the pipe going in the direction of the drain field. If so it’s likely draining fine. If the liquid is near the top of the tank and you can’t see a pipe, you’ll want to get someone to look at it sooner rather than later.

    From: lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/24552643 via lemmy.dbzer0.com/u/joes

The number of participants stayed the same. There were 2722 more tournament games than last year, the proportion of all games played went up 6.6%. 9 fewer people ascended 13 fewer games, with a higher ratio of 2.9 asc/player. There was only 1 ascension in Fourk, Dyna and 1.3d. 81% of games were scummed, 58% of all scums that month, basically split 2:1 between 31PwnMoat (again) and hecatonheir (last year it was dedal). Medusa was killed 87 more times, again mostly by Valkyries, but also dwarven Anachrononauts. 3.7 was played even more, dnh gained 7 ranks (+3.9%p), Un lost 4th place to HackEM (-4.9%p), Splice stayed in 3rd place, Spork/Fourk were played least, but 1.3d shot up 4 ranks from last place. On the australian hardfought server 8x more games were played.

    And a comment from lemmy.dbzer0.com/u/joes

Clan DeepCavernGoobs managed to break all conducts in 19 games. malor ascended 11 variants; Merlek killed Medusa 9 times, only ascended 4, but got a trophy in all 21 variants. Only Umbire ascended 1.3d (uncrowned). jonosmalls and smurphy ascended Unnethack (jono even without Elbereth [also in xnh], killing all Riders and Baalzebub). Splice: finitelycraig got the Bell, stoicjin the Luckstone. Spork: Muad got the Bell, bleeko entered Gehennom. Grunt: Merlek killed Medusa and got the Luckstone, hothraxxa finished Sokoban. hothraxxa ascended NH4 without killing Vlad and the Quest nemesis. Fourk: recuerdo ascended, fitsf killed Croesus. FIQ: oh6 escaped in celestial disgrace, Merlek splatted on the Planes, Umbire killed Rodney. hothraxxa ascended DynaHack, bleeko reached Gehennom. fitsf and malor ascended SLASH’EM, ocnda escaped in disgrace. disperse and malor ascended SlashTHEM. Dictyostelium entered the Quest in HackEM. anselmus and malor ascended AceHack, ais523 and recuerdo splatted on the Planes. Noisytoot killed Demogorgon in nndnh.
