Guys we should eat the rich

stephfinitely ,

Guy, don’t start fighting what is actually an issue. Keep playing into the fake war we made for you.

MystikIncarnate ,

Ironically, the entire premise of this article is steeped in a class war. It’s the rich trying to keep us focused on fighting eachother, rather than realizing that they’re fucking all of us in the ass.

caboose2006 ,

war war

ChonkyOwlbear ,

“Some of you have come to believe that I like war. I wish to dash these rumors. I do not like war.

I LOVE war.

Through my life, I have discovered so many forms of war. You get up in the morning, you get into your shitty car, and you see a rich CEO who works half as hard as you do drive down the street in his Porsche. Class war.

You make it to work, and you find out that the annual drug test is today. And you just so happened to take a puff of your one-hitter a couple nights ago before dinner with your wife’s awful parents. Drug war.

But then, you find out that the only ones being called in for testing are your black and Hispanic co-workers. Race war.

Then, you try to post about it on your Facebook, but then all your friends start arguing about what’s right und what’s wrong. Flame war.

You finally get home, and you decide to relax by watching a program about: “Who gets the box?” “What’s in the box?” “How much is what’s in the box worth?” Storage Wars.

chuckle What I am telling you, my Nazi army of 1,000 vampires, is that I am a purveyor of war. And with your help over the years, we are now at the precipice of our true goal.

You see, I want a simple war. No class wars, no drug wars, no race wars, no flame wars… Und certainly, no Cold Wars! (Blueballed for 40 years.)

What I want is a war that only we can bring. A true war! A German war! The sequel you’ve all been waiting for! I! WANT! WORLD! WAR!! THREE!!!”

Why does she look exactly like someone who would argue for this.

Guntrigger ,

She’s decended from nobel prize winners and married to a decendent of a baronet. It’s very much a “please don’t guillotine me” opinion piece.

Omgboom ,

The culture war has always been a distraction so we don’t start a class war.

boredtortoise ,

The class war has been ongoing but only the ruling class is waging it.

Buddahriffic ,

The ruling class exists because of its exploitation of the other classes. It always was a class war.

For context for others, he said this to point a spotlight on the issue.

www.nytimes.com/2006/11/26/…/26every.html

AngryCommieKender , (edited )

He later disowned one of his granddaughters because she got interviewed by another rich kid that was making a documentary exposing how they talk about poor people behind closed doors. It’s available on YouTube, but I forgot the name. The producer of the documentary went back and interviewed her again, after WB disowned her.

He may have said he was putting a spotlight on the issue for PR. He was actually bragging, and shoving it in our face, given what he did to his granddaughter who actually did try to shine a spotlight on the issue.

Found it! It’s called The One Percent, by Jaime Johnson.

What is Biden doing in Yemen right now? A “special military operation”?

AngryCommieKender ,

Teaching The Houthis the number one rule of the US.

Don’t. Touch. Our. Boats/Ships.

Also we can’t declare war on a rebel group, we’d have to get Congress to declare war on Yemen, and their government hasn’t pissed us off

Linkerbaan ,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Lesson #1 should be no Genocide. Kinda forgot about that huh

Of course if you don’t recognize the government of a country it magically doesn’t count. Just like how Russia doesn’t recognize Ukraine.

Special military operation it is.

AngryCommieKender ,

I agree about Rule #1, but Woodrow Wilson didn’t, and Wilsonian Doctrine is still the military policy. Still can’t believe that people could have voted for Teddy and they voted for Taft or Wilson…

The Houthis aren’t Yemen’s government, and we are recognizing that by not declaring war on Yemen.

Linkerbaan ,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

We are pretending not to be at war with Yemen so Biden doesn’t have to ask congress for permission for his illegal war.

AngryCommieKender ,

We are not at war with Yemen. The Yemeni government doesn’t condone, fund, support, or control the Houthis. That’s Iran. We legally cannot declare war on something other than another country, and the Houthis don’t count as a country.

Linkerbaan ,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

You sound like a Russian saying they are not at war with Ukraine because they do not recognize the Ukrainian government.

The Houthi’s practically control the country making them the Yemeni government. What America recognizes as the government is not relevant.

This is literally the “special military operation” logic the Russians used for Ukraine.

Thanks, I was interested in reading the article to get what she was arguing for. Especially the start of the article is interesting but at the end she seems to be calling against “division” and not “punishing” the rich because that’d alianete some of their voters. Wah wah.

jittery3291 ,

Class war has been on since 1979.

duderium2 ,

Class struggle begins with the Neolithic Revolution, but capitalism started in 16th century England.

jittery3291 ,

Good points. I was referring to Thatcher and the start of the neoliberal policies which led to 2008 crash and then the austerity which led from it.

As for the neolithic revolution thing. Have you read The Dawn of Everything? That book disputes quite forcefully the idea that agriculture led to class structures etc. They state that this idea is outdated and has since been disproven by archeological findings. Some ancient agrarian societies were tyrannical, others were not. In the same way some forager groups were heirachical and even had slaves and some were far more egalitarian. It’s an excellent book.

I found it powerful as it presents the idea that we choose how we live to a large extent. It’s not determined by our mode of food production/technology alone (and therefore may not be doomed).

duderium2 ,

I like Graeber but his sources (Michael Hudson) are better, and books like Man Makes Himself are also much more interesting.

jittery3291 ,

Yes, reading Superimperialism at the moment. It’s good. DoE was co-written so feels different to bullshit jobs (only other thing if his I’ve read). I think it’s an important book.
