Why would somebody want to steal my login credentials‽‽

@Aatube@kbin.social avatar

The installation process has been pretty simple since archinstall and endeavourOS. The "sometimes" happens rarely, and the forums and mailing lists are pretty helpful.

The only times when an update broke a lot of stuff for me is 1. The infamous grub update which never happened again 2. Thunderbird dropped GTK support, not an Arch problem 3. I didn't update for quite a while and had to do package replacements, which were automated by the package manager but was scary 4. Budgie and GNOME conflicted with each other. Weren't very significant

Flatpaks are isolated while I want to use my input method. Plus, they have larger sizes which can pile up over time

Aatube ,
@Aatube@kbin.social avatar

I think they want you to talk about the other aspects of use, such as compatibility with hardware an whether there can be significant productivity roadblocks. (That said, the only said roadblock I've met is not being able to project and not being able to run a specific Android app)

New packages on flathub are moderated, though I haven't encountered any problems from AUR's moderation model either other than it sometimes being slow but harmful stuff is removed pretty fast

Aatube , (edited )
@Aatube@kbin.social avatar

Users don't contribute builds. They contribute a specification file for how the build is made, which through the AUR is downloaded and executed. You can see the package source for every AUR package, and most AUR helpers make you look at the specification file by default.

Is it worth buying the Mac keyboard for a dedicated Linux PC instead of the windows one?

What is your personal preference based on experience? I Assume because Mac is Unix and Linux is Unix based, it would be more suited, but I have no personal experience with the layout. I am willing to try something new if i hear enough merits for it, and I also find the windows layout somewhat inadequate(The grass is greener on...

Aatube ,

You can buy a normal (or better yet, English-International) keyboard without the Windows key without confusing yourself with new layout conventions.

A device disguised as a games console - known as an “emulator” - is being exploited by thieves to steal vehicles within 20 seconds by mimicking the electronic key.

Don't they use rolling codes? So I suppose this emulator is some malware you install on your phone

But by managing stock over IoT one can minimize the amount of visits to only when machines need restocking, instead of also having to go to check stock

Dear God, bad headline

Rolling out isn't a forced update. Microsoft uses machine learning to determine when a computer should receive a big feature update. These are gradual, similar to how how Steam staggers your game updates by default. Machines qualified by the model to have a "good" upgrade experience get updated first. This is to 1. not strain global delivery and local networks too much 2. be able to stop the rollout if anything goes wrong.

All the message they analyzed from MS meant was that as the EOL of previous Win11 version nears, they're starting to rollout the update to all PCs. You can still disable automatic updates.

Aatube ,
@Aatube@kbin.social avatar

That's what the article actually means beneath the clickbait: They're going to start offer 23H2 to all PCs, not just these that their ML model thinks have had a "good" update experience. See my comment above.

To get the latest versions, just turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available,” and select Check for updates, which is what the article quoted.

Aatube ,
@Aatube@kbin.social avatar

That's very understandable. I also hate Windows, but not to the point of fake headlines.

Aatube ,
@Aatube@kbin.social avatar

dataisbeautiful has certainly fallen. A year or two ago I decided to remove most of the feel-bad subs I've subscribed to and replace them with feel-good ones (to prolong my lifespan, obviously >:) ). You can't really go wrong with feel-good subs much, in my experience. I still occasionally go on Reddit to browse my /sub frontpage, which includes certain niches (actually just two that I consider pretty important), with uBO on, and I have also been subscribing to some new subs. My favorite recent discoveries are r/CalvinAndHobbes and r/cpp.

TIL Joseph Stalin was struck by a sport carriage and severely injured at age 12, which a certain source cited by the Simple English Wikipedia took as his father dying in a drunken brawl (en.wikipedia.org)

The incorrect book. Note that his father only died in 1909 of liver issues. Jughashvili was upset when he learned that Keke had enrolled Ioseb in school, instead hoping his son would follow his path and become a cobbler. This led to a major incident in January 1890. Ioseb had been struck by a phaeton, severely injuring him....

I bought an old iPad2 for the purpose of viewing a Home Assistant dashboard via a web browser.
