It's like somewhere in the ancient past someone wished that stupidity was painful, but forgot to specify who it should be painful for.

There's a new theory that the ramps were actually internal. I like it because it means they don't need to bring a lot of extra material and manpower to the site just for the ramps since they're built into the structure of the same material.

It's a fake out. The boat sees it flying away and stands down then BOOM.

(Also, since it's a flying boat I don't know how they'd have an internal bay without a lot of water infiltration.)

It depends on the car. If I see a nice looking expensive car I don't think they're an asshole. Seeing something amazing is a treat for a gearhead like me, no matter how bitter I am.

The Cybertruck, however, is ugly as fuck. Unless your aesthetic is 80s low-poly video games it is even uglier in person than pictures. The fact that something that ugly costs that much is almost insulting.

Fewer people in the US plan to buy EVs this year, study shows (www.reuters.com)

The number of buyers in the U.S. considering an electric vehicle purchase in 2024 has fallen from a year ago due to a shortage of affordable cars, inadequate charging infrastructure and ignorance about EV benefits, a study by J.D. Power, opens new tab has shown....

The options are basically an SUV with a giant touch screen and data harvesting, plus a cell phone connection so they can brick your car with a software update. None of that is appealing to me.

Shipbuilding and car manufacturing both have extensive defense applications. They'll keep both around because if there's a war they need a local industry.

The judge made a good point: Trump never denied the sex happened. If they had, he could have struck that part of her testimony. But they never denied it happened, have never taken any legal action to stop her from saying it, and didn't bother raising any questions about it on cross-examination.

It's like Trump's lawyers expect the judge to do their job for them.

The trial isn't about Trump having sex or paying for sex, but violating finance laws. If they had denied the sex then it wouldn't be relevant to the case.

American citizens need to get used to the idea that their tax dollars will kill innocent people, both domestically and internationally, and that stopping it even temporarily requires massive protest and economic disruption.

If you aren't ashamed to be an American, you haven't studied enough history.

I remember when commercial breaks were the time when you went to the bathroom/got snacks and then ran back and jumped over the couch to get back before the show started again.

But most ads don't work on a conscious level. They're there to make whatever is being advertised seem normal and good, like birds singing in the trees, background noise you associate with good feelings. The point isn't to get people to engage rationally. The point is to elicit positive emotions and associate them with a brand.

I don't think I'm going to ever buy a car made after 2020. Maybe earlier. None of the new features really appeal to me, and there are a lot of things like this that actively turn me off from wanting a new car.

If they could just give me an electric version of a 1985 VW Golf I'd be happy as a clam. But they want to put me in some lumpy, heavy, clumsy CUV with tracking technology and all the touchscreens and I don't like it.

They heat up quickly and they’re very easy to clean.

I keep seeing people say this as a benefit of glass-top electrics, but this has never been the case with any one of those I've used. A boil-over invariably leaves a grimy black ring that can't be scrubbed off even with hours of scrubbing. So they end up looking grimy.

Meanwhile, my sealed gas burners are easy to get clean. I just sweep up the crumbs and then dump some boiling water and a couple drops of dish soap and wipe it up.

Semi-Hemi-Demigod ,
@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

I have an induction hot plate and while it's great for boiling water or searing steak it will invariably burn anything I attempt to cook on low because it just uses high heat for a shorter amount of time instead of doing a constant lower power.

I'm probably going to get an induction stove next, but I'm not buying one that I don't get to test out first to avoid this. I really hope the full-size ones don't do this but I don't trust companies on principle and they'll do something stupid like that to save money.

Semi-Hemi-Demigod ,
@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

I've used both cheap steel pans and cast iron, and while the effect is less it still turns my sweated onions into sauteed onions intermittently. I'm glad to hear that mine is just built cheaply and that proper induction tops can handle consistent low temperature better. Still not buying one without trying it, though

Honestly, I would love a stove that's just a 3" thick steel top with induction burners on one side. There would be a steady temperature gradient the whole way across, and pans of any size, shape, or material could be put anywhere on the surface for just the right amount of heat.

Semi-Hemi-Demigod ,
@Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social avatar

I'm using a non-scratching scrubbing pad and the recommended stovetop cleaner. I can get most of the worst of it, but there's always a ring of carbonized food that just sticks around.
