And if their judge was appointed Trump, such as Aileen Cannon?

FrostyTheDoo ,

I said “such as”, because Trump appointed a lot more judges than just her. She’s presiding over one of his current cases and is doing everything she can to help Trump. It’s more than possible that could happen on future cases against Trump’s rivals.

So, money the company was never going to make anyway then, got it.

And they rely on selling both to be profitable. But now their customers are used to not buying the latter (random crap) so that they can afford the former. And the retailers are realizing they may not begin buying random crap again even when prices decrease, because life without the random crap isn’t much different.

IRS makes free tax return program permanent and is asking all states to join in 2025 (apnews.com)

The IRS said Thursday it will make permanent the free electronic tax return filing system that it experimented with this year and is asking all 50 states and the District of Columbia to help taxpayers file their returns through the program in 2025....

Can’t wait for the governor of my state to vilify this as socialism and block it for her constituents because it might benefit even a single poor person.

FrostyTheDoo ,

Bingo!

FrostyTheDoo ,

I’m realizing I should have actually named and shamed her directly now, but I’m glad (and sad) that it wasn’t too difficult to figure it out.

Kim Reynolds is a bright red boil on the cancerous tumor that is the Iowa Republican party.

How could this knock Cannon off the bench? I haven’t heard anything about that yet but if it’s a realistic possibility that’s a sweet ass cherry on top

I see one such comment, which is in response to Iran blaming the US, and to me reads as a sarcastic retort to a ridiculous claim by Iran

FrostyTheDoo ,

Let’s assume Norway has 5 million people and the US has 300 million people, and they’re going to have a taco eating contest.

If every American eats 1 taco, that’s ~300 million tacos eaten. If every Norwegian eats 30 tacos, that’s “only” 150 million tacos eaten (30 x 5mil = 150mil).

If we’re talking about total tacos eaten, Norway “loses” the eating competition. But that’s not really fair because the US has 60x more people participating.

If we’re talking about tacos per person (aka normalizing for the population), Norway wins the competition because each person ate 30x more tacos than the average American.

So, which country eats more tacos? The answer depends if you’re counting total number of tacos eaten, or average number of tacos eaten per person (aka per capita).

FrostyTheDoo ,

Did you read their whole comment? They addressed that and pointed it out several times themselves.

FrostyTheDoo ,

that’s what the gun is for, the bullets can outrun anyone, even an unarmed child

I was a long time subscriber as well, but canceled right before Christmas 2022. I missed it for about a week and then I realized most things I “needed immediately” from Amazon I could either 1) drive across town to purchase from brick and mortar or 2) actually just wait for it.

The end result has been me buying less things I don’t need, and buying the things I do need from local retailers (and of course big box stores), or ordering them from other online retailers since the shipping is comparable to Amazon.

2 years in and I don’t miss it at all, will never go back. I do want to watch the Fallout series though.

You’re forgetting one important thing - Bezos needs more money! Line must go up. Always. At any cost.

Then the jury will be targeted instead of the judge, so he’d prefer that.

Old people have a suicide death grip on this country and they would rather die and be buried under the rubble of their own hubris than let the people that have an actual stake in the future change anything.

The graduation ceremony isn’t your reward for your work. At least, it shouldn’t be. Your reward for graduating is the opportunities that you’ve opened for yourself for the next chapter of your life. I didn’t go to mine and I haven’t regretted it for a second. The knowledge didn’t leave my brain, at least not as a result of missing graduation.

You guys get to make fun of the imperial system, and healthcare, and fahrenheit, and gun crime. Let us have one thing.

They cannot arrest or kill the entire working class, pitchforks or not. I mean, they could, but then who would work for them and make them richer? They need us and it’s going to be a very painful reminder when we remind them, one way or another.

FrostyTheDoo ,

If it’s all stuff he really does in real life, how could he sue over it? If it’s factual, you can’t sue. Well you could but you’d lose because South Parks lawyers would say “show me what we said that wasn’t true”

If it’s its fictional and they clearly state at the beginning of the episode that it’s fictional and you should not assume it’s true, it’s going to be really hard to convince a judge that they were trying to trick people into thinking something was true in order to harm you.

The first amendment allows you to make fun of people, especially if you say “we’re just being silly and none of this is serious” beforehand

FrostyTheDoo ,

To be fair, that fella likely committed a heinous crime such as believing that the earth was not the center of the solar system, or speaking to a wealthy person

FrostyTheDoo ,

That’s a great question, I hope you’re asking because you actually want to know!

These books have been banned mostly in school districts across the U.S. Below is a list of several school districts that have banned genderqueer books over the last few years. All of the ones below have banned All Boys Aren’t Blue, as well as many of the others mentioned in OP:

  • The Frisco Independent School District in TX
  • Shawnee Heights Unified School District in KS
  • North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District in NJ
  • Flagler Palm Coast High School in FL
  • Alta High School in The Canyons

If you need more examples, a quick Google search for “which places have banned [book title]” will give you lots of results! Alternatively, here is the URL I was referencing for my short list.

FrostyTheDoo ,

Have you tried reading the whole article instead of only the headline? That usually helps to glean some context and form an informed opinion instead of just guessing. That’s what works for me, at least.

Here’s the relevant bit, but I really do recommend reading the whole thing!

According to the transgender participation policy, which goes into effect in August, all athletes may participate in NAIA-sponsored male sports but only athletes whose biological sex assigned at birth is female and have not begun hormone therapy will be allowed to participate in women’s sports.

A student who has begun hormone therapy may participate in activities such as workouts, practices and team activities, but not in intercollegiate competition.

“All but banned” is certainly a subjective phrase, but reading the article I’d have to agree. What do you think?

FrostyTheDoo ,

1947: It’s not fair that they want to add black people to white baseball leagues, what if they’re better than the white players! Why don’t all the people in support of black people just host their own sporting events? This is totally unfair.

2024: it’s not fair that they want to add trans women to cis women’s sports leagues. What if they’re better than the cis female players! Why don’t all the people in support of trans people just host their own events?

2124: it’s not fair that they want to add [insert minority social group with limited population, power, and resources] to [thing majority group cares about keeping control of]. What if they [improve the overall product or system]? Why don’t all the people that support [minority group] make a special [thing] just for them?

It’s important to consider that this is not the first time society freaked out about who was allowed to pay in which sports league. It turned out fine last time, better, in fact.

FrostyTheDoo ,

You’re being incredibly pedantic. The context of the interview is they are talking to an NCAA Women’s Basketball coach. Deductive reasoning could tell you they’re likely talking about NCAA sports, and that her answer would be related to the competitions she is a part of. This is controversial because many people do not want trans women to play in the NCAA women’s leagues.

I hope that helps clear it up for you.

FrostyTheDoo ,

I’m not talking about the specific words the reporter used, that’s the pedantry I was talking about. The reporter was asking her if trans women should be allowed to participate, and she said yes, which is a controversial statement. Since you apparently didn’t read the article, here’s the actual quote from the article where the coach clarified exactly what her point was. Not sure how that’s disingenuous.

Zaksheske pressed further: “Do you think transgender women should be able to participate?” to which Staley responded affirmatively, “In college? That’s [the] question you want to ask, so I’ll give you that. Yes. Yes.”

Hopefully that helps clear it up for you?

FrostyTheDoo , (edited )

If your point is that the reporter literally said one word instead of another, then no I won’t argue about that. That would be a waste of time to comment on, I’ll leave that to you since it seems to be the only takeaway you got from the article.

For people that read above an elementary level, my point makes sense, because it’s about the actual subject of the article (what the coach said). If my point doesn’t make sense to you that’s okay, reading comprehension can be difficult, but if you can’t understand what I’m saying then you should probably stop trying to argue with me about it.

Also, I’m not the same person that originally replied to you. That person is the one that said the reporter said trans athletes shouldn’t compete. I came in later to point out that you were focusing on entirely the wrong thing. It makes a lot of sense that you don’t understand the article when you can’t even understand who you’re replying to.

FrostyTheDoo , (edited )

You said the interviewer said trans people can’t compete in sports.

Lol no I didn’t. Please link to the comment where my username said that? I’ll wait.

In the meantime, I’ll link you to Buffalox’s comment, because they are the one that said it. Here you go.

The funniest thing is that I explained this to you in my last comment, and you have again displayed your lack of reading comprehension skills.

Let me slow it down for you dude: you’re arguing with the wrong person about the wrong thing. We are having 2 different conversations because you literally cannot read or think critically. I feel sad for people that try to communicate with you in real life.

FrostyTheDoo ,

Thank you for your recognition of my plight. I don’t know why I do these things to myself

FrostyTheDoo ,

Does saying this make you feel like a good person? Because it doesn’t make you sound like one.

FrostyTheDoo ,

Yep that slid right off the front page in a few hours

FrostyTheDoo ,

Sorry to hear that. Can I interest you in some Taylor Swift gossip or the latest news story about what Elon pooped out of his mouth this morning?

Where are the good political songs? (piped.video)

I feel like there are lots of parallels between the eighties and now (recession/inflation, yuppies/inequality, skin-heads/fascists, hot-cold wars etc.) but there used to be protest music! Where is that stuff now? Music that’s intelligent and outraged - like we should be!...

FrostyTheDoo ,

Lately it seems like many Taylor Swift fans would slit someone’s throat for the opportunity to look at a pan that she might have touched one time

Tesla driver who killed 2 people while using autopilot must pay $23,000 in restitution without having to serve any jail time (fortune.com)

Tesla driver who killed 2 people while using autopilot must pay $23,000 in restitution without having to serve any jail time::The case is believed to be the first time that U.S. prosecutors have brought felony charges against a motorist who was using a partially automated driving system.

Solely? No. But if the airbag, seatbelt, or self-driving autopilot feature that they created contributed to someone’s death, they are partially responsible and should face consequences or punishments. Especially if they market it as a safe feature.

Derek Chauvin is released from the hospital and is back in prison after being stabbed by inmate (www.nbcnews.com)

Chauvin, who was convicted in the 2020 murder of George Floyd, was allegedly stabbed with an “improvised knife” Nov. 24 while in the law library at Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona, by inmate John Turscak, 52, according to a criminal complaint.

FrostyTheDoo ,

He kneeled on an innocent man’s neck until the man died, and now he’s in prison where guilty, dangerous people go.

FrostyTheDoo ,

One of these things is not like the other

FrostyTheDoo ,

I think you’d be surprised how many people live in cities and have medical expenses. This dude doesn’t even have kids.

FrostyTheDoo ,

Yeah, my job went remote in 2020 and this year I moved out of the city and just bought my first house in my home state where the cost of living is almost 1/2 of my former city. I could’ve would’ve never bought a place where I was before. I’m sure someone would have loaned me the money but that felt like a death sentence for my small amount of disposable income.

I make $150k and learned to manage a very strict budget living in the city. Now I have some disposable income and my own house with a yard.

FrostyTheDoo ,

I think a good term for what you defined in your edit might be “intrusive thoughts”

FrostyTheDoo ,

May I ask what expertise you have on this that makes you know more than doctors and psychologists who use the term intrusive thoughts, and specifically use that term to diagnose people with mental illness or neuro-divergence? Or are you just pontificating to feel smarter than everyone else? We don’t need a new word for something everyone (except you) clearly already understands and uses properly.

FrostyTheDoo ,

Steve Jobs is the exception. I’m just trying to answer the original question about why this happens so often. I’m not trying to argue about the best way to run a company. But if you’re equating every founder with Steve Jobs then we’re having a completely different conversation.
