I’m not from Philadelphia, but I though the two acceptable cheeses were cheese whiz and provolone.

TwentySeven ,

This is absurd. Federal law always takes precedence, even if it’s a section of a state constitution versus a law passed by Congress. Period.

I’m on the pro-choice side, I don’t think it’s fair to make that statement without mentioning the 10th amendment.

Why? I have no reason for my phone screen to be on while it’s in my pocket

TwentySeven ,

I know, my phone has this feature and I think it’s pointless. Why do I need my screen to be on if I’m not using my phone?

It’s doesn’t matter if you want to go to court. Your future employer doesn’t want to go to court on behalf of a new hire, so they won’t hire you in the first place.

RFK Jr. Swears He Wasn’t Thirsty for Fitness Influencer on TikTok (gizmodo.com)

The reply happened in Sept. 2022 on Tyler Idol’s account, which she now has pinned to her page, and was unearthed by some right-wing dork on X Wednesday. The reply is now deleted, but according to saved recordings, it simply stated “Wow” and was accompanied by two smiling faces with hearts emoji. As for how you can tell it...

Typesetting is actually correct. In the days of the printing press, it was not feasible to have type blocks for single punctuation marks. The blocks would be too small and fragile. Punctuation marks were appended to the end of the letter. Instead of having a single block with a period (.) they had a block for each letter of the alphabet with a period. (a.), (b.), etc.

Making blocks for both (“,) and (,”) was an unnecessary expense, so they went with (,"), and the convention stuck.

I thought it was from when people wore “driving gloves” back in the day

TwentySeven ,

Eh, after looking it up, I was correct. So I will continue thinking that.

TwentySeven ,

Intuitively it doesn’t even make sense in this case though. Biden is running as the safe ordinary establishment candidate. Trump and RFK Jr are going for the right wing wacko conspiracy theory crowd.

Unless I see data to the contrary, I’m going to assume that RFK Jr siphons more votes from Trump.

TwentySeven ,

I thought that’s why they call it a hammer drill

TwentySeven ,

Empirical means based on data. The word you are looking for is imperial.

Also, metric measurements are in base 10, so you have it backwards.

What are Some Good, Recent, and Available Dumb Cars?

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla. She’s been my trusty steed for the last 14 years and is in good working order. I recognize she won’t last forever, and if, god forbid (mostly for her) I get in an accident, I will need to get a new car. So what dumb cars do you drive, and what would you replace them with?

TwentySeven ,

They don’t make much profit off gas, but they do own it. They pay several thousand dollars when the truck comes to fill up the tanks, and they make that money back when they sell it. I’ve never heard of gas on consignment, or whatever you are talking about

Using someone else’s license plate is a felony I’m pretty sure

Where I live, you have to be 21 to enter a liquor store

TwentySeven ,

Just because they’re made in the same factor doesn’t mean they are made to the same specifications. Often the store brand foods are made with cheaper ingredients, even if it’s on the same assembly line

TwentySeven ,

Not quite. Separating children from families started under Obama, after the courts ruled that family detention centers were illegal.

TwentySeven ,

Yes, he harmed the interests of the US government, but he’s an Australian Citizen. I don’t understand why he would be subject to US laws. Hell, why not try to extradite Putin while they’re at it? Makes no fucking sense to me.

TwentySeven ,

Not the person you are replying to, but it don’t think it matters if the victim is American – the US has the right to prosecute it’s own citizens. (You can’t kill an illegal immigrant – they may not have constitutional rights, but murder is still illegal)

Seems like they could just write a different contact for the DoD

It added maybe $10/month in the summer for air conditioning.

I live in Alabama, and I found that amusing

TwentySeven ,

I have never in my life heard this before. What if the window fogs up and you have to turn the defrost on?

TwentySeven ,

Serious answer from a non fundamentalist Christian: Because the old testament laws were intended for a specific society, to pave the way for Jesus. They were also a mix of religious rules and secular laws. They weren’t (all) intended to be universal moral laws that apply to all of humanity.

TwentySeven ,

I’ve been seeing a lot of this lately and I agree, it definitely feels like an astroturf campaign.

Most single issue voters are focused on domestic issues such as abortion or the economy. And you would think that someone who cares so much about Israel would also be worried about other aspects of foreign policy such as Ukraine.

The premise is so dumb that it’s laughable. And I think it speaks to Biden’s success as a president that this is the best campaign they can come up with.

TwentySeven ,

If they are somebody else’s tomatoes you need a thieving license.

TwentySeven ,

Didn’t people make a big deal over jfk running for president because he was Catholic?
