A non-zero percentage of the rightwing posters you will find online are very enthusiastic about warm water ports. Lemmy is small and new enough that the influence campaigns are not directed this way

Unfortunately you’re probably right

AMD has preemptively dropped support for Windows 10 on its new Ryzen AI 300 Series chips (www.tomshardware.com)

In another attempt to convince us that “AI PCs” are somehow fundamentally different from the PCs we’re already using, AMD has officially dropped support for Windows 10 from its new AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series platform. This can be observed by glancing at the official AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 specs page, which now only lists...

There’s money to be made when you know a company is going to tank. In fact there are people who specialize in bankrupting companies. When rich people commit fraud they don’t get in trouble

Feeling lost and with no direction, what skill should I learn?

Hi everyone. I am feeling like I’ve lost any direction after getting laid off earlier this year (was working as an analyst in telecom and very recently landed a much lower position in healthcare data entry due to necessity). I already have several hobbies but I am either burnt out on them or they have lost their luster...

There are some great suggestions here already. In addition to creative stuff, I personally think it’s super important to do something physical as well. I can’t list all of the positive effects weightlifting has had on my life since I picked it up. I feel physically and mentally so much better in pretty much every way possible. If it interests you at all let me know I can give you some reading suggestions

California law bars ex-LAPD officer Mark Fuhrman, who lied at OJ Simpson trial, from policing (apnews.com)

Former Los Angeles police detective Mark Fuhrman who was convicted of lying on the witness stand in the O.J. Simpson trial three decades ago, is now barred from law enforcement under a California police reform law meant to strip the badges of police officers who act criminally or with bias....

The distance from picking up the guitar to being able to play music is so far that most people give up before making it through. Building muscle memory and being able to finger those chords without fat fingering the other strings takes longer than you expect. You’re talking about trying to play a song when really you probably need a month on the open chords.

If you are over it then no shame in moving on. If you want to take one more crack at it you’ll have to slow down and just hyper focus on the basics. Or try ukulele! Ukulele is awesome because the cords are a lot easier and you’ll become a strumming master since you won’t be concentrating so hard on the chords. And then later down the line it would give you a good foundation if you take a crack at guitar again

In my opinion there is no such thing as natural talent. There is only practice and muscle memory. Once you’re up and running with robotic hands (Being able to play the chords without thinking about them, being able to strum a few patterns without thinking about them) It opens up the whole world of music and songs

zcd ,

Trade one of your guitars for ukulele ha

zcd ,

Yeah you explained it much better, They are so much fun! The five string banjo is also 4 strings when it comes to chords, a huge percentage of the skills you learn with these instruments translates to guitar

Was this community banned on lemmy.world? I was trying to access some bookmarked posts and comments but they weren't there.

As stated in the title, I went to some posts and comments that I had bookmarked for some media that I was trying to download. This was on my lemmy.world account. Turns out they’re gone. Doing some digging and found out this community was still up but wasn’t visible on lemmy.world. what happend?

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as BSD, is in fact, FreeBSD/NetBSD/OpenBSD, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, BSD-based operating systems. BSD is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning BSD-based system made useful by the BSD kernel, libc, and other essential components of a complete OS.

Many computer users run a modified version of the BSD system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of BSD which is widely used today is often called “FreeBSD,” and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the BSD system, developed by the FreeBSD Project.

There really is a BSD, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. BSD is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. BSD is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with BSD added, or GNU/BSD. All the so-called “BSD” distributions are really distributions of GNU/BSD!

It’s a really good, slightly bare bones initially but completely modular/customizable. If it’s your first foray into Linux something like Debian, Mint or PopOS would be a slightly more comfortable starting point
