Help with HDD

I have a 4TB HDD that I use to store music, films, images, and text files. I have a 250GB SDD that I use to install my OS and video games. So far I didn’t have any problem with this setup, obviously it’s a bit slower when it reads the HDD but nothing too serious, but lately it’s gotten way worse, where it just lags too...

I used journalctl -k -f and this is the output, I’ve also tried dmesg and smartctl and replied with the output on other comments, and all show some kind of I/O error, I guess I’m fucked or can it be because of a bad cable or something?

So, yesterday I was trying to install Fedora on a PC with an Nvidia graphics card, it is a bit old and it has an Intel CPU. Basically as soon as I booted the USB it went all weird like if it would be having a graphical glitch like going all rainbow in some parts and stop responding, I tried a few more times under a UEFI secure...

I honestly rather not install nouveau since iknow it can cause issues and i wouldnt mind installing nvidias proprietary drivers if it makes it work since its not even for me

do you know if i should install the 470xx or the one just called nvidia drivers in the app store?

ill give it a try to the rest tho, thanks!

What's the best way to have a .bashrc that I can use throughout systems?

So, I just found out about a programme called SynthShell which kind of does the work for you and gives you a nice looking shell, the thing is that this also creates some config files and other stuff in my system, instead of just one .bashrc file to edit. What would be the best way to learn to have a nice looking bash where I can...

gary_host_laptop OP ,

I think I maybe phrased it horribly, my question was more like, what do I need to learn in order to modify myself the .bashrc by myself instead of using a programme. Does it make sense?

Yeah, recently after posting this I went down a rabbit hole and found out about zsh and fish and I kind of like fish so I’m thinking about going straight to that, what a hard choice.

I was using a similar guide, and it also talked about the locale.gen, but that file was never to be found, I just searched a bit more into that and this popped up. So it seems Fedora handles things differently, but now I’m unsure what commands to execute since I’m not sure the ones in that thread are also valid for me.

gary_host_laptop OP ,
@gary_host_laptop@lemmy.ml avatar

I think it’s pure luck what font does your OS prefer, I was using Pop_OS and it defaulted to Japanese, but I think it’s more common to default to Chinese because of the population size.

gary_host_laptop OP ,
@gary_host_laptop@lemmy.ml avatar

Well, in Firefox’s settings there’s an option to use my own fonts instead of the web site, so I don’t think it’s related to anything like that, but rather some setting within the OS, related to locale config files.

gary_host_laptop OP ,
@gary_host_laptop@lemmy.ml avatar

I was trying to do that but I’m unsure what to edit to do that, since most tutorials are using either a Debian based or Arch distro.

Not this time it seems.

Xenia wouldn't suggest that :c (lemmy.world)

please don’t harrass or insult that website, but I recently browsed that website because I wanted to get a wallpaper, but then I realized the top bar was saying “Xenia suggests you get Firefox”, wait what?? She wouldn’t suggest that first of all, second, this means that the website knows if you are using Google or...

I wonder what’s the difference between this and Fly Pie, like, why did he stop developing the first and started the latter.

How can I download this web comic? (www.unicornjelly.com)

So, I would like to have a copy of this in maybe a .cbr or .pdf or whatever, but for it to also keep a little bit of its essence, like the background and also sometimes it has like parallel dimensions so right after one part it goes to another dimension so its hard to download, would it make more sense to save it as a website or...

Sometimes it’s more than one deep link, I think at some points it’s like, the alternative universe starts and it might go on for about 10 pages and then you can go back to the next page of the regular timeline.

Could be, she’s been kind of out of the loop for some time so I think that part might be a bit difficult, I think most of what she did was around the 2000s and 2010s.

I guess I could try asking in dbzer0, the lemmy instanne for piracy.

I’m from Argentina, the prices we have now are absolutely ridiculous even with the LATAM USD, an Argentinian might have a monthly income of something around 250-350USD, and some games are something along the lines of 40USD even with the regional pricing, you need to add to that the fact that there is a tax on the dollar of 155%. I assume a normal person from the US earns something along the lines of 1500-3000USD a month, so it’s completely incomparable. To give you an idea, physical retro collectible games are cheaper than virtual ones.

Bring Six-Axis now /s

I think it wasn’t used enough or not creatively enough in the PS3, the only one that comes to mind is Heavenly Sword and its implementation was a bit poor and I’m unsure if it was the Six-Axis fault.

They are dropping regional prices, before that you would pay in your regional currency which is far cheaper than paying in USD, plus, a lot of developers don’t care about those regional prices or don’t care to update them, in those cases you end up paying the same as you’d in the US. What in the US may be a sandwich in the third world can be a big portion of your income.

Plus tanks work better in the winter and Russia has quite a few of them which are cheap and easy to deploy.

Yes, because the US has never been involved in imperialism in Latinamerica, this has to be fake because US good.

Yeah, like, the US should stop producing so many guns and do something about school shootings and start feeding their poor and homeless. I’ve read about Atlanta I think and there are giant camps of homeless people living in tents. Utterly disgusting.

Hiroshima marks a-bomb anniversary, calls nuclear deterrence "folly" (www.reuters.com)

TOKYO, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Japan on Sunday marked the 78th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing on Hiroshima, where its mayor urged the abolition of nuclear weapons and called the Group of Seven leaders' notion of nuclear deterrence a "folly".

Yes, Western governments that fund terrorist groups in “enemies of the State” that later turn against the US and the US “needs” to go an invade those countries to “liberate” the region.

You are right, they’re only the biggest and more illustrious example of such behaviour.

@gary_host_laptop@lemmy.ml avatar

How would you prevent the US from doing such things? That would mean turning Europe against its biggest ally and it’s not something I see feasible, giving they are the country that most wars and invasions has caused, and the fact that throughout history Europe hasn’t done anything to prevent such things tells me it’s not something that’s going to change. Your example only works because it’s a common enemy for both the US and Europe.

Do you mean like when Julian Assange published papers demonstrating that the US soldiers were killing civilians for fun and then they extradited him, imprisoned, also imprisoned Manning and wanted to keep everything a mistery?

Releasing files of black ops you did 50 years ago is not being open about it, the US would never publish black ops they are doing now because otherwise it would undermine the effects of such proxy wars. Furthermore, much of what we now is not so much releasing that information but because there are brave whistleblowers who release information regarding the war crimes.

Still, I don’t see how the fact that some other countries do maybe similar stuff, since again it is all theories since until information is released we cannot confirm anything (not that I doubt some countries do fund military groups) that doesn’t make my statement that the West has the biggest and most illustrious history of funding terrorist groups in what they deem enemies of the West.

Hawai’i, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, northern Mexico which is now Texas, all of this without taking into account that the US is itself a settler state that massacred all its indigenous population and that literally inspired Nazi Germany. I haven’t even mentioned territories which are still colonies to this day by Europe by the way.
