I inderstand fully. I used ti go through the same. At the same time I noticed a big difference when i got married. And a huge one when i had kids. Having a child and being responsible for it is a life changing situation. I tell my self that i became an adult not when i turned 18 but when i became a parent. When this happened to me, my perspective about work stoped revolving about being the best, and turbed to be just and help others be better. That made me soon to realize that those 2 cannot get always together.

Tldr: work 2 live > live 2 work

The increase in energy consumption globally is still bigger than the increase of energy production from renewables. When this happens, hopefully soon, we will start seing reductions in fossil fuel, and especially oil, cosumption. The adoption of EVs will increase further as soon as bettery cosy falls further, wich is expected in the next few years due to increased supply of lithium and thecnologiasl breakthroughs in EV energy mangement

Lets cross our fingers

I know that unfortunately it’s not going to happen.

I also know that there are numerous NGOS and less fortunate people who could really take advantage of using a pc and use it for a good cause or just enjoy it.

I also realise that there is a great number of students, even in the developed world, who could use a laptop for school and fun as well by running Linux.

instead of throwing the hardware away it could be repurposed.

Also i could use a couple of new old pcs to build a NAS for local cloud and jellyfish as well as a Batocera based emulation console for my living room.

“I hate so fucking much how little customer service companies are allowed to have”.

It’s not a mater of how much customer service they’re allowed, rather than how much they choose to have. In most cases they choose to have close to none because it’s more profitable for them, so its in the best short term interest of their share holders. And yes, in most corporations, long term is thex quarter

Just wait until they find out public schools are giving their children dihydrogen monoxide without asking for parental approval.

You can’t give dihydrogen monoxide to children. Fish fuck in it when there are large quantities of it.

‘Energy independent’ Uruguay runs on 100% renewables for four straight months (theprogressplaybook.com)

People should literally stay away from this town, and drive around it. It’s simply unacceptable for any municipality to work or either exist this way. It’s better for everyone besides the 221 people living there not to ever visit or even passthrough the place

I completely agree on giving UBI to everyone, Imagine a world without artists. Without movies, TV shows, theaters, musicals, museums, books, music, sculpture, paintings, architecture.

Imagine how dull everything would be, without the creativity and imagination of these people out to use. But nowaday people just say Y0u_sH0uLd_sTuDy_SoMeThInG_t0_hAvE_iNc0mE, ignoring the consequences of the absence of arts

Hopefully by 2025 gaming in Linux will be greatly improved even more. Until then I’ll keep using Windows 10 and I’ll start saving for an AMD card

I also use Nvidia GPUs on Windows. The thing is that They tend to have driver issues on Linux.

I’m also very disappointed with the closed architecture of their software, their recent price hiking in Europe and the fact that they stop supporting older GPUs

TL’DR. I don’t have a bad experience on Windows. At the same time it’s hard to switch to Linux, they dont have open source drivers and they don’t have long term support for their products by turning them obsolete through software

May I suggest the use of ZigBee protocol devices instead of WiFi or Tuya. You will need a ZigBee dongle in HA but it will work locally without cloud intervals.Zigbee also creates a mesh network , so it has less connectivity issues. It should be noted that not all kinds of sensors and devices use the ZigBee protocol.

Samsung joins Google in RCS shaming Apple (www.theverge.com)

Samsung has released a new video in support of Google’s #GetTheMessage campaign which calls for Apple to adopt RCS or “Rich Communication Services,” the cross-platform protocol pitched as a successor to SMS that adopts many of the features found in modern messaging apps… like Apple’s own iMessage.

MrSilkworm ,
@MrSilkworm@lemmy.world avatar

I think this issue is mostly a USA one, considering that most communications there have caps (data, phone time, SMS etc.) Paradoxically, the market there doesn’t work very well and prices are relatively high. Big corporations take advantage of it to lock people to their ecosystems. There is a high probability that this issue, will be regulated by the EU, since US policy makers are unable to solve much more important problems. For them this is not an issue. The market has solved it.

That would be good, considered the user could actually have a choose to opt out the telemetry. Windows don’t ask you about gathering data for telemetry or “other” reasons.

Your family is not eccentric. It’s exceptional. There is a big difference. Unfortunately people are afraid of that,that seems different to what they are accustomed. When they cannot do something the other can, they ridicule it. Being bullied feels like shit. Be there for your daughter and help her steam out all the feelings she has. Help her make alliances with other kids in the school. let her choose to do sports or art she likes. teachers may take her side, but don’t imagine that they’ll do something, no mater how much you complain. I hope my response has some meaning for you

The excuse was the 3rd party API shenanigans on Reddit. The real reason occured, as I expanded my stay here, and realised that without Federated Social Media and Open Source Software, humanity will turn into a neo-feudal barbaric age of cruelty sooner than later

You have a point. At the same time, the silent generations kids, the boomers, lived through every technological breakthrough, on times of huge economic growth. Also they owned cheap house, had almost free tertiary education and a better labor market. Lastly they had access to banking dept and never woried about the environment. Now they are reaking all these benefits and while they fucked around for us to find out.

If you are referring to corporate “free” products such as email, cloud and media consumption, I use them until I’m able not to and switch to open source. ex. Gmail -> protonmail Google Drive, photos, contacts -> Next Cloud YouTube -> Jellyfin etc. If you’re referring to corporate Social Media, I just refrain from using them, except FB at the minimum due to contact with old relatives. For other Social Media consumption, I ditched Tweeter (or X or whatever) and Reddit, never used Instagram and TikTok. Switched to Federated SM like Lemmy (Duh!!!) and Mastodon.

TLDR. I value my data,but I draw the line in accordance with my ability to afford it

MrSilkworm ,
@MrSilkworm@lemmy.world avatar

jellyfin goes arrrrrr

MrSilkworm ,
@MrSilkworm@lemmy.world avatar

Our societies have a tendancy to be more authoritarian, autocratic and consumption driven. The way the corporations are using anyone’s data is not transparent and there is no accountability for it. There is also no monetary reward for the use of my data.

Therefore, I prefer to use open source apps and federated SM.

So to answer your question, I would like transparency and accountability about my data usage, as well as compensation. And no I would not like more ads. Since I realise that my preferences are impossible, I try to make the switch I referred above

Productivity has increased disproportialy to workers pay the last 40 years. Working less days and less hours is only fair considering that most of the benefits went to the employers side. 4 day/ 20 hour weeks should be the norm. And people should be able to work from home for as long as possible to avoid commuting and the barbaric micromanagement of the low/middle admins

MrSilkworm ,
@MrSilkworm@lemmy.world avatar

That depends only on the competition.

20 years ago I payed €65 for 4Mbps. Now I m paying €25 for 200Mbps + a landline with unlimited local calls + an android box (that I use for PLEX and retro gaming) that provides 50+ channels through an app.That was the last renewal.

I also switched my cell provider. I used to pay €42 for unlimited calls, SMS and Data. Now I pay €25 for the whole package.

Unfortunately, they fucked around for us to find out. I don’t feel bad if they find out a little bit too.
