World demands end to Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine in landslide UN vote (geopoliticaleconomy.com)

The vast majority of the world voted at the UN General Assembly to demand an end to Israel’s unlawful occupation of Palestinian territory within 12 months, with 124 countries (64%) in favor, 14 (7%) against, and 43 (22%) abstentions....

Oh shit forgot about that. I was in high school when we figured that out.

but the towns are too embarrassed to talk about it, but black people are eating dogs.

Is that a direct quote?

Cars are not a good example of what you are talking about. Deaths are much much lower than they used to be.

Ohhhh I get it. The guy hated the stress of Mondays, so he killed Prez Garfield, who is later reincarnated as Garfield the cat who now hates Mondays because they remind him of his assassination.

Why is Kamala Harris being held at such a higher standard than Trump this election?

It feels like Harris has to run a damn near flawless campaign just to BARELY beat this guy. Yeah you can bring up the current state of the country, but Trump mishandled COVID, there were over 200k deaths, BLM protest and was 2x impeached. And yet, Joe Biden BARELY beat him....

“See! She’s not perfect, so you cant criticize trump for any of his flaws or you are a hypocrite!”

How can I get a screw like this out? (sh.itjust.works)

I decided on cleaning my laptop fans today, which I’ve been procrastinating for about a year now because of this one screw. But I just can’t seem to open this with my screwdriver, since whatever I did back when I last opened it it’s nearly circular now. Is there a way to unscrew this?

gibmiser ,

Take the drill bit out of your drill. Open the chuck up all the way and place it over the screw. If there is enough screw head there you might be able to grab it with the drill and just unscrew.

Edit: looking at the other picture makes me think it is recessed and that wouldn’t work then.

Part of a stress breakdown I had was caused by that mindset allowing myself to be stretched too thin at work.

New Grant? Boss we can’t handle that in addition to everything we already do!

A few months later - What do you mean we got the grant, boss?

Do you have a form of government you invented/conceived, either as an idea or for fiction (or a favorite from someone else)? How does it work?

As kids, we’re told only people who go to college/university for politics/economics/law are qualifiable to make/run a country. As adults, we see no nation these “qualified” adults form actually work as a nation, with all manifesto-driven governments failing. Which to me validates the ambitions of all political theorist...

gibmiser ,

Part of one - inflationary tax. Eliminate most all forms of tax. Instead only way to fund anything is to print money.

Money earned through criminal enterprise, once found is taken and “destroyed” (excluding damages to victims).

Negatives that go punished reduce inflation and benefit everyone.

This is a regressive tax so it would require a very assertive socialist support system with liberal spending on jobs and education for poor folks.

No tax breaks for big companies because no taxes. There is no such thing as a balanced budget since there is no revenue, only things we decide are worth paying for.

Would require regular currency adjustments. Still haven’t figured that part out yet. Maybe every 10 years decide how many zeros to take off everyone’s money and have a process for upgrading paper currency while most will be handled through banks.

I spent ~$35 on new cables and my LAN speed increased 6x

After seeing that my wireless speeds were much faster than the speeds I was getting over Ethernet, I decided to invest in some new cables. I didn’t know it before, but I saw while I was changing them out that my current cables were Cat 5e. While putting my network together, I had just been grabbing whatever cables I could find...

Forest Service orders Arrowhead bottled water company to shut down California pipeline (www.latimes.com)

I bet someone could make a hallway look like this with current tech.

How do I deal with feelings towards my sister? (Genuine advice please)

For context: My family isn’t the richest and we live in a super rural area. Our house is a small 1 story home with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. My parents take 1 room and I (14 m almost 15) share a room with my older sister (17 f) which can be kinda annoying. We also share a bed which is normal for us since we’ve been sleeping...

gibmiser ,

Yeah, your parents are setting you up for this.

You could try talking to your parents and asking for bunk beds like the other poster said, but unless you explain the attraction they might just say no.

If your parents are reasonable people I bet it can be fixed by telling them “ever since I hit puberty sharing a room with sister has gotten harder, and i really can’t share a bed with her anymore, i cant control parts of my body and it’s super embarrassing and weird.”

Not fun, but that should do it.

Outsourcing emotion: The horror of Google’s “Dear Sydney” AI ad | The company suggests using AI to write a child’s fan letter and the ad is so bad that Google turned off comments for it on YouTube (arstechnica.com)

If you’ve watched any Olympics coverage this week, you’ve likely been confronted with an ad for Google’s Gemini AI called “Dear Sydney.” In it, a proud father seeks help writing a letter on behalf of his daughter, who is an aspiring runner and superfan of world-record-holding hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone....

gibmiser ,

So in the spring I got a letter from a student telling me how much they appreciate me as a teacher. At the time I was going through some s***. Still am frankly. So it meant a lot to me.That was such a nice letter.

I read it again the next day and realized it was too perfect. Some of the phrasing just didn’t make sense for a high school student. Some of the punctuation.

I have no doubt the student was sincere in their appreciation for me, But once I realized what they had done It cheapened those happy feelings. Blah.
