VinnyDaCat ,

Well, well, well if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions.

VinnyDaCat ,

Just be skeptical about it from both perspectives.

Bad actors do exist but they’re not to blame for everything despite almost any organization or movement these days attempting to scapegoat any poor publicity they experience as bad actors.

VinnyDaCat ,

Unfortunately this is possible.

I think it’s for the better that companies are having these blunders though. It’ll generate some amount of pushback and keep AI from taking over workplaces.

VinnyDaCat ,

Its literally the lowest form of entertainment and its not worth a single moment of ad watching.

I’m just curious, but what type of content would you be watching on YouTube?

I think the platform has come a long ways when it comes to content. Sure, if you’re just watching gaming content I’d say you’d be disappointed. It’s been like that for a decade now at least. There’s a lot of decent content on there though with a lot of it even being somewhat educational.

VinnyDaCat ,

I see. I simply ask because the platform has changed a lot if you used it a little over a decade ago and I know some people who never got over the transition.

Absolutely understandable that you don’t want to spend time looking for anything that might catch your interest though.

If this was law, and companies had to divulge how there stuff worked and was assembled, as well as sell parts, things would last longer.

I’m all for it but I think you’re being a bit too optimistic. If we had the right to repair then the prices of repair kits and materials is going to go up most likely. I can think of a few other ways they can make that system obnoxious too.

It’s like everything else. Yeah, the general systems in place could be greatly improved but ultimately the majority of the issues lie with the people at the top who refuse to let us have good things. No matter what laws are passed they will find a way to profit at any cost. The shareholders behind massive corporations are the first priority because no solution we create will work as efficiently as it can unless they are out of the picture.

VinnyDaCat ,

Going into any passionate community and dissenting for the purpose of dissenting is outright flamebait and nothing more.

VinnyDaCat ,

You mean hope that they too don’t become subject to enshittification? I don’t have a lot of faith in that.

Besides that, Google is controlling as fuck. They might keep fucking themselves over but there’s no way they won’t start attempting to ruin things for the rest of us.

VinnyDaCat , (edited )

They could have potentially run DeSantis, he just lacked the party’s backing. While he’s basically a younger, less orangey Trump for the most part, the fact that he’s a lot younger would have probably won a lot of people over. It wouldn’t change the GOP from being the MAGA party or change their current values or the general situation with the election though.

We should be grateful that Trump is rather incompetent. He’s torn up the GOP as he can’t allow anyone to overtake him in the hierarchy he’s created. His own ego ensures that any competent ideas that could push his agenda forward are thrown out.

VinnyDaCat ,

Can we not act like this?

If someone is misinformed then you educate and correct them, not mock them. Especially when the person in question is clearly open minded and willing to learn.

VinnyDaCat ,

Reddit could always be aggressive, and if you search up the OP it looks like they went into a passionate community and stirred it up.

They didn’t deserve this level of vitriol or the lack of elucidation though. That’s definitely gotten worse over time. Part of why I left was how aggressively immature it had become, to the point where you couldn’t have normal conversations there anymore.

Louisiana: Has one of the largest shortages of teachers across the country

Also Louisiana: Let’s potentially alienate teachers in our state

Conservatives just don’t think, do they?

VinnyDaCat ,

ACAB but I don’t agree with vigilantism.

Even if you could get away with it, it’s only a matter of time before some vigilante decides that they too like the cops are the law and starts abusing people.

VinnyDaCat ,

Nothing surprising.

EVs have been developed since the 90s at least as far as I know, and progress on them has been sabotaged at nearly every turn by the industry.

VinnyDaCat ,

Wasn’t aware of that. My thoughts were more towards the EV1, although I assume there were many others before that.

VinnyDaCat ,

It was worse than what the picture shows.

There’s a bunch of videos on Twitter/X showing how they pushed her into that position, turned her around, and hauled her off before cuffing her and detaining her. She was thankfully released later, but this is just far too much. All of it is.

VinnyDaCat ,

Wish more people understood this.

Even if he was locked up for a lengthy period of time, he can campaign from jail. There is precedent for this. He has to be locked up under specific circumstances to stop his campaign.

VinnyDaCat ,

The irony of men not understanding why women would choose the bear is insane.

Last I checked men killed other men just as much. Ask yourself the same question, and empathize a little bit.

VinnyDaCat , (edited )

Would have been nice if more of the women in mmorpgs I played growing up were like that. Too many guilds were torn apart intentionally by women who damn well knew what they were doing and knew that at least one of your staff members was easy to twist around their fingers.

Edit: For anyone seething, women are people and they deserve respect like anyone else, but they are also people, and some of them are assholes.

VinnyDaCat ,

Everyone involved is at fault yeah. Don’t know what you want me to say.

VinnyDaCat ,

This is an online forum. You can’t tell me not to respond or not to discuss something. Doing so isn’t misogynism. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the community this is posted in is not a women’s exclusive space either.

You want to see misogynism? Go hunt down the guys who treat women like objects in the OP. I don’t know what you want from me.

VinnyDaCat ,

Knowing my luck they would both turn on me if I was in that situation.

I do appreciate how there’s more women in online games now though. FFXIV has a lot of women, and it’s great because I don’t have to be that guy anymore and deal with identity politics if someone acts out. There will probably be another woman in the group who is equally annoyed by whatever bad behavior is going on and call it out.

VinnyDaCat ,

Pure hype.

Plus big tech companies are scared to lose out to each other, so they’ll buy into it even as a known risk.

VinnyDaCat ,

Fuck that. Eat the rich, eat the rich!

VinnyDaCat ,

More over we need to make it easier to remove both federal and state judges from their positions if necessary. As it stands now removing judge for any form of misbehavior is far too difficult.

VinnyDaCat ,

Republicans doing typical Republican things to no one’s benefit.

That said, I don’t think aid in the form of sending more arms over is right. The proper humanitarian course of action would have been to send a coalition of troops over to Ukraine to forcefully shut the situation down. So many lives would have been saved had we done this earlier.

Instead we have chosen to let the war drag on by sending weapons and supplies, letting both Ukrainians and Russians(many of which who aren’t there by choice) slaughter each other.

VinnyDaCat ,

It’s possible yes, but you also have to consider that perhaps Russia might not have ever invaded if we had shown that we were willing to fight.

A large part of the invasion was the fact that they knew they could get away with it. They know that we’re just going to watch on the sidelines, providing some support from time to time. The people scared of a World War seem to forget that World War II started while the major powers at the time allowed Poland to be conquered before doing anything.

VinnyDaCat ,

Are we not in a proxy war with Russia already by providing Ukraine with aid?

If Russia truly refuses to back down when the other major superpower of the world getting directly involved, then that says much more about the future of our world.

You’re right that we’ve done a great deal of damage to Russia. We’ve decimated their birthrate for generations I imagine, but that came at the cost of Ukrainian blood. If we can take preventative measures then we should take them whenever possible, and even if it causes a major war it will possibly prevent more in the future.

VinnyDaCat , (edited )

Can’t tell if you’re being ingenuine intentionally or just misunderstanding.

This is far from a middle path. This is the path of aggressively standing between Russia and Ukraine. No where did I ever say that I blame Ukraine for fighting back either. They’re doing what is necessary, but the fighting shouldn’t have ever been necessary if other countries from around the world were willing to put their troops down and tell Russia no.

As for Putin and the nukes, I really don’t get it. It’s always going to be this way with Russia. Are you just going to let them take more and more? If Russia invades the rest of Europe are they just not going to fight back because Putin has the capacity to nuke them? At some point there will be a confrontation between Russia and other countries from the world. How much are people going to be willing to give up out of fear that nuclear weapons will be used?

VinnyDaCat ,

It’ll happen eventually surely? You can’t keep standing down from them. They will continue to take more and more if you do. At some point you will have to tell Russia no much more firmly and risk a confrontation or nuclear war. It’s inevitable.

VinnyDaCat ,

Could be Québécois . They put the dollar sign after the number, rather than before if I recall.

VinnyDaCat ,

Older Gen Z are, but not all of them are at that point yet. It’s easier to make blanket statements regarding Millennials since you still have half of Gen Z in their teen years.

VinnyDaCat ,

Not what I’m pointing out. The youngest Millennials are almost all 30. You still have Gen Z that are 12 if I’m not mistaken.

VinnyDaCat ,

Her parents are incredibly wealthy.

It’s a complaint many have with her. She comes from the same class of people that are responsible for most of the problems of the world. It’s genuinely off-putting but there’s really not that many choices out there for people with this amount of influence and money who are willing to take up this fight.

VinnyDaCat ,

More like when you Google and half the solutions you find contradict themselves, with some of the responses to the solutions discussing the dangers.

VinnyDaCat ,

He’s doing more than he really can, but I also feel this is his way of communicating that he is in fact trying. SCOTUS and the Department of Education has both said it is not within his power, and whether or not I agree, the SCOTUS will likely continue to prevent him from pushing this through.

Realistically our government should be doing much more in aiding people through higher education, but at this point it’s like threading a needle.

VinnyDaCat ,

YouTube already does this in a less invasive way. “Here’s this random video on theory crafting how we can put life on Mars that we just thought you might like.”

VinnyDaCat ,

Majority of the wealthy higher ups in corporate management don’t care about reducing emissions. They care about making their companies look good.

Talking about working towards climate change goals or talking about supporting marginalized groups is easy. Actually doing something is a lot different, but even today very few people look for actions.

VinnyDaCat ,

It’s not entirely true though. It is a lot of work. It doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done, but often times unless you can incentivize it then they won’t.

Even then, many companies find ways around it, such as dealing with carbon credits, which basically allow them to continue harming the environment for a cost, because apparently it’s still cheaper that way.

VinnyDaCat ,

You know what’s baffling to me?

She was poor at some point. She lived in poverty off of government welfare. Chances are there are a good amount of children who grew up with her works that transitioned later on. They are part of the same fanbase that lifted her from poverty.

How can you genuinely turn out that unsympathetic for your fellow human beings like that?

Billionaires who once disavowed Trump are coming crawling back (which might have something to do with Biden vowing to raise their taxes) (www.vanityfair.com)

Once upon a time, some überwealthy individuals who’d previously supported Donald Trump declared that they were done with the 45th president of the United States. After January 6, 2021, billionaire GOP donor Nelson Peltz called the insurrection a “stain on America” and publicly apologized for voting for Trump in 2020. Real...

VinnyDaCat ,

His administration really needs better PR in general.

They’ve accomplished quite a bit but they don’t publicize it enough. They also need to quit making those silly ads like the one that was up on socials during the Super Bowl. Show us the clips of the man at work. It would work absolute wonders.

‘IRL Fakes:’ Where People Pay for AI-Generated Porn of Normal People (www.404media.co)

A Telegram user who advertises their services on Twitter will create an AI-generated pornographic image of anyone in the world for as little as $10 if users send them pictures of that person. Like many other Telegram communities and users producing nonconsensual AI-generated sexual images, this user creates fake nude images of...

VinnyDaCat ,

I was really hoping that with the onset of AI people would be more skeptical of content they see online.

This was one of the reasons. I don’t think there’s anything we can do to prevent people from acting like this, but what we can do as a society is adjust to it so that it’s not as harmful. I’m still hoping that the eventual onset of it becoming easily accessible and useable will help people to look at all content much more closely.

VinnyDaCat ,

Which is fairly common in the animal kingdom. The reproductive organs of many animals are designed around this, with the females having vaginas mean to prevent it, and the males having penises meant to specifically copulate with those unique vaginas, often times having spines to give their specific offspring better odds or trigger ovulation despite the pain it causes.

VinnyDaCat ,

Something tells me that didn’t work out as nature planned considering the amount of dudes who would be immediately grossed out at that prospect.

VinnyDaCat ,

Not entirely surprised.

The numbers were already up there, but I imagine YouTube’s recent campaign only drove them higher. More people than before are now aware that adblockers exist and they love using them.

VinnyDaCat ,

This. It sounds great, but realistically companies will just control the supply of repair materials and scalp us that way instead.

Teacher who resigned after her OnlyFans page was discovered says new employer fired her for violating social media policy (www.kbtx.com)

Had to supplement her $42,000 per year teacher salary with OF and made nearly $1 million in six months (almost 50 times as her salary) before the school caught wind of it and forced her to resign. Got a new job out of education and was fired five days later when they discovered news articles about her....

VinnyDaCat , (edited )

Honestly, I’m all for privacy and your employer not doing this, but this is a strange situation. If I recall, on another post I saw she essentially made her OF very public as if she wanted someone to find out.

Again, I support our teachers being paid enough to survive, and employers not invading your privacy and acting on your private life, but in this case she definitely stirred the situation up herself.

Edit: For anyone confused, let me put it this way. This woman brings up an important issue, but I can’t sympathize with her specifically. She’s making an insane amount money, and she was privileged to be in a position where she could abuse the news/media for even more exposure. There are absolutely teachers out there in her situation who don’t have that advantage, who need both their regular job and their OnlyFans, and they likely lose what little sleep they’re getting in fear of being found out and losing one of their sources of income.

Further edit: Discussed this with someone else for a bit, and I didn’t think of it, but if this blows up further, conservative parents are going to see this. You are going to have conservative parents up at schools, you’re going to have them in PTAs and other meetings, and they’re going to be demanding more privacy invasion in the form of increased background checks on teachers and other school staff. Schools are already struggling with staffing, and you’re going to potentially have people lose their jobs over it. Yeah, this lady is an asinine grifter for all of this.

VinnyDaCat ,

It’s not that simple. You can push back against them yes, but ultimately they exist in this world with us. You act like they’re not going to push back or fight and that it’s some sort of easy win.

It’s ultimately easier to work around them and avoid fights when necessary.
