Rather than get mad that Taylor has an obscene amount of money, let’s enjoy the joke on Donnie for not having as much as he pretended. Let’s try to be happy about that, sheesh. He’s being displayed as the fool he is and I’m gonna enjoy it.

Why Americans are bummed out about the economy (www.cnn.com)

US consumers remain unimpressed with this progress, however, because they remember what they were paying for things pre-pandemic. Used car prices are 34% higher, food prices are 26% higher and rent prices are 22% higher than in January 2020, according to our calculations using PCE data....

some_guy ,

Is it because of the economy? That’s my first guess.

I first thought it was a classroom full of people learning how to use Pro Tools.

I can’t use MacOS on it, because the battery was replaced by a third party and MacOS freaks out about it and locks the CPU to 400 MHz.

That’s fuckin’ evil. I like Apple’s platforms but holy shit.

My father told me that he worked on cars in a garage while he was getting his degree. He would stick study material under the cars while he worked on them. He also was able to get away with short naps under there. I doubt that’d work today, but just throwing out something I heard about.

I have an IT position that has an incredible amount of downtime. It’s a government org. I read books in between calls. You won’t be able to study if you get an IT gig at an MSP (Managed Service Provider). They have lots of clients and the work never ends. You want IT that’s in-house.

    Good luck!

My money’s just fine right here in my bank account. Plus some emergency cash in a drawer in my bedroom. I don’t know what the big deal is. Fuck 'em.

Netanyahu snaps back against growing US criticism after being accused of losing his way on Gaza (apnews.com)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu railed Sunday against growing criticism from top ally the United States against his leadership amid the devastating war with Hamas, describing calls for a new election as “wholly inappropriate.”...

This is the important detail. Europe was destroyed and the USA was able to flourish. Opportunities existed that will likely never exist again. Capitalism has never been as great as it was in the USA post-WWII.

Indian car insurance is expiring call around 2010. That was still kinda novel at the time. But before I read off my debit card number, I asked what model car I had. They hung up and I was saved.

Did that job for a summer. We had a huge map on the wall of our district. Holy shit, what a change.

I really wanna start selling those private citizen registration cards and passports. Those things would cost almost nothing. Pure profit. I just don’t want to help these morons in their stupid quest more than I want free money.

When conservative christians do it, it’s fighting wokeness. When conservative Muslims do it, it’s terrorism.

Hrm, I’m speculating here, but I wonder if we can guess her political affiliation?

War crimes. The commiter of war crimes has escaped punishment. This is what happened.

Less ready? We were caught with our pants down and a dick in a chicken.

When I first began learning HTML (way before CSS and the modern web), my most engaged moments were when things broke. Way more satisfying learning how to fix them than having it work right away. What a great observation / comment.

    Remember how they forced

And that’s when I stopped caring about your opinion. How can they force anything? Anyone can choose not to do so.

Oh, wait. I forgot about that time my RSS client held a gun to my head and forced me to shampoo with pudding.

Longtime Arch user, first time Debian enjoyer

As the title says, I’ve been using various flavours of Arch basically since I started with Linux. My very first Linux experience was with Ubuntu, but I quickly switched to Manjaro, then Endeavour, then plain Arch. Recently I’ve done some spring cleaning, reinstalling my OS’s. I have a pretty decent laptop that I got for...

    Finally got a UPS

Keeping tradition with doing things backwards, I’ve finally got a UPS for the rack (mounted in the bottom of the stack). Got a PowerWalker VI 2200R. Its a 2U unit which is all the space I’ve got left in the rack. Decent price and decent I/O with USB, serial and a slot-in for network expansion + 4 IEC outputs. Its powering...

I was so confused about a package delivery. I opened the thread, saw Self Hosted, and suddenly everything clicked.

Cheers to nice cable management. Don’t look at the mess below my desk.

One of the best first dates of my life was going to the Comic Museum in San Francisco. You could do worse than a comic book store. @skulkingaround has the best advice. Good luck!

I’ve never been afraid to fly because it was routine since I was a child. For the first time in my life, I’m apprehensive about it. Great job, corporations. And let’s not forget capitalism. The ever-present race for profits has a big role to play here.

That’s it. I’m getting off Lemmy to play a video game and forget about this stupid world. See you folks later.

Mushrooms are sold in head shops in Oakland, California. I understand that to be the case in a number of cities. You may be able to make your way to one of them.

    Truest statement.

    some_guy ,

No one has ever been more correct.

What's stopping people who lash out at the world from going after corporations?

Obviously violence isn’t ever the answer but I’m just curious, when people go nuts and decide to take life and cause terror, what makes their decision to attack something like say a school or a church/mosque, a sporting event. As far as I see it in this day and age the biggest stressors in our society are corporations yet...

Have you ever been evaluated by a psychiatrist? I used to have issues with insomnia and it turns out I’m neurodivergent (bi-polar). I was seeking sleeping pills and ended up entering treatment before I reached the point where it gets really messy (late 20s-early 30s). It’s manageable in part via a very rigid sleep-routine that only deviates if I go out with friends or go to a show / concert. And sleeping pills, but nothing like what I used to need to knock me out.

The Gaza conflict’s forgotten shipping crew held hostage in the Red Sea (www.cnn.com)

A Houthi-owned helicopter hijacked the Galaxy Leader cargo ship on November 19 in the Red Sea, as rebel gunmen laid siege to the vessel and took the ship’s crew of 17 Filipinos, two Bulgarians, three Ukrainians, two Mexicans and a Romanian hostage....

Those of you downvoting comments suggesting Israel stop their genocide are very small indeed. Fuck Israel.

Sweeney really comes off as an angry guy who sees only enemies. Apple (justified, even though I’m an Apple nerd), Valve… let’s find some more persecution-complex targets. Can we be mad at Steam? Let’s go!

    some_guy ,

I noticed right away, too. But I’m also a guy who frequently sends emails to people whose blog posts have a typo or obvious editing mistake so they can correct them. There are a few who thank me each time. Others might think I’m the most annoying type of person. I just know I hate when I miss a mistake in my own writing.

    some_guy ,

This will never be allowed to happen.

    some_guy ,

Make it an alternative OS before erasing your existing OS so you can switch back and forth and use the old one to research when something unexpected happens on your new one. This way you can transition slowly. Expect there to be challenges, but also expect to learn a lot. It’s a fantastic platform.

Debatable. San Francisco spends a billion dollars a year on homelessness. That’s unsustainable even for SF. Only 800,000 people live in SF.

The costs for locking up homeless people is greater than the cost of providing housing. The following quote is from a slapdash search; I haven’t read the document because my original source is a book, The End of Policing, and that book had multiple citations that I’m not listing here.

As identified in the chart above, the total cost of incarceration is estimated to be 25% higher than the total cost of providing equivalent supportive services to prevent recidivism.
