It’s definitely a work-in-progress title, but I have really enjoyed SuperTux Advance (AGPL-3.0 according to their github page). It’s like SuperTux but with sliding, more playable characters, and more power ups. As of now it’s probably my favorite OS game at the moment. -Ace

AceFuzzLord ,

I’d say it’s absolutely insane that someone might actually be able to take the creators of Elden Ring to court over the fact they’re not good enough to beat a game intentionally made to be hard. I imagine they’re the same people who would try and sue Sintendo over a Mrio Mker level that they can’t beat first try.

AceFuzzLord ,

Thanks for the heads up. This whole text formatting thing can be annoying.

AceFuzzLord ,

In other news, AI bros convince CEOs and investors that polls saying people don’t like AI are out of touch with reality and those people actually want more AI, as proven by an AI that only outputs what those same AI bros want.

Just waiting for that to pop up in the news some time soon.

Amazon forced to recall more than 400,000 products that could kill, electrocute people | Instead of recalling the products, Amazon sent messages to customers that "downplayed the severity" of hazards (arstechnica.com)

Amazon failed to adequately alert more than 300,000 customers to serious risks—including death and electrocution—that US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) testing found with more than 400,000 products that third parties sold on its platform....

AceFuzzLord ,

Only time I ever trust them is when it’s a verified shop from a highly reputable company like Seagate, but even then I don’t trust Amazon.

Worst thing about buying a budget phone, like I’ve done for my past 3 phones, is that phone stores never have good cases and the only place to find good (as in my phone won’t be destroyed when dropped, case isn’t slippery, and case won’t be destroyed in a week) is Amazon. So I’ve been essentially locked into buying cheap Chinese phone cases there because lack of options for anything that isn’t the newest flagship phone model.

AceFuzzLord ,

If I didn’t already have a case, I’d have to look into this more.

AceFuzzLord ,

Would not surprise me if these same people then try to legalize pedophilia if they win just so they can do everything in their power to legally fuck a fetus. I imagine that’s their ultimate goal in life.

AceFuzzLord ,

Can’t wait for a future where you ask a simple question about some major historical events like WWI and the AI decides to tell you how rainbow unicorns and frost trolls fought off Russia in the middle of a totally real and not fake at all Russian desert by having a bake off while Jesus brokedance to Hollaback Girl. /s

I hope one day if I ever end up in an HOA that I end up in one where the HOA members all live in it as well. I would take extra care to heavily salinate everyone’s yards. Full scorched Earth for everyone!

[Request] Retro Recommendations

I’m trying my best to dive back into the past and play all the gems that I missed as a kid because I was either born too late or too much of a kid to consider playing them. I found myself really disappointed going back to the old mario nes/snes titles because they felt really bad to play as I’ve become accustomed to modern...

AceFuzzLord ,

Don’t know if it’d be something worth while, but if you’re looking for a game to just pass the time, Devil Dice (or XI in Japan I think) for PSx. Trailer linked is highest quality I could find.

AceFuzzLord ,

I mostly play it for the single player mode, but I assume it’s a lot more fun with friends.

AceFuzzLord can’t wait for the use of all pronouns to be banned and English papers won’t be legally allowed to use basic words such as “I”, “Me”, “You”, etcetera. That’ll teach the libs!

AceFuzzLord ,

I consider myself lucky because I can’t recall ever getting any messages like that from either side. Closest I’ve come is mail for local candidates for non-presidential office.

If malls continue to shut down and decay over the next twenty years, someone should turn them into retirement communities for GenX and Millennials.

Imagine apartments built into what used to be department stores, (Oh, you’re JC Penny 203? I’m at Sears 106). Get those old arcades up and running. Set up meal stations at the food court. Once people actually live there, stores will start to move back in....

AceFuzzLord ,

If I could buy a large abandoned mall, I would absolutely love to turn it into an affordable community housing complex where shops can be set up alongside the housing units. There’s definitely more than enough space in any mall I’ve ever been to in America where you could easily renovate and turn stores into either single unit housing or maybe 2-3 units (big stores like JCPenney or Sears not included in this count because you could turn those into tens upon tens of units, assuming they’re as big as the ones at the mall near where I live).

AceFuzzLord ,

With just shows in general, I have a fair amount. Don’t know the exact amount of cartoons, but I got a 1TB external drive almost full of them, a single live actions show from the 90s, a single live action movie, a few animated films, and a whole comic set. As for games, I don’t count by size, nor do I know how many since they’re not stored on a drive. I specifically got a 2TB external drive (both drives Seagate) for if I ever find more shows/whatever I wanna collect, but I have yet to find something I desperately want.

That, and I still need to use it to back up files so I can switch operating systems on my desktop.

Edit:

No idea how much music I’ve downloaded from yt using things like NewPipe, but I got a good amount. I’d assume this counts as piracy too, since I’m certain the people in charge of the music industry don’t like you being able to do that.

AceFuzzLord ,

It’s a good day to be a metasearch engine user. No need to worry right now about one company essentially having a monopoly on indexing a certain site.

What are your favorite spooky (but not scary) retro games?

As I get older, I find I have no interest in playing the cutesy/silly games that are everywhere on retro consoles (obviously, they were targeted towards kids). But I also don’t have the patience for survival horror games like the resident evil or silent hill series. I’m just looking for a fun spooky game that I can jump into...

AceFuzzLord ,

Don’t know if this would count, but there’s the difficult game of Fester’s Quest on NES. Aliens invade, monsters (possibly aliens, I don’t remember) take over the town/sewers, and Fester of the Adam’s family has to stop them.

It’s been a while since I last played. Only knew it existed when one day mid-2010s my brother got it from either a pawn shop or thrift store. Definitely a game I sucked at and never got far in at all.

Could Microsoft destroy Linux gaming by using the windows store

So as we know Windows Platform Apps and WinUI3 apps do not work on Linux, I keep wondering if Microsoft were to launch a new API let’s say direct X 15 but limit it to Windows Store Apps, and provided a way for the apps to be installed from other stores like steam could they in time kill modern Linux gaming.

AceFuzzLord ,

They’d probably feel the wrath of the EU if they tried that, hopefully. Also, I doubt Steam under the current management would do that since it would shoot them in the foot because they’d be giving up and abandoning the popular enough Steam Deck at that point. I’m sure they’ve made more than enough money back from it to not want to shoot themselves in the foot.

AceFuzzLord ,

I don’t think Playstation is unlocked when it comes to 3rd party stores, but I do remember a whole thing about Apple having to allow side loading of apps onto iPhones over there, so if that actually came true you would technically not be locked into the app store since you could side load another one. Not quite the same as being totally free to choose an app store, but close enough.

GOP threatened to sue over November ballot if Biden dropped out. Experts call that 'ridiculous' (apnews.com)

Even before President Joe Biden’s long-speculated withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, allies of former President Donald Trump floated the possibility of suing to block Democrats from having anyone other than Biden on the ballot in November....

AceFuzzLord ,

Thankfully I’m in the clear where I live. Got some mail in ballets for a different election for everyone in my apartment. Just hoping that nobody tries to do like what was done last time and have republican mail people dump the mail in votes somewhere random. Luckily it wasn’t anywhere near my neck of the woods, but I’m always worried it’ll happen.

AceFuzzLord ,

From what a group I watch on yt have said, it seems like my gen and younger don’t even have a favorite Adam Sandler film. Pretty sure they’re millennials, so there’s pretty much no doubt they know their Adam Sandler films.

Don’t remember the video, but it kinda make me sad considering he’s more or less a campy film legend, minus a few less campy films like Click that I personally couldn’t consider quite campy and instead more on the line of family friendly horror.

AceFuzzLord ,

Hard agree. As someone who used to use a regular wired trackball but had to switch because laptop, I absolutely love it, despite it being a battery operated mouse.

AceFuzzLord ,

The problem I have with that, as a non-gogle search engine user is I just know at some point when everyone has started using it, gogle will just simply delete it off the face of the earth and pretend it never existed in an effort to force their AI. Wouldn’t be the first and certainly nowhere near the last time they killed something to benefit only them.

AceFuzzLord ,

Absolutely no way I’d shock myself in boredom willingly. I have way too much respect for myself… says the man who has on multiple occasions twisted a pencil multiple times in my hair to the point it starts to get the smallest pain reaction.

AceFuzzLord ,

Last I checked, I thought you could still purchase BTD6 without needing netfl*x through the play store. Has that changed?

Also, glory to glorious Arstotzka.

AceFuzzLord ,

If you have a rooted phone, an older android version, or the ability to access the android/data folder to move files around, I hear some pvz2 mods are pretty good. Only ones I can personally say are good are Refloureshed and Eclise, though it’s been a long time since I’ve played Eclise. Both are harder versions of vanilla.

AceFuzzLord ,

I found these through now defunct/gone bad sites, but Fei Ren Zai (非人哉) and All Saints Street (万圣街). Both series are animated adaptations of webcomics from the same guy.

Both have similar premises but are vastly different. Fei Ren Zai is a slice of life about mythological creatures, deities, and other such creatures from Chinese mythology living in modern day, done in short skits, pretty much being animated versions of the 4 panel comics the webcomic series is.

All Saints Street follows something similar, except for the fact that it’s western creatures (vampires, devils, angels, mummies, zombies, werewolves) living in modern times and doesn’t really have that 4 panel comic style Fei Ren Zai has. It follows a demon named Neil Bowman who moves from Hell (Australia if I remember correctly) to live with a vampire friend of his and ends up in the first few episodes (maybe around 10 or less if I’m not wrong?) living with a vampire, mummy, werewolf, and his landlord, an angel and eventually his younger sister. All under a single roof. It’s available on Crunchyroll with a Japanese dub, but I personally don’t like it. Especially since I really love the use of vocaloid for the original Chinese dub theme song and love the Chinese voices (props to the voice actors).

Also, France’s Code Lyoko is an absolute favorite of mine because of how awesome I thought it was growing up and how I still think it’s awesome. Mid-2000s cartoon where a group of 2D animated students at an academy must sneak off to go to a 3D CGI virtual world made possible by a radioactive material powered supercomputer that has a deadly computer virus like villainous thing housed inside the virtual world, trying to take out the kids so it can probably take over and get rid of all humans. If you don’t wanna be confused on episode 1, as you’re thrown in with no explanation, I recommend the episodes X.A.N.A. Awakens part 1 & 2.

AceFuzzLord ,

All the few shows/movies on my hard drive I end up watching when I get around to it and feel like watching. Though, recently, there have been 3 specific cartoons I’ve been watching a lot more of due to not feeling like watching other shows.

So far, the only things I have got that were bad quality and unwatchable were 2 cartoons. One you could easily tell it was upscaled and just looked a bit off, making it feel uncomfortable for me to watch and enjoy. The other, first episode in and they cut the theme song and had the channel watermark, for a show that’s a few decades, so I didn’t bother checking the other episodes and just deleted it. With the first show, I looked immediately because there was a specific episode I needed to check, but the other, it took me over a half a year to finally check to see how good quality it is/was.

AceFuzzLord ,

Pretty sure most people had some admiration for him. I, for one, admired the whole thing of him selling flamethrowers. Things change when you learn how much of a scumbag someone is.

AceFuzzLord , (edited )

Cannot say how truly dead it is, but judging on how I have yet to see any sane adult say almost anything good about Wish, I assume it’s nearly on deaths doorstep already. With all other 3D animated Rickey Rats original and not subsidiary company films you had adults that liked them but I have yet to find a single adult with no mental defects that likes/liked Wish.

If Wish is setting the standard for their 3D films, you can beat it’s on death’s door, if not far from it.

AceFuzzLord ,

Had something similar in 2020 happen. Things happened and it ended with him and my mom getting into a heated argument as to why he can’t get help from police or some other resources (which I can’t remember). Ended with my mom pretty much telling the guy not to return.

He played the part of a nice person, but in the end he was trouble. So I think my answer to this would probably be not to trust them.

Man plotted electrical substation attack to advance white supremacist views, prosecutors say (apnews.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — A New Jersey man who authorities say was on his way to Ukraine to join a volunteer fighting unit has been arrested in an alleged plot to attack a U.S. electrical substation to advance his white supremacist views, the Justice Department said Thursday....

AceFuzzLord ,

Nothing makes white people support racism quite like cutting them off from electricity for however long it would take to fix the damages. /s

What is it with racially charged hate groups and damaging things that affect the people they supposedly are fighting for? I wouldn’t be surprised if groups like white supremacists are more than willing to sacrifice white people in order to further their goal but are too pansy to sacrifice themselves. Sounds right up their wheelhouse, those neanderthals.

DVDs are dying right as streaming has made them appealing again (arstechnica.com)

It’s sensible for businesses to shift from physical media sales. Per CNBC’s calculations, DVD sales fell over 86 percent between 2008 and 2019. Research from the Motion Picture Association in 2021 found that physical media represented 8 percent of the home/mobile entertainment market in the US, falling behind digital (80...

AceFuzzLord ,

May not be the same type of stuff, but I’ve seen comple box sets of shows like Courage the Cowardly Dog, Edd Ed N Eddy, and a few other shows for roughly around $30 a set at my local Walmart. It’s absolutely beautiful to see physical media box sets at a reasonable price crushes streaming prices.

AceFuzzLord ,

Okay, regardless of what you think about the war going on in Israel, you at least gotta admit that this is fucked up. As if I needed another reason to never trust macrohard.

AceFuzzLord ,

I hope of I were to get a pre-paid card and use that on a Redbox before they close them down that I could get away with getting free DVDs/Blu-ray, assuming that there’s anything good in them and that nobody comes after me for that.

AceFuzzLord , (edited )

Give it a few years of us shoving this down their throat and they’ll be stockholm syndromed into loving it!

– Large Corporate CEOs, probably

AceFuzzLord ,

The last 3 phones I have had were/are budget phones. So less than $500, if not lower. Don’t remember what my last couple were, but my current is a roughly $200USD Samsung.

AceFuzzLord ,

If we’re talking about just what you watched before you recognized it was anime, it’s between pokemon, Naruto, and One Piece. Couldn’t tell you which I watched first.

If we’re talking “Oh! I recognize this is anime!” then probably either Deathnote or Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) thanks to mid-2010s Netflix (back when it was still good).

AceFuzzLord ,

None of the large creators, whether they’re corporate or not, would ever switch over to something like PeerTube without financial incentive. Even if they did, I guarantee they’d end up killing the decentralized nature of something like PeerTube by having the largest instance and then disallowing any form of federation to ensure you are forced to their instance.

“Gay Furry Hackers” Claim Credit for Hacking Heritage Foundation Over Project 2025 (theintercept.com)

SiegedSec, a collective of self-proclaimed “gay furry hackers,” has claimed credit for breaching online databases of the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank that spearheaded the rightwing Project 2025 playbook. On Wednesday, as part of string of hacks aimed at organizations that oppose trans rights, SiegedSec...

AceFuzzLord ,

This is really cool, but I would personally never call out I was part of a hack on anyone just in case they gain enough power to have me murdered. That, and the legal troubles that could follow. I can’t think of many things scarier than conservatives who cheat and don’t play by the rules coming after you legally because they will make sure you go bankrupt or worse.

AceFuzzLord ,

United Region States of Auber (or just Auber for short)

Named after a region for a pokemon fan game I wanna work on once I learn how to do what I want. The region in that world is split into 4 region states, which is how I’d split it in a real world equivalent. Three regions which act like states or provinces and the capital being its: own mini region.

What's the cheapest thing you had bought that by the end of its usefulness made you say "wow, this was worth a lot more than what I've paid for!"

Mine… My Xbox 360 slim only costed 129 euro back in 2012 and to this day still work like brand new, you would think that the disc drive would stop working but no. Never had the need of open it or clean it’s insides. Still great, I just don’t use it anymore since I feel it’s outdated and loading speeds are better...

AceFuzzLord , (edited )

The family xbox360 of my house was probably cheap enough. Haven’t played it in a while, but it’s definitely the greatest console to grace my life. Definitely the most played console throughout my life (PC/phone not included). I absolutely love it, especially since it’s where all my Hitman Blood Money/Absolution, Castle Crashers, Sonic Unleashed, and Borderlands 1 saves are trapped.

This also reminds me that I should probably find a way to back up my saves and account besides just a thumb drive because there’s currently no xbox online service available anymore and I have around 1.5+ decades worth of stuff on there I don’t wanna lose.

Edit: also a leather wallet I got from Walmart sometime around 2012-13. I don’t know how long a wallet should last, but I would never expect a wallet I buy today toast even a fraction of the time this has. George brand, says Italian Leather beneath the brand name, don’t believe it that it’s actually Italian leather because there’s no way a Walmart would ever have something that nice.

AceFuzzLord ,

I have been running through story mode on Dokopon Kingdom on PS2 and it’s chaotic fun. I have the CPUs on the easiest difficulty if I remember correctly and absolutely love bullying them whenever possible. First ever playthrough. I only started playing this because someone I watch online played the remake.

AceFuzzLord ,

Closest I can think of to infinitely replayable games are rougelike games like Slay the Spire, Peglin, Shotgun King: The Final Checkmate, Backpack Hero, etcetera, and sandbox games like minecraft (or Minetest if you don’t feel like spending money and/or don’t already have a minecraft account).

Though, with the rougelike games I mentioned, there are upper limits to increasing difficulty levels.

AceFuzzLord ,

Saw a video on that last night on Odysee from SomeOrdinaryGamer and it is 100% amazing how we are able to do stuff like that now, under the right conditions.

Game console emulation really is an amazing field. It’s always amazing to see such talented people picking away at such a monumental task as trying to emulate some beefy, hard to emulate consoles.

AceFuzzLord ,

I’m hoping this isn’t another case of fans taking a game and porting it to another console or doing massive upgrades/updates only to not release it to avoid copyright. I’d absolutely love to play this on my Dreamcast.

What is your preferred way of downloading youtube videos?

I’m looking to download a number of educational youtube videos for future reference. Looking for a reliable way to download videos. OS is Ubuntu. FF extensions and docker containers all good. I don’t really want to install an executable on bare metal unless it is a flatpak....

AceFuzzLord ,

I pretty much only do it on my phone, pretty much the only place I watch videos. So I just use either Newpipe or Pipepipe, a Newpipe fork.
