with a stupid name

With a stupid misspelled name. They wanted googol but misspelled it when registering the domain name.

What? Everyone else went on a code learning field trip with Zuko. Now it’s my turn.

I prefer the Colombian way of saying thanks.

“Con gusto”

It means “With pleasure”.

Not much more than we rolled into Iraq with. My HMMWV had cloth sides and top until about six months into our deployment.

the tow company

I love that you call one of the largest defense contractors on the planet “the tow company”.

The big problem with space is overheating. Space may be cold but there is no way to get rid of that heat except for radiators. Convection doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

teft ,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

Technically space is hot since temperature is a function of average particle movement and spaceborne particles are mostly moving stupid fast. Fortunately there are very few particles in any given volume of “empty” space so that translates to space being “cold”.

Have you never seen the inside of Oscar’s trash can? That place is a palace. He’s got an olympic size swimming pool in it. He also has an ice skating rink and a bowling alley.

Fort Point Lighthouse, I believe. It’s at the mouth of the Penobscot River.

Was that a haiku?

I really like those poems.

They always sound nice.

Why was Dr. M'Benga Demoted?

When we first see Dr. M’Benga (chronologically), he is the Enterprise’s chief medical officer. When we see him again, he is still on the Enterprise, but working under Dr. McCoy’s command and, if he was on the ship at the time, under Dr. Piper’s command as well (Dr. Piper was CMO in Where No Man Has Gone Before)....

Why was the man keeping his daughter in a pattern buffer demoted? The man who slaps around klingon dignitaries? The same guy who keeps illicit wartime drugs for, i don’t know, kicks I guess?

Why did that guy get demoted?

If your wife is such a light sleeper that a vibrating watch is waking her perhaps sleeping in a separate room when you need to wake up at a certain time would work?

Switzerland?

teft ,

I know you swiss are notoriously humorless so I’ll let you in on the secret. That was a joke.

It’s called subversion of expectations. People expected the answer to be The United States. Stating another country that is also known for harboring tax evaders instead of the US is funny.

You can’t really see it clearly but my guess would be it’s a unit hat. The military issues soldiers unit hats to wear as an alternative to normal headgear sometimes. It’s a morale thing since the unit caps tend to be more like baseball caps than military headgear.

here is a shot of some air force civil engineers wearing their unit hats.

If you steal the Runepowder barrel in BG3 you can commit actual violations of the geneva convention. Not that Astarion would stoop so low.

Two different emperors. July is named after Julius Caesar and August is named after Augustus.

teft ,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

His full name was Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus but he was most commonly called Octavian. He was born Gaius Octavius but when he was named successor to Julius Caesar he adopted Caesar’s name.

teft ,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

They’re all super confusingly named. The first 12 have either caesar, augustus, or both as part of their name.

Especially since gasoline price increases affect everyone except for nomadic tribes. Everything you buy is more than likely transported via fossil fuel based vehicles. That fuel price is added into the cost at some point. Higher gas prices means higher prices for everything.

The fucking orcs were setting up whites only bars. Good for Sri Lanka for kicking them out.

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend?

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

Elden Ring

Carve her into a gaming god.

I’m guessing they saw Battlebots and they attach big old sticks to this frame so that the sticks will go in the rotors of the drones and make them crash.

It works on Battlebots so why not Battleblyats?

I use a Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit lock and chain through my rear wheel and rear triangle with a cable through my front wheel. I live in Medellin, Colombia which is about as theft prone for bikes as NYC is. I’ve never had my bike stolen. I also don’t leave it out at night, only when I’m going into a store or something.

Edit: Be aware this is a pretty heavy chain and lock but I love my bike and don’t want it stolen so I bought the best one I could find.

Knowing the Chinese tendency to lie massage the truth this thing is probably only radar transparent in one frequency and lit up like a beacon in all other frequencies.

Laziness. Most people don’t want to research everything needed to set up a self hosted camera system. Much easier to pop into Best Buy and grab a Wyze camera that works out of the box.

So a judge who has taken cases because he is qualified to see top secret information is assigned a case that contains top secret information.

Why is this a problem? I don’t see a conflict of interest here.

Chocolate bloom can be repaired by melting the chocolate down, stirring it, then pouring it into a mould and allowing it to cool, bringing the sugar or fat back into the solution.

Yeah, ain’t nobody got time for that. It’ll melt while i eat it anyways.

Personally I tend to only talk about things I’m sure about or have first hand experience in.
