Tesla’s profits sank sharply in the second quarter of 2024 | The company’s revenue increased by 2 percent compared to last year, but profits are down 45 percent year over year (www.theverge.com)

Tesla published its second quarter earnings report, in which the company said it earned $1.48 billion in net income on $25.5 billion in revenue. That represents a 2 percent increase year over year compared to $24.9 billion in revenue in Q2 2023 but a 45 percent drop in net income....

It should be highly illegal to pay anyone double a company’s revenue let alone income

more people would buy a $3000 Apple monitor than VR. Lest we forget they sold a $1000 monitor stand and $700 pc wheels. I just looked and the Pro Display (XDR? what the hell is that?) is $5000. A 32 inch 16:9 display.

How would I troubleshoot an AC unit that isn't working well.

I’m in a rental right now with a useless landlord, so I’m trying to fix the problem myself (or at least find the cause). My home’s central air AC unit is working, but doesn’t seem to be working well. There is cool air coming from the vents, but its less than I would expect, and when its 80f/27c outside, its rarely more...

If you're thinking about something and reach a conclusion that's super outside the mainstream, you could be right, but also could mean you should reinspect your assumptions.

I saw a post on lemmy about how we could prevent 133 holocausts by promoting animal rights and veganism. The article opened by doing some math about how many dogs you could torture and kill in order to be equivalent to taking a human life, and then how many animals humans kill, and concluded that we’re committing holocaust...

The boxes are much larger than the GPU so they can surround them with dense foam. But yes the current ones can be over 300 mm long and 2kg

Do developers still make different games for different consoles? I thought the Xbox X was just a stronger Xbox One. Does MS disable these high quality graphics options in the menus?

If there was enough funding or political backing anything could get done by 2050. That’s a huge amount of time. Any time someone mentions a climate goalpost like that they are pulling the cloth over your eyes

Fiber internet was invented around the 80s. I only got fiber installed at my house a month ago. Most homes around here still have expensive low bandwidth cable. For cloud gaming to actually work you would need to upgrade the world’s internet infrastructure to an incredible degree. This article highlights the issue (in the US, one of the most developed countries)

What do you all check instead of the news?

I’ve realized that I check the news several times a day but not because I’m curious about what’s happening on the grand scheme of things, but because my brain wants to check something that keeps changing with new, evolving information. It fills a slightly different niche than social media, and I don’t watch sports so I...
