All gamepads that have it having a BAXY control scheme. That’s B right, A down, X left, Y up for the buttons on the right side of the gamepad. I can’t tell you how many times I have pressed the wrong buttons when playing certain games all because the 3rd party switch controller I have uses ABYX or because I don’t remember where the symbols are on a PlayStation controller. Dreamcast and original Xbox had their shit together with how they used BAXY for their controllers and to this day I may shit on Microsoft, but not on the BAXY control scheme on their gamepads.

AceFuzzLord ,

Purely preference. That, and I’ve spent about a million times more time on an xbox360 than just about any other console in existence, so it’s what I personally consider the best way. If you or someone you know uses any other way, that’s your deal, but I just can’t retrain myself to like any other format.

AceFuzzLord ,

I wouldn’t even buy that to burn it and send it back to the pits of hell from where it came.

AceFuzzLord ,

It’s not too old, released in 2017, but after over a year of being in my steam library I just installed Yooka-Laylee on my deck and got through the tutorial. So far it’s a really fun game.

AceFuzzLord ,

The majority of of people using it will most definitely take it lying down as they’re most likely not tech savvy enough to install a browser extension on a laptop if the only thing on the page was a large red install button.

AceFuzzLord ,

Get close enough to me in a very quiet area, specifically close to my heart, and you will hear ticking noises. Freaked out my older brother once because of that scenario. Mechanical heart valve.

AceFuzzLord ,

Couldn’t tell you why, but that looks like a screenshot from an Eastern European cartoon from either the 70s or 80s to me.

Adobe to update vague AI terms after users threaten to cancel subscriptions (arstechnica.com)

Adobe has promised to update its terms of service to make it “abundantly clear” that the company will “never” train generative AI on creators’ content after days of customer backlash, with some saying they would cancel Adobe subscriptions over its vague terms....

AceFuzzLord ,

I like to think the large corporations, specifically the social media giants, purposefully did everything in their power to water down the term through algorithm manipulation to ensure cancel culture or anything like it is ridiculed to the point that everyone becomes apathetic about it since it now applies to anyone/thing you don’t like.

AceFuzzLord ,

Not gonna lie, never seen the full movie(s) and probably never will at this point since it doesn’t interest me.

AceFuzzLord ,

IDK, probably go to the import store near my house and pick up some white rabbit milk candies to start. Then spend the rest on cheap snacks at the dollar store. However much it left, if it’s just change, probably throw downtown where I live because I can guarantee some homeless drug addict might scramble to pick it up.

A social app for creatives, Cara grew from 40k to 650k users in a week because artists are fed up with Meta’s AI policies | TechCrunch (techcrunch.com)

Artists have finally had enough with Meta’s predatory AI policies, but Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain. An artist-run, anti-AI social platform, Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users within the last week, catapulting it to the top of the App Store charts....

Biggest problems I have had with Mastodon are the fact that:

  1. The app I wanted to use didn’t even recognize the instance I signed up for and…
  2. I had to wait nearly a month and a half before being able to actuallyuse my account and access Mastodon because I joined an instance where they review people signing up or something similar.

I definitely see the appeal of a find the site, sign up, and you’re done services over the fediverse join an instance and pray service.

Damn, I wish my basically non-existent CSS skills were that good!

Just started the 3rd public release of Pokemon Vanguard. The almost all the regionals in the game look absolutely fantastic. Doesn’t follow the standard 8 gyms, fight evil team, defeat them, elite 4 pattern from most official and fan games I’ve played. In this one you end up going to some trainer school (vanguard academy), becoming a legal pokemon trainer in the region, and do assignments. So far I’ve only done one and it’s a pretty fun game.

It has 3 difficulty options, options for turning every battle to be a double battle (I assume this doesn’t work on wild pokemon but I have no clue), doing a monorun of every type that won’t let you catch anything other than the type you’re using, and a streamer mode that replaces music that could get you copyrighted. All before you begin the game. Also, I think you can find just about every starter from any of the games, with most of them being regionals with new types, like poison fire chimchar. Even has gen 9 pokemon, which I’m glad is becoming more common.

If you don’t mind having to occasionally refresh the page due to search engine timeout, a public Searxng metasearch engine. I use one just to straight up bypass having to go to any specific search engine. Also allows me to see results from both gøøg|e and b*ng without having to go to either.

Where do y'all recommend looking to find no-disc game patches in general?

Mostly asking because I’ve never used these before due to never needing to. That, and I have a few old disc based PC games that I’d love to be able to straight up boot without the game disc. These are games I could just pirate, but I figure I already own them in disc, so I’d rather see if there are any reputable places...

AceFuzzLord OP ,

There used to be a site I looked at a few years back that I don’t recall the name of, but it definitely felt a little sketchy. Same with the one file I downloaded. Set off Windows Defender real quick and that told me to stay away from that site.

Definitely gonna have to look in virtual disc emulating them. I have a virtual disc drive program on my desktop, so I could look into trying to make that work. That, or I’ll try and find the small disc image thing you brought up to save space while trying to make that vde thing work.

Thanks for the info.

AceFuzzLord OP ,

I’ll have to quickly check there to see if they have what I need. Thanks.

Edit:

This was a site I got a file that caused Windows Defender to go ballistics ony desktop a few years back. Couldn’t remember the name. Probably gonna find a patch and see what virustotal says.

AceFuzzLord OP ,

That’s good to know.

AceFuzzLord ,

My thoughts on this is that people, regardless of financial status, should just skip buying a PS5 and for a lower price just get a refurbished Steam Deck from Valve for cheaper. Also to straight up avoid buying PlayStation titles on PC in order to send a message that this toxic behavior is unacceptable.

AceFuzzLord ,

I have no idea what to do or how to even get started with Usenet, so I just use a VPN and torrent as needed.

AceFuzzLord ,

I personally don’t see a reason to torrent music when a simple download of a flac or something from yt if I can’t find it anywhere else is usually fine. But I will say I’m more likely to pirate music from large artists/companies because I don’t support large record companies and their shitty practices.

Similar thing goes for things like Vocaloid, UTAU/OPENUTAU, Synthesizer V, DeepVocal, etcetera, songs because the majority of the time the songs I’m listening to don’t have an official download (or a link to a removed file) or way to get it through supporting the person who made them.

Men with 'toxic masculinity' are more likely to make sexual advances without consent, study finds (phys.org)

A team of researchers, including Binghamton psychology professor Richard Mattson and graduate student Michael Shaw asked men between the ages of 18–25 to respond to hypothetical sexual hookup situations in which a woman responds passively to a sexual advance, meaning the woman does not express any overt verbal or behavioral...

AceFuzzLord ,

I didn’t think we needed a study to tell us to tell us toxic masculinity leads to bad behavior, but here we are. Especially since you can just go to tw*tter/ex and find these types of people by the bucket load.

The Indie Chat & Recommendation Thread (cdn.imgchest.com)

“Inspired” by the Square-Enix putting their foot in their mouth thread, I thought it’d be interesting to make a little thread about indie games. People always talk about wanting to try different, cheaper titles, but with how hard it is to get good gaming news and the state of advertisement/marketing, word of mouth tends to...

Warning! First three games feature anthro animals!

• Corn Kidz 64: if you like games that play like they were made for older consoles (n64 in this case) and directly ported to modern PC (requires controller and has no mouse and keyboard support). Currently $6.99USD on Steam. Long enough to leave me satisfied but short enough to make me want more.

• Brok the InvestiGator: describes itself as the very first punch and click, having a point and click mode and a character control mode. Has multiple endings depending on how you play and what you do. Currently $19.99USD on Steam and has for $4.99 and $3.99 respectively a soundtrack and artbook DLC. Base game includes unlockable fan art and official character sheets. Also has a demo that contains all of chapter 1 of the full game, so you can see if it’s a game for you.

• Amorous: NSFW furry dating sim visual novel game. Free to play. Can’t get a real date? Have fun trying to get into the pants of virtual people instead! Warning! Contains nudity and visible genitals! Currently $0.00USD on Steam. Must be logged in to look at Steam page, but no such requirement for the itchio page.

• Ardor: free to play deck builder. Hasn’t been updated much since launch, I’m pretty sure. Play as a hexagon fighting other hexagons on a board of hexagons. Last I checked it currently has attack cards, movement cards, and cards that allow you to infect enemies. After each round you get to use the in game currency to upgrade things like how far an attack can reach, damage, how far you can move, etcetera. All numbers can go up for the right price. Currently $0.00USD on Steam. Has a $5.99USD support the developer DLC that, as far as I’m aware, doesn’t actually do anything.

I have played all these games, so I can vouch for them in various ways. I also tried not going over $25USD before tax to be a little more accessible to people who don’t have a lot of extra funds for games and tried not to go super well known and popular (even though I’m pretty sure Markiplier did a video on Amorous if I remember correctly)

AceFuzzLord ,

It’s such a fun game, but I kinda dropped it after I accidentally glitched my game and got my story mode save wiped in an old update.

AceFuzzLord ,

That’s usually what I do every once in a while whenever I decide to play. The amount of cool strategies you can do is fun. Especially if you aren’t like me and refuse to learn how to play toad mage or animal companion person.

AceFuzzLord ,

I personally like playing the bird and robot the most.

AceFuzzLord ,

For a while, I’ve had problems with a patched yt app. Been going on for probably months at this point, but even with the latest ReVanced patches I still end up with, if lucky, video plays for 10 seconds before infinite loading. Makes me have to use the PipePipe (NewPipe fork) app more than I want, but at least I get ad free videos.

I’d use a privacy respecting frontend, but sometimes I like to comment and I have yet to find one that allows me to login and comment on videos.

AceFuzzLord ,

Closest I can say is installing EmuDeck on a microSD so I can emulate games on my deck. Don’t know how the process is for getting actual games outside of Steam (non-FOSS/native games outside the Discover store) working, but the process for EmuDeck is absolutely painless as you just run it, select a few things you want, and then it handles everything else.

AceFuzzLord ,

Unless it’s a setting I missed, same with Voyager.

Edit: I am as dumb as a bag of rocks. Couple comments down the chain and someone pointed out it’s a feature on Voyager.

AceFuzzLord ,

This is just out of the games I can recall off the top of my head and no order besides the first title being number one:

• Borderlands (specifically on xbox360 with all DLC)

• Fallout New Vegas (despite never actually beating it once)

• SuperTuxKart

• Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum Edition

• Sonic Mega Collection Plus (PS2 since I’ve never played it on original xbox and because I still think it’s a pretty good way to experience classic Sonic for those that don’t want things like savestates and those that do)

• Crazy Taxi (on Dreamcast)

• Hitman Blood Money/Absolution (purely for how much fun I manage to find in them regardless of their flaws and yes I’m counting them as a single game because I can’t say I like one more than the other)

• Spyro Reignited Trilogy (so far the only game remaster I can think of where I’d recommend it over the originals because fuck Year of the Dragon and the portals leading to the minigame like sections in levels causing the music to turn off if you get too close in the original)

• Pokemon Uranium (that one fangames that got banned but is still being updated/my first experience with pokemon fangames and ROM hacks)

• Portal 2 (both on xbox360 and PC because I beat co-op on 360 by myself once and also because level editor on PC and the one level I have saved that I cannot beat despite trying on and off for years)

AceFuzzLord ,

Whatever is at hand. Doesn’t matter to me whether it’s grape, strawberry, apple butter, etcetera. They normally all taste just fine when paired with peanut butter.

AceFuzzLord ,

Just looked it up to see exactly what it is and apparently it’s just applesauce that’s been cooked down for hours until it’s thick and spreadable.

I think there are still jars of the stuff from when my sister-in-law made some around the apartment I’m in. Pretty good with peanut butter, if I say so.

Don’t know what type of question you were asking, so this is the answer I’m giving.

ChatGPT Answers Programming Questions Incorrectly 52% of the Time: Study (gizmodo.com)

Google Search’s “udm=14” trick lets you kill AI search for good | Ars Technica (arstechnica.com)

Tack “&udm=14” on to the end of a normal search, and you’ll be booted into the clean 10 blue links interface. While Google might not let you set this as a default, if you have a way to automatically edit the Google search URL, you can create your own defaults.

AceFuzzLord ,

The problem is that they absolutely love to kill things. It’s a matter of when, not if, they’re gonna kill this within the next maybe year or so. I can’t see them keeping this long after all the AI backlash has quelled.

  1. Chest cut open for a 2nd time for open heart surgery. Currently on blood thinners because of the mechanical valve they placed in me. A damn growth on one heart valve came back around a half decade after the first time I had my chest cut open and pre-teen me thought the valve was the coolest thing for a short while.

Though, I’m pretty sure this is also the reason my memory sometimes feels off due to how I was under bypass for longer than the surgeons expected during surgery 2.

AceFuzzLord ,

Currently it’s definitely a tie between Bound For The Floor by Local H and My Own Worst Enemy from Lit because I’m hear for a good time in life.

Calling Florida the freest state in the country is like saying it’s safe to eat enriched uranium rods.

better security for the entire world

The moment Linux takes over as a dominant desktop/laptop OS we’ll start seeing a metric ton of the windows hackers follow suit to attack us. We’ll end up in a situation where they’ll probably go after some random kernel bugs that nobody else.has found yet or just don’t think are critical/exploitable. Or they’ll just attack the biggest, most widely used distros, going after people using them and any derivative distro similar enough for their malicious tools to work on it.

In general though, it would be a good thing for Linux to become a lot more prominent in the desktop/laptop market for general users. Especially since I imagine thanks to Linux being open source, people would be able to stop these malicious actors from doing damage much quicker (even though I imagine the majority of normal people switching over would almost never update because they’re used to forced updates and not having to do it themselves).

AceFuzzLord ,

I would definitely try it, but all the phones I’ve been looking at recently don’t have any support whatsoever for any of those types of custom OS’s. No Lineage, no anything. All because they’re not flagship models and are more budget friendly phones (and have what I’m looking for: headphone jack and SD slot).

AceFuzzLord ,

I personally love having extra storage that I can upgrade to whenever I want on a mobile device. Allows me to have things like all my music and text documents on a separate device so I don’t have to worry about most of my internal storage being taken up by these files (mostly music). Local music files are also pretty important to me because I don’t always like being connected to the Internet just to listen to my favorite songs.

Also, there isn’t a single online cloud storage solution that I know of that I trust. I’d set myself up my own, but I trust myself even less for things like that. Last thing I want is either me setting one up and getting my files deleted by random script kiddies finding a way in or for a pre-existing cloud storage provider to suddenly delete my files because they’re updating the service so people on lower tiers get less storage.

With headphones, I personally just love the ability to listen at any point without having to worry whether the headphones I’m using need charged. I personally don’t love the idea of getting a little dongle to connect to my phone just for plugging in wired headphones because that’s just another thing I could easily lose. Similar reason to why I hate short cords in general: easier for me to lose, as has happened plenty of times in the past.

AceFuzzLord ,

Don’t know if this type of thing counts, but I know that when either my brother or I was born one nurse wouldn’t let my mom see whichever one of us it was unless she could walk a certain distance that was a technically unsafe thing for her to do in her state. She did. Eventually a doctor did come by and told her that what the nurse did was totally wrong and unacceptable. Don’t remember the full story, but man moms can be such badasses.

AceFuzzLord ,

All jokes aside, after hearing that EOL is coming to Win10 this October, I have decided over the summer, before fall quarter is in and I’m back to start my 2nd year of college, that I would definitely be taking everything I need/want off of my desktop and switch to something like mint or MX because of how simple and user friendly they’ve been to me as someone who’s only been using Linux for maybe 2-3 years. Only things I would I need are dedicated time and personal drive to pull that off and a new external drive for storing all my files.

AceFuzzLord ,

I’ve got selective sight, I guess.

AceFuzzLord ,

As great as just playing the show is, I actually really like DVD/Blu-ray menus because of the little extras you get on some of them. It makes the disk feel more special compared to straight up video files on a storage device. The warnings can be a little annoying, but otherwise I don’t mind as much.

Also, I’m lucky enough to have yet to find a DVD/Blu-ray that stutters or has audio glitches on the Vizio Blu-ray player I got at a thrift store, so I’m lucky.

AceFuzzLord ,

I’d say one of the biggest things that kept people playing console games had to be the console exclusive games. If you wanted to play games like Ratchet & Clank, you’d need a PlayStation. But even that has changed, with the most recent release being available on Steam. Pretty much the only company holding out (Sintendo) is a company that no sane person should care about other than when it’s time to get angry about them.

AceFuzzLord ,

If it completely rewrites a book whose copyright is owned by a large corporation or publishing company in the US, they’ll probably take whatever company respond for it if it’s a public LLM behind the shed and shoot them to death with legal battles. So, I’m gonna assume yes.

AceFuzzLord ,

Under normal circumstances, the black random pill would be completely up my alley, but not today.

With the shoebox pill, depending on shoebox size, I would give myself 5,000 $100USD bills ($500,000 total). Never said a thing about not getting money in the process, just that it has to exist.

Also, the bottom right corner 5 months experience pill. Definitely 5 months experience in charisma based manipulation (in both text and vocal form if possible) so I could get slightly ahead of others in life. Gotta work smarter, not harder sometimes.

AceFuzzLord ,

At this point, we have some absolutely impressive Portal 2 mods that, in my opinion, definitely make up for not having Portal 3. We’ve got Tag (the paint gun mod), Thinking With Portals (a short one that gives you the ability to create a clone thing that copies recorded actions), and I’ve been playing through one I just found out about called Revolution that is pretty cool so far.

I personally like to think that the fans have done a good enough job at creating mods and maps that a Portal 3 would be redundant.
