This is most often an effect of collective bargaining between unions and the company, not their gesture of goodwill. Teleperformance, a massive global shared service was recently forced to do that by Uni Global Union.

Everyone wants a cool origin story I guess.

Also we moved from “that looks similar-ish” to analysis of fossiles and their evolution + genetic research.

But I, and thats a fact, know very little about that, and come from times when dinosaurs did not wear any fancy feathers.

Time for an ICQ for the Fediverse?

Looks like ICQ is finally shutting down, just as interest in retro internet tools is growing.

Researchers documented the first North American cetacean case of avian influenza in a Florida dolphin, underscoring the need for further research on this cross-species virus transmission.

The case of a Florida bottlenose dolphin found with highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, or HPAIV — a discovery made by University of Florida researchers in collaboration with multiple other agencies and one of the first reports of a constantly growing list of mammals affected by this virus — has been published in Communications Biology.

No idea if this can be secure in any reasonable way, but one way communication based on cheap devices and available frequencies could be quite attractive for activist mass mobilisations, or disaster releasee 🤔

So I finally did the math on data brokerage and worked out how much we're all being robbed

I know this isn’t strictly piracy related, I apologise, but I think it is tangentally related in that piracy protects you from data theft by avoiding the services the biggest thieves operate. Also, I feel like people here might be very interested in this take....

Would that factor in the [unknown] costs of that revenue? Running all the servers (incl youtube), offices and staff aint cheap. So more likely some is paying enough to leave 23USD on top of massive costs.

I still have a lot of love for Mozilla, maybe since I’ve started using… Mozilla and even some of the recent steps of the management did not change that. But it would seem doing something like idk - integrating Fediverse elements into the browser, or pushing the concept further in some other way would be a bigger step forward, than launching an instance. Still good, sounds like a no-brainer to have one for staff/supporters, but does not push this concept as far as Mozilla has the potential to. Unless that’s an element of some bigger plan I’ve missed?

Yeah, I’m rather to eastern-european for a amarican. And there’s more guesswork in the article than there is any relation to logic. Guy states defense gives massive advantage, points out what decides of battlefields, and then glides over the issue of how that will favor Ukraine, particularly in winter, and trips out about what might have happened during some talks, but really he has nothing to back it up either way. Same as for the threefold increase in production. Or how Putin would go about mobilizing this massive population, even if he bothered to check the demography stats of it’s age, or considered why they seem to be very afraid to do so.

I’d be quite interested in a well researched article on Russian chances of winning, but this is some conservative rag bullshit.

I had some of my classes (14-15yr olds) assemble their own computers as the first class. It was cheap junk anyway, and I was willing to risk it, but it set the stage for the year. I dont think I got them to install system on it (whole school run on Linux btw), thats a great touch. And making it into something that entertaining, and stereotypes breaking is brilliant!

The article doesn’t differentiate between firing at perceived thread and hitting some party-goers and opening fire at the party-goers en mass, and them being killed only by IDF and not at all by Hamas. As much as I can easily believe IDF killed at least some this reeks of propaganda.

With BlueSky moving towards finally opening up federation, I'm interested in how people feel about it?

Would you be open to the idea of Mastodon, Lemmy, Pixelfed, and other Fediverse platforms adopting the AT protocol in order to federate with it?

If those technical hurdles could be overcome, would you support your instance federating with BlueSky?

Does the same go for other commercially-owned platforms, such as Threads and Tumblr?

From what I'm seeing support was voiced for the state, not for it's communist party. In Russia they have 57 out of 450 in the lower chamber and 4 out of 178 in the higher chamber, in Belarus it's 11 out of 110 and 17 out of 64 (thanks to over-representation of state sanctioned trade unions, independent ones were destroyed after last elections). So what exact power over state politics do you expect they have and how representative is these states policy for communism?

I get the NATO bashing, but thinking either Russia or Belarus have anything in common with the concept of communism, other than history, is hilarious and strongly encourage you to discuss this with Russia-based communists. Wont go into discussing the nature of post-soviet communist parties as I have no time to educate westeners on the complex realities of this region, please do find someone from the region who you will trust enough to actually consider what they tell you.

harcesz ,
@harcesz@szmer.info avatar

Then ask them about the average age of these party members and their actual influence on social life and state policy. Like what actual policies they got through. In reality these parties are walking corpses of state sanctioned mostly ruled by yesteryear's apparatchiks.
I've been living under one roof with Belarusians and Russians for over 10 years in a country bordering both, but love hearing explanations of what I'm seeing from such very well informed sources like your comments.

Also love your play with semantics, but could just as well claim there's anarchism in this countries, since there are active anarchist groups. Or they are antifascist states, since there's armed antifa militants in them, as that was the only way not to get killed by kremlin-aligned neonazi groups.

I'm not a statist (neither an anarchist), but these people you are trying to defend are traitors of their people, their communities, and their class. Russian mafia oligarchy is not better than the one thats being fought against in Ukraine by it's social movements. Its worse, for it's imperialism even if you imagine it has Soviet rather than it's true Tzarist sources.

harcesz ,
@harcesz@szmer.info avatar

@DerPapa69 The fact that this instance often bans people for countering your imperialist world-view created a bubble where you might think it’s the libs that you speak out against. In reality it’s not only radicals that you write of but it’s also our comrades, long time antifa, anarchist and communist militants that are dying fighting back against yet another imperialist incursion into CEE from Russia. No amount of western ignorance, privilege and lack of education will stop us from struggling for our right to self-determination, solidarity with the refugees from Ukraine and all victims of this invasion or the broader struggle against a centuries long oppression of our peoples.
