Gnome has been the only stable DE I've used in the last 20 years.

Always loved the customization options of KDE and would love spending hours tinkering to get everything perfect. Now I'm old and don't have time for that bullshit anymore.

I just recently tried a few different DEs on an old Chromebook (i use Arch btw) and everything crashed after a few hours due to RAM limits, but Gnome kept chugging along on this piece of shit device and is now my daily driver.

And so we should turn our attention to REAL democratic reforms. Ranked choice voting. Ending the electoral college. Curtailing political gerrymandering. Converting our two-party duopololy system into an actual multi-party system.

Not to sound nihilistic or defeatist, but the odds of any of that federally passing within our lifetime has the same odds of Congress deleting the Second Amendment.

Maybe state governments can be swayed to add these amazing ideas, but good luck telling rural MAGA retards that is all actually in their best interest to add these concepts into local government.

I also have many gay and trans friends who live in opressive bleak conditions every single day and cannot trust law enforcement to fairly help them.

So someone got payed to wait for the phone to be shipped to them, took the effort to carefully and meticulously disassemble the phone, install the new battery by micro soldering the battery leads to the mainboard, then booted it to see it blew a shitty security fuse but can still boot fine, then took the time and effort to uninstall by removing the micro solder from the battery and mainboard without damaging the phone, just to tell them they can't do it?

My real worry with Google's voyage into enshittification (thanks to Cory Doctorow @pluralistic the term) is YouTube.

Through YT, for the past 15 years, the world has basically entrusted Google to be the custodian of pretty much our entire global video archive.

There's countless hours of archived footage — news reports, political speeches, historical events, documentaries, indie films, academic lectures, conference presentations, rare recordings, concert footage, obscure music — where the best or only copy is now held by Google through YouTube.

So what happens if maintaining that archival footage becomes unprofitable?

I don't cope, I go out of my way to *make it better: I volunteer my free time to hand out food at any of those food shelter events locally, I walk trails with a trash bag and collect trash, I care for my elderly neighbors by visiting them a few times a month without warning and insist they find me a job to help them around their house and refuse payments (but suggest I accept a piece of candy as compensation), I use my turn signals 100 meters before I make my turns when driving, I call my old friends who live abroad just to remind them I care about them if they aren't feeling good and they can always talk to me. Etc, etc.

Everyone should just ignore the eternal dumpster fires around them and try to make better as much as they can within their local vicinity.
