When I swipe “don’t” in Gboard, at least 30% of the time it decides I mean “didn’t”. I just tested it, and the accuracy was shockingly bad. I’d understand if the strokes were very similar, but “didn’t” has a whole extra stroke in it compared to “don’t”. WTF, Google?
This reminds me of the time I went camping with my cousin, we picked a campsite that is about halfway for both of us and when we get there and setup this blue jay comes flying by and lands on our table and my cousin and his wife are going crazy, they do bird watching as a hobby and were stoked to see the blue jay.
I felt so odd because we have so many at our place to the point they lay eggs in our bushes and they wake us up with their calls and it’s weird to think that only a few hours away from the campsite where my cousin lives they don’t have any
LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — A plan to stage a coup against Bolivia’s president was not what Gen. Tomás Peña y Lillo was expecting when he entered the military headquarters in La Paz last Wednesday....
Expected to hear about how Elon, China, or Russia may have been involved to get cheap lithium…
But apparently it’s that this was a setup to generate support for the current admin. And yeah, shit kind of seems like that:
“If it was a coup, the presidency would have purged the armed forces,” said Col. Jorge Santiesteban, a Bolivian security expert. “The president rewarded the commander-in-chief who didn’t do anything about a major insurrection committed by his subordinate.”
It was also odd that the rebellion was led by Zúñiga, a loyalist who owes his position and high rank to President Arce.
Photos of Arce and Zúñiga shooting hoops together just days before June 26 splattered across social media. As rumors swirled about their close friendship, senior Cabinet member María Nela Prada went on Bolivian TV, unprompted, to say the two are not brothers-in-law.
“And so I come full circle on this response and just want to encourage you with some substance that we are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be,” he said.
They forget how many of us gun owning liberals there are. They think they can bully everyone around because they think they own all the guns thus the upper hand. They’re are far too dense to realize they’re entirely wrong. We just don’t make it our entire personality. I don’t feel the need to put my guns on display to prove to people I don’t even know what a MaNlY rUgGeD BaDaSs I am. That’s not why i own them. I very much enjoy the sport and technical knowledge and focus required to hit the target in different situations. I want to be perceived as a loving husband and a kind and honorable man and friend. Those two things are at odds. Or maybe I’m just not insecure about my masculinity.
I have a few daughters looking for science and engineering programs in the next few years. They’re all scared to attend schools in states hostile towards women. I get that. I’m looking for recommendations for schools in states positive towards women that have good STEM programs.
Doesn’t violate Rule 1 because it was published yesterday. It also talks about things that have happened in the past week. Why are you misrepresenting the article? When we found out that Alito flew flags 2 years ago, should we have deleted all of those articles because it was more than 30 days old? That’s an odd argument but it seems to be what you’re saying, since the article specifies some of these revelations are from the past week.
In terms of Rule 3, you haven’t identified any misinformation. Can you elaborate?
Rule 6 is mostly about off-topic content. If you can identify misinformation, this article might violate 6. But it’s not a meme or anything else referenced in that rule.
In a post to his social media site, Trump claimed, “I know nothing about Project 2025,” the name given to a playbook crafted by the Heritage Foundation to fill the executive branch with thousands of Trump loyalists and reorient its many agencies’ missions around conservative ideals....
Well nuts I was considering Ireland as a nice place to flee Canada for. Shame to hear that they’re doing the same to you. I know there’s a demographic issue but I don’t see why they couldn’t have made the countries livable enough that the people living there could afford to have children, instead of importing people en masse from regions with little education.
We are just creating another demographic problem anyways as at least here all of our migrants are suspiciously young working age men. We don’t see many families “fleeing regions in conflict” which seems very odd, doesn’t it.
The high court’s ruling is already having a ripple effect on cities across the country, which have been emboldened to take harsher measures to clear out homeless camps that have grown in the aftermath of the pandemic....
The street, which is obviously unsafe, noisy, completely not conducive to good sleep, and open to the elements
It seems to me that this is not something with which you’ve had personal experience. Yours is a reasonable speculation but it’s at odds with the reality for most people who have been homeless. I grant my own experience is limited to two shelters, but both were horrendous and I’ve never once heard a good word about any of them.
We terrorize the world with the threat of military and corporate alignment. We are dragging the world across the point of no return on climate change. We have fewer and fewer rights here while funding genocides. Kids get shot up at schools on the daily while police do nothing. Oddly those same police murder more and more black and brown people each year. Rents are skyrocketing. Healthcare is a goddamn joke. Groceries are ballooning in cost It is commonplace for people to work two or more jobs.
WTF is there to be prideful about at the State level?
[UK] I carry phone and keys. I pay for everything with my phone. Twerking on street corners as a Gen X for cash isn’t profitable anymore.
If I know I need ID, eg. Costco, I have my old fashioned wallet in my jacket pocket. I keep meaning to set up the Costco ID on my phone. Doesn’t happen.
The number of times I open or reach for my wallet is maybe twice a month. Frigging barber still wants to be paid in cash, and all the 20th century banks and their ATMs are closing … [so now they have 20th century tech and no way to interact efficiently with the public. Haha!].
I’m very increasingly anarchist as I get into my sixth decade - UK 2020s feels like 1970s again so screw the useless thieving politicians - so I should be actively pro-cash but I’m actually more pro-crypto pro-barter (especially pro barter) in the real world. Long ago l learned that if I have physical cash, I piss it up the wall, but I’m careful with credit card cash. No idea why. I never have more than £30 in notes on me; that’s enough money to buy a Costa coffee for you yanks.
Sadly, that means I can’t give cash to the odd homeless. Not too many homeless with contactless readers. Maybe that’ll be rabbit-in-headlights Kier’s big thing: contactless readers for the destitute veterans that the armed services and government abandoned (I came of age around Falkland conflict).
To attend the championship this year, fans must use a digital ticket provided through UEFA’s Ticket application. According to Heise, this app requires access to personal data, including name, email, phone number, and GPS permissions. While app store descriptions note the collection of personal information and activity data for...
The UEFA ticket app doesn’t even have location functions. They’re talking about the Euro 2024 app, which I also checked and it doesn’t take location data, and it doesn’t share data at all.
I don’t know if they changed it or if users were talking about another app.
Oddly enough when I searched for the apps in the store, another unrelated football app showed at the top and it did exactly what the article is claiming.
True but it’s also true that if Ukraine high command believes they have good odds at pushing Russia back and crippling Russia akin to what Afghans did to the USSR, then they will maintain the fight.
It seems self-evident that the victim shall decide what cards they want to play in this moment, and they’re resolved to fight. That’s nobody’s decision but theirs.
I’ll add that Ukraine has clearly shown what Intelligence and Technological Superiority can do to offset manpower advantages.
Define “the OS package manager”. If the distro comes with flatpack and dnf equally, and both are invoked by the generic “get updates” tooling, then both could count as “the” update manager. They both check all apps for updates.
Odd to advocate for docker containers, they always have the app provider also on the hook for all dependencies because they always are inherently bundled. If a library has a critical bug fix, then your docker like containers will be stuck without the fix until the app provider gets around to fixing it, and app providers are highly unreliable on docker hub. Besides, update discipline among docker/podman users is generally atrocious, and given the relatively tedious nature of following updates with that ecosystem, I am not surprised. Even best case, docker style uses more disk space and more memory than any other option, apart from VM.
With respect to never having to worry about bundled dependencies with rpm/deb, third party packages bundle or statically link all the time. If they don’t, then they sometimes overwrite the OS provided dependency with an incompatible one that breaks OS packages, if the dependency is obscure enough for them not to notice other usage.
Making the picture sharper makes it look much worse. A bit brighter, sure, but much worse looking. It’s rather odd that most devices like tbis are trying to replicate the CRT look on modern displays and this company is doing the exact opposite. Does someone actually want this?
When asking for advice about finding ND friendship groups, many people don’t realise they start with saying they asked their existing friendship group if they’d like to form a new interest-based group.
If this is you, please take a moment to realise how wonderful this sounds to someone like me who has literally never had this in my adult life. I’m not bitter / mad for people who say this - but I do hope you realise your friendship groups sound like literal, real life treasures to me. Most of the time I wonder if ND friendship groups are myths, but when you say this it reminds me they are real and exist… somewhere.
Ultimately, what I’m hearing is that we can do all the strategies possible to try to meet friends and form those groups, but many of you make it sound like you didn’t really have to try. It’s like you naturally found a group, maybe ‘right place, right time’, etc. And that really does make sense.
I’ve been leading a fake NT life, making choices that NTs would make (due to being later identified ND). I now wonder if I give off vibes that are not NT enough and not ND enough to truly mix with anyone. I would much rather be true to myself: fully ND. But unmasking after four decades of heavy masking… so much of it is unconscious. Until then, I just don’t seem to fit anywhere. (I won’t give up - this is simply a statement.)
Feeling a LOT of self blame for being so isolated. Maybe it’s a natural process for later identified ND?
@AnAutieAtUni@actuallyautistic This worries her. Oddly it doesn't worry me quite so much. I'm hoping this isn't going to happen for quite some time. I'm approaching retirement anyway so post retirement I won't have any requirement to be "socially conscious" at work as I won't need to go to work.
I'll probably fill my days on whatever social media platform exists in 20 to 30 years time and potter around in my shed.
my only concern is a morbid technical one. what happens then if I die?
That is an interesting question. From what I know, youtube has every video in chunks that they serve to the client, and so server side ad injection is just serving some ad chunks before the video. I think you’re right with the buffer thing, it seems to me like the only way to make sure the client can’t skip it would be to make the buffer shorter, impacting some people (although seems like only really people with internet thats fast enough for streaming some seconds, but not other seconds, which is an odd catagory)
Ultimately it would be a tradeoff for youtube, but the fact that they put the effort into doing mass testing of the idea at all shows that clearly there are some good incentives, and it may eventually be implemented.
Right and that should be the target of our efforts. Not fighting over scientific research they’ve already decided to reject. Encourage them to think more critically. You can only encourage someone when you have their ear. You only have someone’s ear when they’re comfortable around you. Demeaning someone’s intelligence and telling them their world view is a toxic lie, is a quick way to convince them they’ll only ever be at odds with you.

Okay, source it if you’ve got it, because the idea that a single study ran out of funding at 25 and that’s where the number comes from is such an odd suggestion, as though no one else has studied the brain’s development and neuroscientists everywhere just shrugged and thought, “if only the funding were there.”
Here’s a well-sourced article that concludes the brain continues to develop well into the mid-20’s.
While the brain will always continue to develop and grow, due to neuroplasticity, the concern is whether or not the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for long-term decision making, is properly developed. This development continues into the mid-20’s and is well-documented.
Here’s a 2022 study where they looked at over 100,000 brain scans from people 110 days old to over 100 years old used to draw and affirm similar conclusions.
While 25 isn’t magic number, as everyone’s brains develop on different timelines, it is a rational and reasonable landmark that can be reliably used for broad discussions.
I get it, Biden is old and that’s a problem, but why doesn’t anyone seem to have a problem with the fact that Trump is almost the same age, has 34 felonies, raped at least 2 women, went to Epstein’s Island 11 times, sexualized his own daughter, stole classified documents, aligned himself with Xi and Putin, and can’t...
Democrats want Biden to drop out because they don’t believe he can beat Trump.
To this point: for those who think that, do they think anyone else realistically could, at this point, other than Biden?
While I’m not thrilled with his chances, I will say that if he wasn’t to be the nominee, that decision needed to happen in 2021. At this point, I do believe that statistically, he’s got better odds than anyone else, so regardless of his debate or mental state, he’s our guy.
