I want to choose Lemmy but I use Reddit more because Lemmy has technical problems, it keeps logging me out after days or few weeks, Reddit keeps my session for months or years

lil ,
@lil@lemy.lol avatar

Use -site:reddit.com if you don’t want to exclude sites that mention reddit

I use, but I believe biometrics should be used as username, not as password.

And anyone can distribute it for free as long as use different name and logo.

It turns on vibrate mode for me, and power + volume down makes a screenshot

People are actually on BlueSky

There's now a decent measurement of user numbers (https://bskycharts.edavis.dev/edavis.dev/bskycharts.edavis.dev/bsky_users_total.html) ...

They've got about 1.6M MAUs ...
& 0.8M Weekly unique users & 0.340M Daily.

That's not nothing!

Roughly double mastodon and 60% more than the whole fediverse (by MAUs, see fedidb.org).

Bluesky is quite "international" with large Japanese and Brazilian popltns, and there's real attrition happening IMO.

Still, let the protocol wars begin I suppose?

Bluesky is part of the fediverse. Isn’t it?

When I was a beginner and used Linux Mint, I downloaded deb files, and even rpm files that I converted to deb, because I didn’t know what package manager means

There is some Rust code that needs to be rewritten in C.

I don’t believe lemmy.ml’s are pro russian, at least not in that way.

I guess shell languages can’t do this:

<span style="color:#323232;">export EDITOR=case "$OSTYPE" in
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  linux*)
</span><span style="color:#323232;">    nano
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  ;;
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  freebsd*)
</span><span style="color:#323232;">    ee
</span><span style="color:#323232;">  ;;
</span>

When I create a Lemmy community it won’t be discoverable on other servers until someone on the server subscribes, how do you subscribe if you don’t even know it exists? I understand why posts are not sent to servers that have no subscribers of the community, but why doesn’t it at least send the name and description of the communities to other servers?

I want webpages to be open source, not compiled. That’s why I dislike WASM

lil ,

Parties? Why? What’s the alternative?

I’m not a fan of proprietary things like Discord, GitHub, Reddit, etc

I had to fix so many booting problems using live usb, grub, xorg, login managers, they’are all difficult

Lemmy.world Should Defederate with Threads

I think it’s pretty safe to say that the majority of us are here to avoid another corporate takeover of our preferred platforms. It would seem to me to be a tad irresponsible to allow Facebook into our space with open arms, allowing them to hoover up our data. I would love to keep using Lemmy.world, but will happily change...

Lemmy pull from mastodon if someone from mastodon mentions a user or community of lemmy instance

What would be a good name for a federated Wikipedia?

Let’s say someone created a Wikipedia clone with Activitypub support, so you can freely read and edit articles on other servers. Basically the same way that Lemmy works. What would be a good name for such a project? Bonus points if the name goes with a cute animal mascot....

My favourite instance is lemy.lol because it uses 0.19 rc version, has short domain name, and nice UI theme, and that’s why I choosed it for my account

I started using Lemmy since September 2022 I think, but I rarely open it, two weeks ago I was permabanned on reddit for report abuse, then semi-unbanned, so I deleted my account, and now I’m starting to use Lemmy actively, there are a lot more servers and users now and I found a new nice server.
