DrownedRats , to nostupidquestions in I grew up in the era of Photoshop and people would post fake nudes. Why is it now a big deal that AI is doing it? Kinda like the Taylor Swift thing on twitter.
@DrownedRats@lemmy.world avatar

Because now, anyone can do it to anyone with zero effort and a single photo.

Sure, before anyone with decent Photoshop skills could put together a halfway decently convincing fake nude but its still significantly more effort and time than most would be bothered with and even then its fairly easy to spot and dispute a fake.

Most people weren’t concerned if a celebrity’s fake nudes were spread around before but now that a colleague, student, teacher, family member, or even a random member of the public could generate a convincing photo the threat has become far more real and far more conceivable

Randomgal ,

To be fair. Photoshop has made tasks like this incredible simple. With a “good” photo, the process is much less esoteric now than it was once.

  • it still takes time/knowledge and isn’t automated
  • it can’t be turned into an unending assembly line where one 16 year old with basic computer literacy can pump out thousands a day if they want

Nice riposte, OP.

It was always a big deal. But back then it was often pretty obvious when it was a fake. It’s getting harder and harder to tell.

KDE connect

BeatTakeshi OP ,
@BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world avatar

I tried this between the Samsung and my Debian laptop and none ever recognised the other. Also quite sure it relies on a local network?

dudecalledeagle ,

Not sure if it helps but i fixed this problem by connecting both devices using a cable. Works like a charm now, even over network

n3m37h ,

And wifi direct isn’t a local network?

BeatTakeshi OP ,
@BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world avatar

No, it is more peer to peer (imo)

n3m37h ,

Your opinion is moot, WiFi direct is a network without an intermediary (router/modem) for peer to peer applications. KDE Connect will work or any other network filesharing application

AstralPath ,

If you use a free VPN like Proton you’ll need to disconnect from it to be able to see devices on LAN.

GlenRambo ,

Even though KDE Connect came with Endeavour OS (arch BTW) I had to allow some firewall settings.

That took me longer than it should have, as I automatically read Reading as Reading instead of reading. That’s rad.

I still use my bought in 2012 Photoshop CS 6, almost daily, no plans to upgrade. If i need to keep one of my PCs with windows, i won’t mind sticking to a old version for the long run

Imgonnatrythis ,

Cs6 was peak PS!

Zetta ,

GIMPs biggest upgrade in like a decade should be coming out this year, you’ll have to check it out and see if it meets your needs when it does.

olafurp , to asklemmy in How to deal with being bald?

Half of looking good is how good you feel about yourself. Your issue might not be the lack of hair, but the lack of self esteem. I’m sure that once you get adjusted to it the looks will come back.

SomeAmateur , to nostupidquestions in Is it better to use Reddit again?

Not better, but I still look in on my fav subs every month or so. I still think it’s worth building a good alternative here so this is my primary

Doesn’t this require the devices to be connected to the same wifi?

Edit: OP already replied so nvm

illi , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in Is it better to use Reddit again?

That’s for you to answer. There are many niche subs that don’t have their equivalent here, but I don’t even miss them that much anymore. Reddit had so much content you could scroll for ages, even though half of it you saw already. I feel served here just fine. Feels more like reddit when I joined (though it was a bit more lively even back then)
