If you’re talking about something that feels like wizardry, try Lisp programming and pondering orbs.

Many early computer scientists thought Lisp was more advanced than any other coding language because it was easier to store and manipulate information, as well as think about. They wrote many of the early textbooks on the subject.

They also thought coding could accomplish much more than what coders can do in practice today. You can write several types of AI systems that are rare today.

You could use ideas about stuff like Circle Theorems to work less directly with numbers.

I would suggest looking into TiniMiniMicro project.

And considering ProxMox as a platform. It will save you your nerves so much. Spin up a VM/LXC in a few seconds, play with it, delete it. Make a snapshot before update, if something fails - revert back. I’ve tried so many new projects because of how easy it is to do it.

sugar_in_your_tea OP ,

It sounds overly complicated to me, but I honestly don’t know much about it. Do you have a good resource for what value it brings vs other options?

Personally, I just use containers on a single host. Right now that’s openSUSE Leap, but I’m thinking of switching to microOS for an immutable base system, which I think has value. This makes it really easy to move services between machines (just copy the compose file and whatever config/data volumes it has), e.g. if I decide to move a service to a dedicated machine (e.g. an ARM SBC).

Are you Samson? What kind of magic hair did you have?

Althrough I think a good cut is good for a good first impression. It’s not a big deal, they will eventually grow back. You can cure other aspect of your style.

I voluntary shave myself in the summer, and I know very well that I am more handsome with long hair. But I don’t care and so do others.

There are some good aspects of a bald head eg. Time efficency when I shower and feeling fresh during the day.

Azzu , to nostupidquestions in I grew up in the era of Photoshop and people would post fake nudes. Why is it now a big deal that AI is doing it? Kinda like the Taylor Swift thing on twitter.

It’s only a big deal because of puritan society like in the US or UK or similar in the first place. There are societies where nudity is not a big deal anyway, so nude photos of someone are also no big deal.

Look at Germany for example. Lots of FKK (nude) areas. No one really bats an eye. Of course there nudity is also not perfectly normalized, especially in some circles. But still, not many are concerned about nude pictures of themselves.

Obviously AI makes more nude pictures faster than someone skilled at Photoshop. So if your society has a problem with nudity, there will be more problems than before.

But really, there shouldn’t be a problem anyway.

Don_alForno ,

Look at Germany for example. Lots of FKK (nude) areas. No one really bats an eye.

We still don’t appreciate our nudes posted online, fake or not.

Azzu ,

Of course there nudity is also not perfectly normalized, especially in some circles.

Also obviously because of privacy reasons people don’t like their pictures posted online, nude or not.

Etterra ,

They’re not even actual nudes - they’re fake. It seems to me to be no different than putting someone’s head on a Big Bird photo.

That said, nobody gets to decide what’s offensive to other people. Just do as they ask and don’t do the fake nudes. It’s not like there’s a shortage of porn done by willing adults.

Azzu , (edited )

I’m not saying people should do it. I’m just talking about a fundamental principle to keep yourself happy: to not be hurt by what other people are doing. In the end, you can’t control what other people will do. But you can control your reaction to what they do.

Of course, everyone is also allowed to disagree with this advice. I’m just sharing what works for me. If someone wants to feel bad/offended about someone making a fake nude of them, I don’t want to stop anyone doing that (and I can’t).

Why do we use sound hmmm all over the world when thinking about something? Was there just first proto language that had all these onomatopoeias built in or were they invented independently because they excite neurons in same way, mood regardless of culture?

Maybe it also has to do with the human anatomy? Like, when people are thinking they probably have their mouth closed and maybe even purse their lips. The sound you can make in this pose is really just hmm I guess.

OK yeah, the next question would then be why we use certain facial expressions…

Without looking too far my prediction is to see 2 varations of replies mostly:

1.) I do something completely unrelated and enjoyable because my job is chill, or I’m good at it, and so on…

2.) I actually do my boss’s job and maybe even their bosses’ jobs, because I actually do the work that gets done, but am still paid at peon-level.

Personally I would take this opportunity to segregate /home and / on two distinct SSDs. You can upgrade them separately in the future, optimize each of them for different purposes, you can fuff around with system partitions and trying new distros and whatnot without touching home etc.

There’s nothing outstanding to gain from RAID0 if you don’t need the increase in speed. You could make an argument for RAID1 but unless you actually need 100% availability, again, not worth the complications. Take frequent backups (preferably incremental) and that’s it.

On the build of Windows 11 I'm using PrintScr has been replaced with the snipping style screenshot tool (used to be Shift+Win+S) instead of the fullscreen screenshot like before.

lord_ryvan , (edited ) to linux in What is the Windows Equivalent of Popular Linux apps?

To be fair, these tools are all already built-in

  1. Xbox Game Bar (Win+G)
  2. Windows screenshot (Win+S / Win+Shift+s)
  3. File Explorer (Win+E) can handle .zip, even preview them quite nicely.

I realise these are not open source (and others have already given great open-source options I would give, as well). But you’re using Windows already, so why not use Windows?

cizra ,

Once I downloaded, installed and used 7zip to extract a .zip archive while Windows Exploder was extracting the same file.

ReversalHatchery ,

Yeah but those tools are very inferior. The GUI of 7z is much better for any task, it even adds right click shortcuts to common actions to your files. Same with greenshot. Haven’t ever used the game bar’s recorder so can’t tell about that, but once you learn the very basics of OBS (which is the location of the record button) it’s much more flexible, even without that flexibility being in the way.

lord_ryvan ,

Everyone else is already giving those, so like I stated I wouldn’t repeat them here.

I just added the information that there are also built-in tools for these, this information was missing from the thread.

terminhell ,

Just one little addition: win+shift+s for snipping tool. Let’s you select a region, window or whole screen.
