I'm not entirely sure how hashtags render in Lemmy, but I added that one because I think fundamentally it's what the picture is about: Freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, press freedom, freedom from arbitrary violence.
Of course it's a case of freedom being infringed upon, but I nevertheless think it's a central thematic.
NEW YORK - The city’s major police unions forcefully endorsed Donald Trump’s failed bid for re-election.
"In the New York City PBA, Mr. President you earn the endorsement and you’ve earned this endorsement,” said Patrick Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association.
"I’m proud to give it,” he said in August.
But, Joe Biden won decisively in the city, putting the police unions and the officers they represent on the opposite side of the political fence from the majority of New Yorkers they serve.
Trump Picks Up Police Support Even As He Glorifies Those Who Assaulted Police On Jan. 6
Michael Fanone, a former metro police officer who on Jan. 6 was attacked with a stun gun by a Trump follower until he suffered a heart attack, said the reason is as simple as it is disturbing: “Lots of officers are ideologically aligned with the people who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6,” he said. “I get more threatening phone calls from people who identify as police officers than anyone else. We’ve been dismissed and vilified by even our police union.”
If I borrowed your car and put sugar in the gas tank before giving it back, is it my fault or yours when the car shits itself to death while you’re driving it?
Are you dense? It’s the conservatives putting all these things in place to begin with, then blocking all attempts to change it, and then blaming everyone else, and convincing their base to parrot it for them, exactly like you are doing.
Stop listening to news and their propaganda for a few minutes and go look up their voting history. Don’t listen to their lies, look at their actions.
And for the Democrats, they are not nearly as bad because they aren’t 100% fascist like the GOP, but they sure as hell aren’t doing enough to stop it all, because SURPRISE! They are also right wing.
If anyone wants some actual better things in this country it’s long past time kicking all the right-wing and extreme-right-wing corrupt assholes out and get some ACTUAL progressive people in power so the average person can have some nice things for a change.
Now imagine this image came out of Russia, it would be plastered on the covers of all magazines as the western world would stroke its ego dick around this image. But I guess it’s not coming out of Russia now, so it’s irrelevant. (Not that I support Russia lol, fuck their fascist regime too)
Would it? Was it plastered all over magazines when they were arresting people for holding signs that say things like ” I will be arrested for this sign”
When the war with Ukraine started, people in Russia went to protest it. Thousands were arrested on day one. No one remembers that now and it wasn’t reported much in the West.
Are you sure? Because I clearly remember the whole internet and Western media joking how Russia will collapse in 24 hours instead of reporting what was actually going on. And then people shitting on Russians for not doing anything to stop the war.
There’s a bunch of videos on Twitter/X showing how they pushed her into that position, turned her around, and hauled her off before cuffing her and detaining her. She was thankfully released later, but this is just far too much. All of it is.
Not even. One police officer decides your sus while you’re armed and that’s it. They’re allowed to execute you on the spot. That’s not a right, that’s a privilege with a death sentence for anyone who mistakes themselves as part of the privileged class.
Yes but 80% of the time they cite their belief someone had a gun. To the point that once a gun is found at the scene everyone tunes out. (Other made up offenses include having a knife and having nothing but walking toward them)
Which brings us back to the point of a gun being an excuse to execute you on the spot. Which also means you don’t actually have a 2nd amendment right. Rights that you only technically have, aren’t actually extant.
It’s okay though, we don’t actually have any of the rights from Amendments 1-8. So it’s not unusual for the second amendment to only technically exist either.
And the companies who sell the corn syrup foods are free to use all that money to influence politicians. Um… I mean…pay lobbyists, or become a super PAC or something that’s technically not corruption.
Not related at all. How can I disable gifs in comment sections. It’s super distracting for me and I would love to not have anything animated at all when I’m reading.
Those are “de-escalation devices”. First, you beat them with thing 1. If that doesn’t calm them down, you stun them with thing 2. If they are still not calm, you shoot them with thing 3. Repeat until America great again.
I studied all that stuff because I briefly wanted to be a cop while my brain was still forming. That all went away once I started hanging out and talking with cops.
You seem like the kind of person who keeps a tub of butter nearby at all times, unable to control themselves whenever you’re reminded that the opposite sex exists.
Except if you have guns then we will be pussies of highest order.
THAT’S how the 2nd amendment and much else of the Constitution was intended to be used, I feel. Y’know, before the people lost their damn minds for various reasons, and maybe they understood the importance of backing each other to keep the power-hungry at bay.
But now we’ve stood aside as we got things like State-defined rules for having proper unobtrusive protests, and unions that must be “authorized” and promise not to get in the way too much, binding arbitration without a right to a jury trial, and police shove and beat journalists while a loud chunk of the population says “He must’ve had a good reason! What’d you do?”
Your monthly reminder here that forced arbitration is unconstitutional under the plain text of the 7th Amendment.
In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.
Wow, that’s an awesome reminder! TIL. Thank you kindly!
It was in my head because recently I had to send like 4 “Oh no you don’t” emails to like 4 or 5 companies that tried to pull that with a little ToS edit. It seems to be all the rage these days. :(
If you don’t vote for Joe Biden, that cop will get even angrier, even grosser, and even more violent.
Just imagine looking at this picture under President Donald Trump. Imagine knowing that its all your fault. That’s why you need to vote. Then it’ll be someone else’s fault.
That’s such a ridiculous promotion. We’ll definitely beat you, yes, but they’ll probably beat you even harder, so vote for us, you already used to our beating. That’s domestical violence in a nutshell. And people even upvote you wtf.
Some Americans say several of those things. Millions of other Americans also say different things. Millions of us are better than that fascist bullshit, and we are not going anywhere.
Nah, there are not enough cops in the USA to arrest us all. The ratio of population to police is overwhelmingly vast. For every 1000 Americans there are only 2 or 3 police.
I’m not one for conspiracies or whatever, but I do worry about escalation. I’m not worried too much about the cops themselves, most of them are just bullies and not that bright. I’m worried about who the government sends when the cops can’t contain a situation.
It will be PMC, and they will execute us. All republicans and conservatives will cheer.
It hit me like a truck back in 2020 how Trump could hire goons to execute my young children in front of me, or even do it himself, and everyone who voted for him would cheer it. That is who Trump voters are at their core.
